Need a vacation, a place to relax and to get away from it all? Welcome. Walk into 'The Cottage' and feel your shoulders ease as you unwind into your own fully equipped beach home. Just two blocks to the local’s favorite Blacks Beach, at the secluded end of Twin Lakes near the Harbor. A perfect place for playing in the sand, swimming, light surfing, boogie boarding, reading, sunset strolls and fresh ocean air. At Blacks Beach your pup is allowed on leash and bonfires are permitted in the fire pits provided.
The Cottage is a perfect affordable home for a couple or small family, with all the amenities you will need for a memorable Santa Cruz adventure. The living room is especially inviting with comfortable furnishings and ambient lighting. A separate dining room easily accommodates 4 people and the adjacent kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals. The bedroom has a very comfortable (based on past reviews) queen bed with a skylight overhead. There is a sleeping nook off of the bedroom with a day bed which is an inviting spot to curl up with your favorite book and perfect for kids. We have also added a daybed covered in comfy pillows for reading or sleeping in the living room.
Beautifully landscaped gardens and lawn make for a pleasing view from the dining room and kitchen. Fully fenced backyard with gas grill is a great place to enjoy outside meals. Speaking of meals, you can purchase all your ingredients at the farmers market two short blocks away every Sunday. Should you want a night off from cooking, no problem! There are several wonderful restaurants within walking distance. All sound good? Just what you hoped for in a vacation home and location? We look forward to seeing you.
HISTORY: The Cottage was built in the 1920’s, one of the first homes in the area. Before the neighborhood built up, there were expansive fields of flowers surrounding the Cottage and a lovely path winding down to the ocean. In the 1950's the Cottage was occupied by a family who built their dream house next door, which has since been named the Green House and remodeled into a unique vacation rental which accommodates eight.
LOCATION: The Cottage is located near Twin Lakes Beach and the Yacht Harbor, midway between Capitola and downtown Santa Cruz (both 10 minutes away). There are six fabulous restaurants within walking distance, ranging from a Hawaiian grille to a high-end Italian restaurant, and our personal favorite, Southwest-inspired Nuevo Grill. A short stroll down the beach will bring you to the yacht harbor where you will find the popular Palomar Mexican restaurant and the Crow's Nest. The Crow's Nest is a great place on Wednesday to watch the sailboat races or enjoy the sunset, a glass of wine and a bite to eat. Great appetizers! Also within walking distance is a corner food store, liquor store, deli, coffee house, video store and a farmers market on Sunday

•BEDROOM: The bedroom has a queen size bed, with an adjoining sleeping nook with a day bed and an additional twin size bed will be found in the living room.. Reading lights, extra blankets and extra pillows are provided. A fold-out futon is stored under the day bed for your use.
•BATHROOM: The bathtub is deep and long with a hand-held shower. Bath towels, hand towels, wash clothes and soap are provided.
•FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN: Four-burner gas stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender for your fresh fruit smoothies! All cookware, dinnerware, utensils and linens to set a beautiful table are provided.
•AMENITIES: Cable TV with DVD player in the living room, high speed wireless internet, laundry facilities (washer, dryer, laundry soap, iron, ironing board), fully fenced backyard with gas grill, beach chairs, sand toys, cooler, fully equipped kitchen, high quality linens and towels, board games, books and very important here in Santa Cruz, off street parking for one vehicle and a street permit for another.

My favorite vacation spot, this is the second year staying at the Cottage…it is relaxing, convenient, the best place to unwind. Everytime I stay, I don’t want to leave, the Cottage if wonderful for one person or a family with small children.My lab enjoyed it as well, the backyard is private and allows your pet to go outside..the owners have put their magical touch, and I can’t wait to return.
We love staying at The Cottage. This is our second time staying here and won’t be our last. The eclectic neighborhood, proximity to the beach, and coziness of the house all make for a wonderful stay. Kim is communicative and warm as is her house manager Nancy. All I can say is enjoy!
We had a weekend getaway to The Cottage with our two dogs and we LOVED staying here! The location was about 2-3 blocks away from the beach, away from lots of tourist traffic, and felt very homey to us and our dogs. It was hard to leave because we loved it so much :)
The Cottage is charming, clean and conveniently located to the beach. It had everything we needed.I took off one star because of the traffic that passes in front of the house. Many cars and foot traffic pass by the house. I wasn't expecting that.
My wife and I and two twenty-somethings stayed here for a week in June. It was perfect for us and had everything we needed. Owner also personally manages and is very easygoing and very attentive. We would definitely come again!

This tiny cottage was perfect for our family and our pups. Fenced back yard with BBQ. Short walk to the beach. Washer/dryer. Comfortable beds. Sunny front porch. Amazing!
We loved our stay here! Perfect location, 2 blocks from the beach. The cottage is clean, cute, comfortable and charming. Everything you need is here. The owner had local coffee, dog treats, and sparkling Martinelli’s out on the table for us. It was such a sweet and personal touch! It was perfect, thank you!
We enjoyed our stay. Great, easy walk to Twin Lakes Beach. We were in town for graduation and had dogs in tow. They loved the walks to the beach. Situated with easy access to all things SC. While the kitchen is small it is well stocked. Morning coffee on the porch. Great little beach house. Enjoyed the well stocked cottage, from BBQ to playing Apples to Apples.
The location of the property was excellent. Property manager was easy to contact and addressed issues right away. The property is a bit run down with several repairs needed, a list was sent to the owner and property manager. Upon arrival, at check in time, a repair worker was blocking the driveway, and left once the property manager contacted him. A large wrench was left in the driveway, which would have been an issue when parking if I had not seen it. The water was turned off to the house, which was an issue. After getting permission from the property manager, my partner, a retired plumber, located the main water value and turned the water back on. The owner did send a msg and apologized for the issues when checking in, which was appreciated. Upon checking out, my partner and I thoroughly cleaned the house and ensured the yard was cleaned as well. If people are looking to rent a rustic beach cottage, this is the place to stay!

A perfect cottage, thoughtfully appointed
We really enjoyed this cottage and all of the thoughtful amenities. You could literally bake a cake or roll out a pie crust in the exceptionally well-equipped kitchen! For our beach days, coolers, towels, umbrella, chairs and a wagon were all provided. So helpful to not have to bring this stuff down with us!
The cottage location is wonderful - just a short walk to a very nice beach where our little dog was allowed, too.
The grill and the table and chairs were of good quality and I suggest the addition of an outdoor light over the grill for we were often grilling in the dark by the light of our little flashlight. We also appreciated the plantings in the front of the house which enhanced the loveliness of the front porch and small lawn.
There is a really nice farmers market on Sunday two blocks from the cottage and bags for shopping there are also provided!
The owner, Kim, was very responsive, friendly and generous - with coffee, fresh-cut flowers and dog treats awaiting us upon arrival.
It would be our pleasure to stay here again in the future.

Thank you for your very nice review. I am so glad you had a nice beach vacation. I appreciate your comment about the outdoor BBQ light. That would definitely make grilling at night easier. Consider it done. It will be installed by next season. Hope you come back to enjoy the house and beach followed by dinner on the grill (without your flashlight) :-).
This is an outstanding residence in Santa Cruz and we loved staying there. My wife and I stayed there for her birthday weekend.
The residence is very clean and is exactly like the pictures on the website. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need. When we arrived, the owner had put out for us a bottle of Martinelli's Sparkling Cider and a fresh bag of Santa Cruz Coffee.
The living room is nicely laid out and the king size bed is incredibly comfortable. The bathroom is clean and there was plenty of hot water for a shower. There was even a small second bed if you had a guest. We sat out on the front porch in very comfortable chairs in the sun and it was so nice. There is also a barbeque in the back along with a table and chairs.
One of the best points is the location. We were able to easily walk to the beach, Starbucks, restaurants, the grocery store and the yacht harbor. Once we arrived there, we rarely drove anywhere. We brought our bikes and rode all around Santa Cruz. It is a great central location.
Finally, the owner (Kim) and the property manager (Nancy) are incredibly nice and easy to work with. We had questions on a couple items and we texted Nancy on a Saturday and she immediately got back to us with answers. They are great people with whom to work.
We loved our stay there and we highly recommend this residence to anyone that is considering it. We would love to stay there again.

The Cottage was very clean and well set up. The back yard was perfect for my small dog and there was parking off the street, which was great since the street was always full of parked cars. Near to beaches, Sunday Farmers Market and some very good restaurants. It was a wonderful stay.
From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable. This cottage has a warmth and authenticity to it, almost like coming to visit family. The cottage is thoughtfully equipped with everything you need and is in fantastic proximity to everything you want to see in Santa Cruz. Walking distance to beach. Wonderful hosts, excellent communication and personal touches. Highly recommend!
This property was great. Short walk to beach and farmers market. Close to downtown Capitola and easy off and on to hwy 1. I would definitely rent this lovely cottage again.

I have been lucky to live in Santa Cruz most of my life. I grew up in the Santa Cruz mountains and moved into town in 8th grade. After leaving the area for college and travel, I found myself back here. It seems for many, Santa Cruz is a difficult place to leave. I purchased the Green House and Cottage in 1994 from the original owner and builder of the main house (Green House). Soon after, I met my partner, michael, we created our 'dog family ' (now four) and last year we gave birth to our baby girl Emelia. Converting the Green House and Cottage into vacation rentals is our solution to me being able to 'take Emelia to work', rather than go to daycare. She is a wonderful 'helper' and I feel very lucky to be able to spend time with her while offering others the opportunity to enjoy the property.
