Other important information: -- The monument was built when it was common to use salty coral stones. The walls still hold sea salt and pushes it out through the painted walls. This is visible in places and unfortunately cannot be solved. It adds character to the monument. We regularly repaint the walls. -- All rooms are connected to eachother. To reach the living / kitchen from the second bedroom furthest away, you can choose to walk through the first bedroom. If you do not want to disturb the people in the first bedroom, walk outside through the bathroom door along the terrace to the front part to the living / kitchen. -- Supermarket is at 100 m. walking in Broad Street (Breedestraat) and has a good variety.

Sylvia was amazing, the apartment was amazing, the neighborhood and location were amazing! Cozy, comfortable, and convenient is the best way to describe this place. We walked only a few mins to see Carnival and the beautiful Otrabanda area and walk over the Emma bridge to Punda. A short drive to amazing beaches. If you’re staying in Curaçao, this is the right place. We can’t wait to come back and see all of the amazing trees Sylvia is planting on the street!

Our paradise stay
My friend and I really enjoyed this VRBO. It was a good location, clean and had mostly everything we needed to stay comfortably. It is also right up the street from our new favorite local bar in town, Netto Bar. Highly recommend going and trying their local green rum!The only concerns we can across was only having one key for the 2 of us. This became an issue with being in separate rooms and being able to leave from the second exit to not disturb my friend, however you need a key to get out of the house. Also it in between 2 bars that tend to have loud music playing through most of the night. Also lots of barking dogs close by. We recommend ear plugs or white noise. Lastly, the WIFI on the house does not reach the back room. Only the front room and first hedroom.
I am a former resident and repeat visitor to Curacao. Loved the location and spaciousness of this historic free-standing house. I felt very safe as a single female and yet it is so close to all the action downtown in Punda and Otrabanda. The owners who live in the adjacent property happened to be on island during my visit - much to my advantage. Sylvia is a lovely person and host and artist. I visited during an Art Atelier and got to see her exhibition. Her communication was instantaneous, friendly and gracious. She even came next door late at night to help me when I couldn't figure out the washing machine (my bad). The patio is spacious and I enjoyed eating some meals out there. It is a very short walk to Kura Hulanda museum (old) and village (new) and you will see colorful murals on your way. The shower has on-demand hot water (not always a given on the island) and there is an airco in the bedroom. There is a small parking area right across the street which is also super convenient. Bed was very comfy and there re multiple closets to store all your things. I highly recommend and would definitely book again.

About the host
Hosted by Lex Veerkamp
Sylvia and Lex live in the monumental house on the premises. The B&B is a separate building next to the house. We respect your privacy. And we like you to feel good during your stay, so we will take care of all kinds of questions and necessities that you may have. We were born and raised here, love the island and love to share common tourist information and also its well kept secrets with you. We also live in the Netherlands in a monument with B&B! Lex has worked as a mathematics teacher and is a movie lover and a writer of film related books. Sylvia is an artist. She paints and has her art gallery in the front part of the main house.
Why they chose this property
We love monuments and love to be around the beauty of the historic area. We fell in love with the architecture and yellow color of the house, bought it and had it renovated in 2021. It had so much to offer for us, like space! All on one floor, so no stairs. We love the wooden shutter doors and windows, floor tiles, space to have an art gallery, a large outside area, and on the side a perfect large stand-alone apartment, all in the center of lively and colorful Otrobanda and close to the blue Caribbean Sea.
What makes this property unique
The people in this vicinity are beautiful. We often go for walks to enjoy this neighbourhood, the alleys, the mural paintings that liven up the area and relax and have a drink while watching the ships enter or leave the Anna Bay through the swinging pontoon bridge. Why Otrobanda and our B&B are a good choice? In Otrobanda you find all kinds of people living together, poor and rich. The main shopping street, Breedestraat (Broad street) has the cheaper shops for buying clothes and all kinds of daily necessities. The supermarket has a good variety. Otrobanda is famous for its Nettobar where the Dutch king Willem-Alexander and queen Maxima came to have a drink. You can walk through the alley ways to the sea, to the Riffort and the famous pontoon bridge. The mural paintings on many of the buildings can fill you with a sense of awe. In the neighbourhood you find restaurants with local food too. Visit Maira's kitchen around the corner for breakfast. Also try the Bario Urban Streetfood if you like good food in a nice atmosphere. Walk accross the bridge to the Handelskade and with a drink and some food enjoy the unique view of the bridge that opens to let in small or huge boats. So here you are, a choice for everybody within close vicinity of your bed and breakfast.
