Wonderfully serene, yet just down the road from amenities. So relaxing to watch the flowers bloom throughout the course of our stay and to take in the birds, chipmunks, and deer.
23-23 September 2025 - It was a wonderful 6 days spent chilling, bird watching, and grilling. This is my second visit to the Goochland Getaway, and it will not be my last. The solitude was remarkable, as was the house. Thank you for a wonderful visit. I hope to visit again soon.
This incredible space gave my wife and I exactly what we needed these last few days. We were very impressed with what has been done with this place: all the beautiful furnishing, calming colors, great and versatile lighting for all needs and the gorgeous wooden walls.
Nice property. Very clean. Great owners. The property has a slight mold/mildew smell and when the heat’s on there is a faint smell of cigarette smoke. Probably needs new duct work and HVAC. Heat pump made clanking noises like it needed service. Just turning on the oven set off the fire alarm. We decided not to use it. Beds were too soft and not very comfortable. That being said, I would stay there again if the beds could be less soft. Good value for money.

Thank you, Thomas, for your report of the issues you stated. We do wish you had promptly communicated these issues with us by phone, text, VRBO message, or in our spiral notebook at the desk area during your stay. We are available within 10 minutes of the Goochland Getaway to help our guests enjoy their stay to the fullest. We would have been so happy to talk with you and immediately address solutions that could have made your stay more pleasant.
We'd like to address some of these concerns on this format:
1, Although we haven't yet had other guests let us know about the oven setting off the smoke alarm, we appreciate you letting us know now and we will get that taken care immediately.
2. We have a "No Smoking" policy, and in the four years we've had this property, only one guest broke that rule three years ago. Post-stay, the house was immediately sanitized professionally. We've had no further issues with a smoker's smell.
3. We have the HVAC system checked twice a year, and the system consistently scores clear of mold and mildew. We frequently have repeat guests who have sensitive allergies and we've had only positive reviews. With that said, we are due for a regular springtime HVAC check late this month and will make a note of your two HVAC complaints to the inspector
4. We intentionally bought 3 bed types for various sleeping preferences. We have one firm mattress, one semi-firm mattress, and one soft mattress. This is explained in our Guest notebook found on the dining room table upon check-in.
We wish you well, and hope your other VRBO stays elsewhere will be wonderful.
George and Kathleen
I rented this charming octagonal shaped cabin in the beautiful woods of Manakin-Sabot Va. for my son, fiance, groomsmen, and bridesmaids to get ready for their wedding at nearby Deep Run Hunt Club. The guys watched football at snacked, while the girls did makeup and curled their hair. After the wedding on Saturday, it was nice for the limo to drop off the new bride and groom at thier honeymoon spot for the night!!
The property was spotless, check-in a breeze and location perfect for peace & quiet. Although the weather was not ideal (in part due to hurricane Helene further south), we took time to visit near and far locations: Luray Caverns (wow!!), Fredericksburg, Williamsburg, and Richmond museums. Thank you to George and Kathleen.
The property is beautiful, peaceful, and private, but you can get to a shopping area that has everything in about 15 minutes, so the best of both worlds. We were able to explore the area and then come back to such a relaxing place. Also, I was working remotely for part of the time and had no problems with the internet, even in zoom meetings. The house had so much light with floor to ceiling windows. The hosts were great. I highly recommend it!
This home is off the beaten path but still close to shopping, restaurants, and easy access to interstate. We loved the private setting and beautiful landscaping. This home is unique and functional. My only suggestion is to replace Murphy bed with a real bed. My kids traded rooms daily as Murphy bed was not comfortable to sleep in. Other than that we would not have asked for a better stay or better host!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay, and appreciate your feedback about the Murohy bed. It has a standard queen-sized mattress, but we intentionally chose a different firmness for each of the 3 queen sized beds. We will be sure to provide some special optional padding for future guests who may also find that mattress is too firm.
We were quite intrigued when we discovered this rare property, as we were searching for something unique and memorable in a quiet and peaceful setting for a retreat away from all the noise of the world, yet close enough to civilization should we choose to venture out. This extraordinary place provided exactly that - it transported us back to a simpler, uncomplicated time in life, secluded in the middle of the woods where we could totally relax, unwind, and be refreshed and renewed as we basked in the sheer beauty of nature, yet it was only a mere 15 minutes away from Short Pump, VA, with well over 100 shops and restaurants to choose from - the very best of both worlds, indeed! Kathleen and George were gracious and thoughtful hosts, and even offered to come blow the falling autumn leaves off the expansive deck toward the end of our stay if we desired. There was nothing we would change about the home, which was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated, and immaculate. The gas fireplace inside and the firepit outside warmed our souls, our hearts, and our spirits. We've stayed at over three dozen Vrbo-type properties over the years from Seattle to Portland to Chicago to Lake Ontario, and this by far has been our favorite in terms of the PEACE we experienced in this tranquil sanctuary, where one can sense God's presence all around as you gaze in awe and wonder at the beauty of creation surrounding you. Thank you, Kathleen and George, for all the love you have poured into this very, very special place.
With gratitude, and blessings beyond measure,

The house is in a great spot if you want to relax and unwind. The owners are great to deal with, very helpful and open to suggestions. I would recommend this house to anyone. We will stay there again if we are ever in the area again.
