PARADISE IS NOT LOST!! COME VISIT BEAUTIFUL CORAL BAY AND STAY ON JOHNNY HORN TRAIL ADJACENT TO THE NATIONAL PARK.

Two bedroom, open, light contemporary house with lovely views of Coral Harbor. Romantic design with deck off the master bedroom and views of Bordeaux Mountain from bed. The secluded setting on the Johnny Horn Trail, adjacent to the National Park and above the historic Moravian Church, offers proximity to all of the best of St. John. Hike 1 mile in one direction to Waterlemon Beach, famous for snorkeling and sea turtles, or head downhill to the quaint town of Coral Bay for breakfast at Pickles Deli or a cheeseburger at Skinny Legs. Jog through the National Park to Maho Bay or hop in your 4 wheel drive (a must!) for a 5 mile trip to water sports at Cinnamon Bay.

The house is a perfect, private get-away for a couple or more with 2 open bedrooms, each with a Queen bed. There is a double size futon in the living area also. Family friendly - great for teenagers who might want to take hikes or walk down to breakfast on their own.

The generous deck is partially covered, with ceiling fans, a huge sectional sofa, party lights, hammock, gas BBQ grill for lounging and dining, sunning and star gazing.

To help connect with the Caribbean, there is an outdoor tropical shower and lovely wood floors that feel good under bare feet.

No need to bring much: the house is stocked and ready with beach chairs & towels, nice linens, picnic Tupperware, cooler, and a yoga mat. Hook your iPod into the stereo and fire up the blender. Organic nursery nearby to buy greens, tomatoes and peppers.

We have WiFi !! AT&T phones work great here!

For low-guilt 'sustainable vacationing', the house sports a 14,000 gallon rainwater collection cistern, solar hot water heater, and filtered wastewater produces grey water for garden irrigation.

Aventura

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review I'm sorry that you had an allergic reaction, the road is dirt and rocky to the house we do recommend a 4x4 and the locals here do tend to think they own the road, there are passing places but it is very tight. Thank you for leaving the house very tidy. Sharon

Island Treehouse

  • 4 of 5

When we arrived at the house, Sharon described staying there as “glamping”, but really the only thing that reminded me of camping was the bugs. The house sufficiently provided everything we needed for our stay on St. John. The location is great for touring the whole island. The beach chairs with back pack straps that were provided were great. We loved the outdoor shower. My daughters thought it was hilarious that there were frogs watching them while they showered. Between the stovetop, grill, and toaster oven, we were able to make most of our meals at the house.

You do need 4 wheel drive to maneuver the road to get there, but it is a short drive and the road is not that bad. I have seen worse on St. John. The house is very peaceful and we enjoyed the wildlife including iguanas, goats, frogs, and birds that visited. We enjoyed not having tv or internet and spent the evenings listening to music and playing games. There is a stereo, so bring your iPod or phone loaded with your favorite music.

The house was in fairly good condition considering the recent hurricanes. There was some evidence of water damage inside and could probably use some maintenance. The window screens have some gaps which I think allowed more bugs than usual to enter the home. We finally figured out that if we closed most of the windows and doors in the evening (especially after a rainstorm), the bugs in the house were reduced dramatically. We did have a lizard living in the home with us. He didn’t bother us, but we wished he would have eaten more bugs. LOL

Overall this home provides a good cost effective way to stay on the island if you do not require too many amenities and enjoy living among nature.

Rustic cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

JHT home was perfect for us. It was just my husband & I and we spent every day hiking, beaching & snorkeling. When we returned late in the day the outdoor shower was refreshing & cool. The breezes were excellent & we seldom used a fan in our 2 week stay. As other reviews mention- if you are looking for pampering this is not the place for you. It is a rustic cabin. Bugs can be an issue in the evenings especially if it rains. Sharon is a lovely host. She was there if we needed her & that was it. We enjoyed the restaurants around Coral Bay & favorites are Pickles, the Pizza Bar & Indigo. We will definitely stay at JHT house again. Despite the hurricanes the island is so truly breathtaking and really recovering. We saw so much progress in just the short time we were there and met so many people who are there helping with recovery. Their stories and those of the people of St. John are cherished memories for years to come. Thank you Sharon for helping to make our stay the dream vacation we had planned. See you next year.

Week stay at Johnny Horn Trail Estate Emmaus (JHTEE)

  • 5 of 5

Still bummed that we had to come home after a week stay at JHTEE. The house was perfect for my girlfriend and I! The island has taken a huge blow from 2 horrible storms but recovery is visible everywhere! The house is up maybe 1/4 mi from the highway, tucked into the hill and very private. The homes close had significant damage so there were no neighbors close at all. There are a few houses further up the hill but very rare Jeep traffic from there. You must have a 4WD vehicle to access this house. JHTEE is a small 2 BR, 1ba with central kitchen, dining, living. The bedrooms don't have doors, just curtains. The outside shower was way cool (literally on some of the cooler days!). Privacy would be an issue for us if we had any others with us. The kitchen has most of what u need to cook simple meals. There is a toaster oven, not a full oven that we even cooked baked potatoes in. There is a washer/dryer under the house but were told it was only available for 7d or longer stays. I would encourage the owner to make this available to all. We needed to wash towels/clothes almost every day. The best things re JHTEE is the deck (very comfy furniture) and the incredible flow through ventilation. I was worried re getting hot but actually got cool at night! The bed was very comfy as well. We hiked, snorkeled, ate and drank with abandon. Rec reading St John, Off the Beaten Trail (which they have at the house). Places to hike: Reef Bay Trail (hard on way up with a cool waterfall at the end), Ram Point trail, JHT from the beach with a side trail to Murphy Great House. Busy Bee charter with Capn Brian and sailing on the Cimmaron with Capn Rick were both great days! Eats: Extra Virgin, Lime Inn, the Wok and of course Skinny Legs (only open till 6!). If u want a place to get away from life as we know it (also no TV, wifi or internet and iffy cell coverage) and don't require a "5-star" all inclusive resort JHTEE would bee a grand choice!!.

Hurricane Irma

  • 1 of 5

Our stay was canceled by owner due to impending Hurricane. The house was boarded up when I was contacted.

I am unsure if the house is still standing and have not heard anything about a refund.

We have been unable to contact Cool Breeze jeep rental on St. Johns for a refund as well.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks Marilyn Myers
