Need a vacation, a place to relax and to get away from it all? Welcome. Walk into 'The Cottage' and feel your shoulders ease as you unwind into your own fully equipped beach home. Just two blocks to the local’s favorite Blacks Beach, at the secluded end of Twin Lakes near the Harbor. A perfect place for playing in the sand, swimming, light surfing, boogie boarding, reading, sunset strolls and fresh ocean air. At Blacks Beach your pup is allowed on leash and bonfires are permitted in the fire pits provided.
The Cottage is a perfect affordable home for a couple or small family, with all the amenities you will need for a memorable Santa Cruz adventure. The living room is especially inviting with comfortable furnishings and ambient lighting. A separate dining room easily accommodates 4 people and the adjacent kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals. The bedroom has a very comfortable (based on past reviews) queen bed with a skylight overhead. There is a sleeping nook off of the bedroom with a day bed which is an inviting spot to curl up with your favorite book and perfect for kids. We have also added a daybed covered in comfy pillows for reading or sleeping in the living room.
Beautifully landscaped gardens and lawn make for a pleasing view from the dining room and kitchen. Fully fenced backyard with gas grill is a great place to enjoy outside meals. Speaking of meals, you can purchase all your ingredients at the farmers market two short blocks away every Sunday. Should you want a night off from cooking, no problem! There are several wonderful restaurants within walking distance. All sound good? Just what you hoped for in a vacation home and location? We look forward to seeing you.
HISTORY: The Cottage was built in the 1920’s, one of the first homes in the area. Before the neighborhood built up, there were expansive fields of flowers surrounding the Cottage and a lovely path winding down to the ocean. In the 1950's the Cottage was occupied by a family who built their dream house next door, which has since been named the Green House and remodeled into a unique vacation rental which accommodates eight.
LOCATION: The Cottage is located near Twin Lakes Beach and the Yacht Harbor, midway between Capitola and downtown Santa Cruz (both 10 minutes away). There are six fabulous restaurants within walking distance, ranging from a Hawaiian grille to a high-end Italian restaurant, and our personal favorite, Southwest-inspired Nuevo Grill. A short stroll down the beach will bring you to the yacht harbor where you will find the popular Palomar Mexican restaurant and the Crow's Nest. The Crow's Nest is a great place on Wednesday to watch the sailboat races or enjoy the sunset, a glass of wine and a bite to eat. Great appetizers! Also within walking distance is a corner food store, liquor store, deli, coffee house, video store and a farmers market on Sunday

•BEDROOM: The bedroom has a queen size bed, with an adjoining sleeping nook with a day bed and an additional twin size bed will be found in the living room.. Reading lights, extra blankets and extra pillows are provided. A fold-out futon is stored under the day bed for your use.
•BATHROOM: The bathtub is deep and long with a hand-held shower. Bath towels, hand towels, wash clothes and soap are provided.
•FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN: Four-burner gas stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender for your fresh fruit smoothies! All cookware, dinnerware, utensils and linens to set a beautiful table are provided.
•AMENITIES: Cable TV with DVD player in the living room, high speed wireless internet, laundry facilities (washer, dryer, laundry soap, iron, ironing board), fully fenced backyard with gas grill, beach chairs, sand toys, cooler, fully equipped kitchen, high quality linens and towels, board games, books and very important here in Santa Cruz, off street parking for one vehicle and a street permit for another.

I have been lucky to live in Santa Cruz most of my life. I grew up in the Santa Cruz mountains and moved into town in 8th grade. After leaving the area for college and travel, I found myself back here. It seems for many, Santa Cruz is a difficult place to leave. I purchased the Green House and Cottage in 1994 from the original owner and builder of the main house (Green House). Soon after, I met my partner, michael, we created our 'dog family ' (now four) and last year we gave birth to our baby girl Emelia. Converting the Green House and Cottage into vacation rentals is our solution to me being able to 'take Emelia to work', rather than go to daycare. She is a wonderful 'helper' and I feel very lucky to be able to spend time with her while offering others the opportunity to enjoy the property.

Perfect little cabin near beach and restaurants
This cabin is nicely situated near beach, restaurants and stores yet in a very quiet location. It is the perfect size for a couple or a couple with up to two small children. The front porch gets the morning sun which is perfect for that morning cup of coffee and is out of the direct sun in the afternoon when you have had enough sun. There is a washer/dryer/grill and nice umbrella table out back.
Adorable getaway at the beach~
The place was perfect for my son and I - we each had our own space and plenty of places to lounge inside or out. The owner provides everything you will need for a beach trip - chairs, cooler, towels and more. The kitchen is great and the table is a great place for cards or a puzzle. Easy walk to the beach- pets on leash friendly! I hope to come back!
Perfect family cottage near the beach!
Our family (including our dog) stayed here during the 70.3 Ironman Santa Cruz weekend. This is probably our 6th VRBO rental and I have to say this is the most complete, well-stocked house we have ever rented! Everything's well thought out! Right as soon as we walked in we were welcomed with fresh flowers, coffee beans, SC stickers and dog treats for our dog!!! They even had poop bags and leash in the yard! Talk about a well stocked kitchen! Pots, pans, olive oil, sugar, salt, pepper was provided. Even coffee grinder for the coffee beans. It is a very clean place, everything was working. Thank you for the beach wagon - taking our 4 & 5 year old to the beach made it easier with all their beach toys and towels. We didn't noticed until we were ready to leave but there were beach chairs too! Even my husband, who is hard to please, liked the kitchen faucet and bathroom shower. These tiny details really made our stay comfortable. Also, there is a small but complete Italian grocery about 1/2 block from the cottage which has the freshest salads and desserts (gelato, tiramisu). Most places are within 5-8 miles from the cottage and easy to get to. My husband who competed in the Ironman event placed first in his age group which made our stay really memorable! Comfy cottage and great location
We enjoyed our week at the cottage! It is just a very short stroll to a beautiful beach, in a safe, reasonably quiet, neighborhood, and centrally located to venues in Santa Cruz and Capitola. We were pleased to be only 20 minutes from the Santa Cruz Shakespeare Festival in DeLaveaga Park! The decor in the cottage is charming and comfortable, the kitchen well stocked. The back yard is very pleasant! And, altho we didn't use them, it is also well stocked with the necessities to enjoy playing at the beach! We would love to stay again.
Great beach rental
Great little rental, great location, clean and very well equipped with everything you need for cooking, entertaining a toddler, and trips to the beach. Kim and Heidi were very very accommating when we needed a little more time before checking out after an unexpected trip to urgent care. My only little comment that would help make this a rental we'd return to is the bed - it was too soft/saggy for our taste and I think had a foam pad on top. Other than that - really couldn't ask for anything better in a beach town rental. Thanks Kim for a great little beach getaway in our 2 week CA road trip!
Thank you for your very nice review. We were so sorry that you needed to add a trip to urgent care into your vacation. You hit on one of the challenges for vacation rental owners….the bed. Personal taste is so varied. We have found that the majority of our tenants are preferring foam mattresses. You are correct, there is a Tempurpedic topper on the bed, but the great thing about it being a topper, rather than the bed, is that is it removable. Should you decide to come back to the Cottage, we would be happy to remove the topper before your arrival. The traditional mattress underneath is supportive and of medium firmness. Great cottage and location
The cottage is great! Walking distance to the beach and amenities. Kim and Heidi were very helpful too! The family, including our dog, enjoyed it fully!

Weekly rentals may include only one weekend, therefore, may not begin on a Saturday or Sunday. MONTHLY RENTALS: The refundable deposit for monthly rentals is the same at the monthly rate and move out cleaning will be charged based on time needed to restore the house to its pre-rental status. In addition to the monthly rental fee, clients are required to have the house cleaned by our cleaners once a month at a rate of $100 per cleaning.
