About Jennifer and Gregory
Jennifer and Gregory love living in in the picturesque village of Wimberley and sharing their unique vacation rentals with their guests. Gregory is a woodworker and his handiwork is evident in each of their vacation homes. Jennifer is an art teacher and teaches small classes out of the studio behind their home. They have a large garden, chickens, cats, and a dog.
Jennifer and Gregory purchased this Recreational Vehicle in 2011
Why Jennifer and Gregory chose Wimberley
This property has such a special place in our hearts. With the hilly terrain and beautiful creek we feel like we have our own little slice of hill country heaven. We strive to keep our 10 acres as natural as possible. We've created some walking trails to the most scenic parts of the creek and left other areas uncleared to provide animal habitat, a healthy riparian landscape and privacy. Our guests often see foxes, deer, a variety of birds, and other wildlife. We even have a blue heron that likes to fly over the creek each morning.
What makes this Recreational Vehicle unique
The Dixie Daisy is a unique vacation rental, indeed! Many of our guests like the outdoors and the experience of camping without the hassle of setting up a campsite (and the luxury of a real bathroom). We also get lots of visitors from Austin escaping the city for a few nights with just a quick drive out to the country. We even get international visitors looking to have that very American travel trailer/road trip experience. It's a fun space and we think you'll love it!
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Laid Back Living
So fun to unwind for a few days with nature! Enjoyed the glamping experience, especially the outdoor shower. Recommend this to any nature lover and adventurer. Also enjoyed some great restaurants nearby. Thanks to our very accommodating hosts!
FIREFLIES AT NIGHT!! WOW
Great getaway from the hustle and bustle of Houston! We hadn't visited Wimberley previously being a lifelong Texan. This was a perfect experience to get a glimpse of everything Wimberley has to offer! Loved the cozy airstream and the outdoor shower! The fireflies were an exciting surprise!
We enjoyed the hot tub as well! Everything was super clean and all the amenities needed for a (fancy) campout!
After talking with this guest, we realized he thought some early morning construction noise from across the creek came from us, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Our neighbors were doing some building, but construction noise is not the norm for sure. We always do our best to respect our guests and their desire for a peaceful nature experience. It's the very thing we love about our property as well!
Cozy, very Nice and Very comfortable
Spent the week at the Retro Airstream. It was our 5th Anniversary and we just loved the Dixie Daisy. Everything about it was Great. Will definitely be coming for another trip.
You're welcome back any time!
We heart this place. We heart this little town. It was quiet. Everything needed for a relaxing anniversary trip was there. Scenic views in the area and the property is lovely. Outdoor shower. There’s something extra special taking a shower outside. Even when there is a cold breeze that blows across your backside. We did not get to try the hot tube. Our last night there was cold and raining but there was something romantic about a cold, rainy night in this little airstream.
You know how you tell eggs are fresh? They are not a uniform size and are not just white or brown. Jennifer and Gregory provided fresh eggs and even a bottle of champagne to help us celebrate our anniversary.
The little town is what you expect. Cute shops and the such. They do close early though. We were there over Halloween and even with the cold rainy weather this town came to life and we got a glimpse of small town life. The people are hella nice and Shamrock Tacos is great!
My only issue is not the fault of anyone. I am gaint sized. 6”4 and “big boned”. The toilet was a no go zone for me. I became very acquainted with the people at Brookshire Brothers. Just an FYI for other supersized people.
In summation great property to stay at, great little town, adjustments will need to be made if you are a large people. Jennifer and Gregory are great hosts.
Perfect Anniversary Getaway
This is our 3rd year in a row to stay in one of Gregory and Jenn’s Properties. It’s becoming our tradition. The Dixie Daisy was fantastic and quaint, exactly what’s we needed for some peace and quiet in the woods. Thanks so much! Can’t wait to come back.
Thank you for the kind words! You guys are always welcome back here!
Wonderful country getaway that is close enoughto Wimberley and other Hill Country sites.
We loved the Airstream and the surrounding area. The outdoor shower was great, as was the hot tub. The hot tub had various jets and massaging jets. Felt good. The hot tub was nice and clean. Enjoyed walking the property and our furry faithful traveling companion liked that also. There is a nice deck with table and chairs which we used frequently. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate enough for us to use the grill, hammock and fire pit but they are all a plus. Only downside was a problem with the circuit breaker. It flipped and turned off the fridge which in turn ruined our food. There was a note about not running the hair dryer with a lot of lots on, but we hadn't even used the hair dryer, so the fridge going out was a surprise we weren't expecting. The place could use a good dusting -- dust bunnies and cob webs on ceiling, picture frames, etc. Overall, we enjoyed our time and would rent it again.
Wimberley is a fun place to stay with lots of great local activities. We leave a book of flyers for area restaurants and attractions in the Airstream, but here are some of our favorites.
In the summer, we recommend taking a dip at one of the local swimming holes. We’ll leave a list of area swimming holes in the Airstream, but Blue Hole is our favorite and its refreshing, spring-fed water is just 3 minutes away. Jacob's Well (reserve swim time at http://www.co.hays.tx.us/jwna.aspx) and The Blanco River (pay to park at Pioneer Town) are great choices as well. The Corral Theater is a lovely place to catch an outdoor movie on a Fri-Sun night. Bring a camp chair and enjoy the show! If you don’t mind driving over to San Marcos (20 min.), rent a tube from the Lion’s Club at City Park and tube the San Marcos River. You can tube 'the horseshoe' part of The Guadalupe River by renting tubes from The Tube Haus on FM 306 (20 min). The glass bottom boat rides at TX State’s Aquarena Center are really wonderful and educational, too!
There are several area wineries with beautiful grounds: The Driftwood Estate Winery, The Wimberley Valley Winery, and The Duchman Family Winery (and the Italian restaurant, Trattoria Lisina). There is also Bella Vista Ranch, a local olive orchard and olive oil producer. Their grounds, shop, and tasting room are open Mon, Thurs, Fri, and Sat.
Some of our other favorite activities include taking a hike up Old Baldy to watch the sun set, going ziplining at Wimberley Ziplines, visiting a local winery, grabbing a yummy house-brewed pint at Middleton Brewing or Wimberley Brewing Company, taking a jog or walk along the hike and bike trail at Blue Hole Regional Park, catching some live music at Cypress Creek Cafe’s Buzzard Bar, Linda’s Fine Foods, or Ino’z, and taking a morning or evening drive along The Devil’s Backbone (Hwy 32). We also love day trips to Pedernales Falls State Park (about 40 minutes away) or Luckenbach/Fredericksburg/Enchanted Rock (about 1/1.5 hrs away). Guests also ask about local hiking trails, and San Marcos has several greenbelts that are great spots for a hike: http://smgreenbelt.org/SMNaturalAreas.htm. Our local Blue Hole Park also has some nature trails and a three mile one way hike and bike trail.
For dining, we highly recommend The Leaning Pear and Jobell on RR12 just outside of the town center. They're both really yummy! The Salt Lick BBQ is a fantastic choice, located about 15 minutes away in Driftwood. Trattoria Lisina is also in Driftwood, and it’s a great for a more elegant dinner. It’s located on the grounds of the Duchman Family Winery, which is beautiful. Other Wimberley restaurants include: Brewster’s Pizza (gluten-free and dairy-free options), I’noz (average food, but nice setting on Cypress Creek & live music on weekend nights), Kate’s Place, Linda’s Fine Foods, San Angel Mexican Restaurant, Marco’s Italian, Wimberley Café (popular for breakfast), and Cypress Creek Café. You can also pick up good breakfast tacos at Shamrock Tacos. We do our best to keep updated menus for these restaurants in a binder in the Airstream.
