Quaint New River Cottage - Relax and enjoy nature’s beauty in Fries, VA

New River Cottage

Come experience relaxing in this completely restored 1902 mill house. This vacation home is located in the charming historic town of Fries, VA. The large front porch overlooks the New River and the New River Trail State Park which is the perfect setting for your morning coffee or evening wine.

Inside you will find the large comfortable living room with numerous seating options and a 55” Smart TV.

The well-stocked kitchen includes a gas range, dishwasher, refrigerator, countertop icemaker, drip coffee maker, and Keurig. The dining area located in the kitchen has sitting at the dining table or counter top bar.

Primary bedroom with King size bed includes a seating area with an attached full bathroom. Second bedroom has two twin beds and is adjacent to the second full bathroom. The second full bathroom has an additional private dressing area and washer and dryer.

Sunroom includes a daybed, 34” Smart TV, and a dedicated desk with a gorgeous river view. It’s a great room to snuggle up with a good book, play a board game, or assemble a puzzle.

Looking to stay active?
The New River Trail State Park is within easy walking distance to hike, run, or ride bikes while following the New River for miles. Also, within walking distance is a river access for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and river tubing. Bring your own or rent from New River Outdoor Adventures.
There is a secure secure storage area for your bike, canoe or kayak and also an electrical outlet to charge your E-bike.
Enjoy Bluegrass?
Every Thursday night - 7-9pm at the Historical Fries Theatre in Fries, VA.
Most Friday nights – 7-9pm at The Rex Theater in Galax, VA
Saturdays - Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway

(Ring camera on front porch and backyard so owners can see the River and check the weather in Fries. Cameras are not monitored. No cameras inside.)

Sweet House in a Great Location

We stayed at this house to run the New River Trail Races. Could not have been in a better location for that! The house was beautiful and well appointed. We cooked in and had everything we needed. Very well stocked. Just an adorable place in an idyllic setting.

A Slice of Heaven

To start with the view from the front porch of the river is breathtaking. You can see the New River Trail from the front porch. Our visit was to ride the trail and ride the trail we did. The house is very clean and very well appointed. The beds are comfy. The host is very quick to respond to questions. We met a neighbor and he told us about the Dam Jam and cake walk on Thursday night. It was so much fun. Every person in Fries we met was genuinely kind. You will love Fries and the property. It’s amazing. I hope to go back soon!

What a gem!

The cottage is precious and was perfect for our stay in Fries! The front porch is the perfect place for morning coffee or afternoon snacks. Even on the hottest day of the year, the porch had a nice breeze and was great. Betty was very nice and accommodating. We look forward to our return.

Just Excellent in Every Way

The view from the porch was fantastic... but living in the house was also great. It has a bunch of nice extra features that exceed what you expect based on the description/pictures. The kitchen/bath/laundry were also stocked with everything we could possibly need. Betty was very responsive to our questions and even accommodated a special request. Planning to go back as soon as we can arrange.

Annual guys fishing trip

Me and a couple buddies came to Fries for our annual fishing trip on the New River. We had a blast and the fishing below Fries dam was very good. The house couldn't have been located in a more convenient location. We walked to the Windy River Diner for lunch one day and dinner two nights because it was so close and everything was very good. The view from the house is amazing, as was hearing the river as soon as you walk out the door. It was very cozy and very well equipped. We will certainly be back in the future!

A Little Bit of Heaven

We truly enjoyed the riverfront view! We have camped there multiple times but always wondered what riverfront vacationing would be like. The mill house was excellent. Clean, well appointed with cooking supplies, wifi, clean towels and bed linens. We met the family down the street who helps keep it clean and the exterior landscaped and they were very helpful. The town is very friendly and we enjoyed the Thursday night dance and music at the YMCA. This has been our second home and a place for me to write poetry about small town river life. Peace reigns here!

Great house

This house was exactly as advertised, great communication with Betty. Lots of honey touches, very comfortable. The house had just about everything you could possibly need. On our last day, the heat went out. A relative of Betty and Mike came over and tri d to trouble shoot the issues. When he could not fix it, and it was going to be quite chilly that night, Betty said she would refund the last night and we left a day early. We didn't expect the refund but was nice. They were very apologetic but it was no ines fault except the very Gusty winds. Had a great t. Definitely recommend and hope to revisit in the future.
