1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2 Maximum
Welcome to our condo located on the second floor of Makaha Valley Towers, which is in the small, remote, and non-touristy town of Makaha/Waianae. It's far up on the north-west side of the island, away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu/Waikiki.
Makaha Valley Towers is about 1 mile inland from beautiful Makaha State Beach and is a few miles south of Yokohama Bay. Also a few miles up the road from there is Ka'ena Point, which is the end of the road (you can hike out to the tip, but the road does not connect to allow you to drive around it to the north shore).
Our 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom condo faces the ocean (when looking to your right) and mountains (when looking to your left).
The condo is completely furnished with a queen-size bed. There is a couch (that does NOT pull out into a bed), a coffee table, a swiveling recliner, a two-seat dining table and a sliding shoji screen that closes off the bedroom for privacy. The living room also has a flat screen TV with cable and a DVD player (you can rent DVDs at the Redbox kiosk at Longs Drugs in Waianae).
The bathroom has a shower over a tub, a sink and a toilet.
A fully stocked kitchen includes all utensils, as well as pots and pans, plates, glasses, etc. You'll find three bar stools at the kitchen counter as well as a dishwasher, fridge, a built-in microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker.
Large windows that go the length of the condo face out towards the ocean and mountains and there is a small lanai so you can enjoy the fresh air.
You will find beach towels, 2 beach chairs, 2 boogie boards, 2 sun hats, 2 umbrellas, and more in the storage closet located in the bathroom. There is ample closet space.
There is free parking (a refundable CASH deposit of $50 must be paid to the office for a parking pass). Makaha Valley Towers includes 24 hour security, a shared BBQ area, a swimming pool and laundry facilities.
Broadband wireless Internet (included) is available for your use.
MINIMUM STAY OF 4 NIGHTS. MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY IS 2 PEOPLE. NON-REFUNDABLE CLEANING FEE OF $125.
1) MAKAHA VALLEY TOWERS NO SMOKING POLICY: There is no smoking in the condo, on the lanai, or anywhere on the property grounds except for a designated smoking area near the BBQ area. There will be a $250 fine charged to any guest violating this rule.
2) TRAFFIC: The condo is located on the far North-West side of the island and there is heavy traffic during rush hour traffic (morning and afternoon-evening) as well as many stop lights. Therefore, be aware that it can take time to get to or from the condo to other locations on the island, depending on the traffic. Recommendation is to plan your day around rush hour traffic if possible.
3) PEACOCKS: There are peacocks on the grounds. Please note that while peacocks are beautiful, they can be noisy and because the unit is on the 2nd floor, you will hear them, mainly during the mating season in the Spring and mostly during the day but they can also be heard at night).

Peaceful Setting, Uncrowded Beaches, Away from the Kitsch
We had not been to the islands in almost 40 years, but we knew we did not want to deal with the crowds and tourist kitsch of Waikiki Beach. We took a chance on Makaha Valley Towers (and this property in particular), first on price (extremely reasonable), and it was in an area we had never explored.
Even though the building is approaching 50 years old (and looks comically out of place in its surroundings), it is in remarkable condition and the grounds are very well cared for. The mountain and ocean views are wonderful - the VRBO photos don't tell the whole story. Listening to the birds (and yes, the peacocks as well) while enjoying breakfast was a treat. The unit is furnished nicely and the appliances are modern and in good condition. Cabinetry looks original circa 1970, but work as designed. Although we did not use the pool, the pool area and adjacent BBQ area are immaculate. Someone had reviewed the building in another forum complaining about all of the rules for living here, either as a resident or a rental tenant. Yes, there are a lot of rules - I read them all and I believe that is why the facility is in great condition.
Office staff, maintenance people and security staff, all were pleasant to deal with. You do have to pay $50 cash up front to get a parking permit, refunded to you when you check out.
Working with Craig was great - he is easy to contact, kept us up to date on our reservation and checked in via email to ensure we were enjoying our stay. The wine and chocolate macadamia nuts awaiting us in the unit were a nice touch.
The Waianae Coast is not tourist heaven, unless you are looking for "Authentic" Hawaii. Don't come here expecting Waikiki. No high-end retailers, t-shirt shops, or ABC Stores to be seen here. Very few resort properties in the area, either.
There are local eateries, local markets, a few fast food chain places (McDonalds, Jack in the Box, L&L Hawaiian BBQ), uncrowded beaches, bad roads, homeless camps. However - if you must - 15 miles south is Kapolei, where you will find a Wal-Mart, Safeway, Costco, and other modern retail outlets.
And, it is a hefty drive from Makaha to any other place on Oahu. Again, after dealing with Waikiki, Downtown Honolulu, horrific rush hour traffic, or just a long drive around the island, it was great to come back to MVT and just relax. Makaha Beach - a mile from the condo - is uncrowded, surfers take up the north end of the beach. First on my list next trip here.
Clean condo with all the amenities of home
Great place to stay, close to major highway, beautiful views and very accommodating. Close to some beautiful beaches as well.
Good condo and great complex to stay in!
The condo has everything you need for a stay in Hawaii. We enjoyed our time. The security is a great plus, just relax and enjoy. We return every year and were disappointed the unit was already booked for next year, but will definitely be watching this unit in future.
Fabulous view. Great value. The only downside s that Farrington Highway is the only road in and the only road out. Heavy traffic no matter what time of day, especially taxing during rush hour. Despite this fact, I would still consider this location in the future.
Very nice condo with a great view of ocean
Well maintained and secure place, close to beaches.
Very good customer service from property manager and security staff of the complex. will recommend to friends and relatives
Property while older is well maintained.
nice condo, property is well secured, security is ever present. Unit itself meets needs of couple or perhaps a couple and a child. Please note that it is the west end of the island and not anywhere near the tourist area of Waikiki or the east end of the island. Plenty of nice beaches starting at the far west end at Yokohama bay all the way to the Ko Olina man made lagoons. Traffic on Farrington Highway is ok although there is a lot of construction, avoid rush hour travel and it is good. The unit met our needs and we had a car so we were able to do touristy things as well as have quiet. There appears to be a lot of homeless people on the island but it is on this end as well as in the tourist areas.
Located on the 2nd floor of Makaha Valley Towers, which is on the far North-West side of the island about an hour from the hustle & bustle of Honolulu (with light traffic). About 1 mile from beautiful Makaha State Beach and just up the road is Yokohama Bay and Ka'ena Point.
