Why Gordon Stark chose Plantation

I invite you to share the natural wonder that is St. George Island. Whether you are planning your first visit or returning for your annual family reunion, there is much to explore and enjoy on the 28-mile long and one mile wide barrier island. Uncrowded, natural beaches, free from high rises, traffic and crowds, offer many simple pleasures – excellent fishing, kayaking, outstanding bird watching and awesome star gazing – just to name a few. And the beaches are pet friendly, so no one gets left behind at vacation time!

The Gulf of Mexico, The Apalachicola Bay and the Apalachicola River converge to form one of the most productive estuaries in the world. These island waters are nationally recognized as a fisherman’s paradise. Fresh oysters and sweet, plump shrimp are harvested locally and sold at the numerous fresh seafood dealers. You may also enjoy these seafood delicacies at the excellent restaurants on St. George Island and nearby Apalachicola and Eastpoint.

There are a number of full service marinas and public launch ramps available in Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and now on St. George Island. Enjoy guided excursions to nearby uninhabited islands, national wildlife preserves and the Apalachicola River. The Dr. Julian G. Bruce State Park at the eastern end of the Island also provides excellent kayaking launches.

What makes this house unique

Loggerhead sea turtles are an important part of life on St. George Island. Loggerheads return to their own hatching grounds to nest and lay eggs between May and November.

Nearby Apalachicola has much to offer with its boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, Dixie Theatre presentations, historic museums, live marine exhibit and many excellent restaurants. Visit the Apalachicola Bay website for a year round Calendar of Events and find activities you can enjoy no matter what time of year you are here.

Bring your own bicycles, or rent them from one of the shops, and enjoy the Island’s 6.3 mile bike path - from 12th Street West to the State Park. Pack your binoculars for native and migratory bird watching. And gaze at the stars in the magnificent sky, unobstructed by the glare of city lights.

The newest addition to the Island is the majestic Cape St. George Light, rebuilt from the fallen remains of the final Cape St. George Lighthouse. Visit the St. George Island Visitor Center and Lighthouse Museum and learn about its fascinating history.

So leave your “other life” behind as you cross the bridge and enter Island Time. Discover all of the reasons you will come to love St. George Island and want to return for more! I look forward to seeing your footprints in the sand soon!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a blast! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your house. St. George was great and you have a fabulous house. I cant recommend Chris Robinson enough as a fishing guide. We loaded up on Redfish on the grass flats and also caught a pile of trout and flounder. I hooked one Tarpon about 50lbs but he threw the hook after the third jump and after stripping about 25 yards of line off the reel. I had chances of hooking 3 others but couldn’t get them to bite. Thanks again for letting us stay. Ill be sure to pass on your listing to our friends.

Paradise Perfection

  • 5 of 5

This was our first annual family beach trip and our first time to St. George Island so we had extremely high hopes for the vacation. Gordon's home surpassed our expectations and was exactly what we needed! The house was in great shape, far better than the pictures show. The views from inside and outside the house are breathtaking! Throughout the week, we had 8 adults and 3 children in the home and had plenty of space. The mornings spent in rocking chairs on the deck were made even better by all of the dolphins dancing close to shore. Both the adults and kids loved the pool and the convenient distance to the beach was great. We could go back and forth to the house for snacks, naps, etc with ease. We had plenty of beach space and it all seemed very private and secluded. We can't wait to go back!

Great Vacation!

This was our first visit to St George and our first experience with renting a beach house. Both were better than we could imagine. Plenty of room and the location was great. Plan to return often.

Slice of Heaven

Everything about the Reed Deal is perfection...the house, the space, THE VIEWS, the beach, the pool, the privacy. I've never been in a more relaxing space with the most beautiful sun rises to greet you every day! Gordon the owner is a gem! Be sure to pack a small bottle of laundry detergent (no Tide products!) to have fresh beach towels everyday. Make sure to have dinner at the Blue Parrot which is extremely family friendly and grab a double scoop at Aunt Ebby's Ice Cream for an evening walk on the beach.

Best Family Trip Yet!

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting SGI for over 15 years & spent several years @ A Reel Deal w/another rental Co. We lost contact until this year we found it on VRBO! So excited we did & booked immediately. The owner made upgrades & added more sleeping space since we last visited & it suited our family w/ kids' friends perfectly. The house is spacious & well equipped, w/bikes & option to rent paddle boards & kayaks. We were blessed w/perfect weather, perfect snapper fishing as well as snagging some small sharks & a visit from a Manta Ray as well as many Dolphins. My daughter was able to catch a sunrise on her paddle board one morning, yes, the water was that calm. What a beautiful picture she got! The pool was a great retreat from the sand & sun & our dog was in "dog heaven" retrieving her tennis balls from the surf. Thanks Gordon for paying attention to the important details. Hope to be back again next year!

Came to a Reel Deal for a reunion of friends (mostly from the west coast with one exception) and spent a week, plus a couple of bonus days (Thanks Gordon!). No one had ever been to St. George's Island and it was such a treat. The island is extremely remote and once you pass thru the gates of the Plantation where the house is located it is as if you are in a Shangri-La, truly paradise. The house was spacious and more than enough room, the beach was so private we rarely saw anyone. For the cloudy days, having our own pool was perfection. My dog was in heaven. I actually cried when I left because she had such a good time (or maybe because I was leaving). Literally had the time of ours lives, everyone left very happy and relaxed. It was the perfect place for us and we will be back.

Relaxation at its Finest!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to St. George Island and A Reel Deal and we hope that it won't be our last. We didn't arrive until midnight, exhausted after a 14 hour day of travel and the house was set up perfectly, very inviting and clean. The best part was waking up the following morning to see what we really had! Gorgeous views, privacy and a fabulous house perfectly arranged for our situation - 2 couples and our dogs. 2 beautiful master suites so that no one felt they had the lesser accommodations, large very functional kitchen, perfect for group cooking, and open to the dining and living area so we could enjoy the company and views from every spot! Not many people on the beach so it was like we had our own private island but the people that we did meet were very friendly. We fished, kayaked, walked on the beach and hiked along some of the trails on the bay side. (Just be aware of the large and hungry mosquitos in the sheltered woods on the bay - even in November!). If you need lots of commercial entertainment, then this probably isn't the place to get that although Apalachicola was a short drive and offers great restaurants and some shopping. St. George offers all that is needed for a relaxing family or friends vacation. The pool was a fabulous treat for those of us who aren't big fans of swimming in the ocean, but our husbands and the dogs did take their dips in the surf. The large main deck was great for lounging and we brought a gate to close off the steps so the dogs could hang out on the deck safely when we were not outside with them. The house is tastefully decorated and comfortable and does not give you that rental house feeling. Mr. Stark was extremely responsive and communicative throughout the entire process for our first VRBO rental experience. Much better than previous experiences through a rental company. We would love and hope to return for future vacations.
