Great place to stay!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely perfect! Beautiful and breezy, comfortable to come back to after a day of beaching or hiking. Fantastic porch with a gorgeous view of Cora Bay. Conviently located yet private and quiet. We loved our stay and would not hesitate to go back to the Johnny Horn Trail house again! Thank you so much Sharon for making our stay so enjoyable!

2nd trip to Johnny Horn trail house

  • 5 of 5

Our 2nd trip to this house on St John!! This time we went with another couple and were so excited to share a piece of this paradise we had found with them! The house is in Coral Bay which is a little quieter than Cruz Bay, this attracts us to this side of the island. Both visits we truly call this home! The island is so special. This house has all the amenities we needed. We even stayed in one night and BBQ'd steak dinners out on the deck. The outdoor deck is such a relaxing way to end the beach days. We sat out there for hours listening to the birds and taking in the view! Also a great place for our morning coffee. The outdoor shower can seem intimidating but it really is so cool! So don't let that scare you! The sun hits it right about 4pm, perfect! The road up to the house requires 4x4 which is an adventure and adds to the excitement of the trip! Our favorite beaches this trip around were Trunk Bay for the beauty, Maho for swimming with the turtles, and Oppenheimer for the tire swing! All just a short drive away. We took a fitness class at twerk and tone in Cruz bay, a great way to start the day! Our favorite restaurants this time were Aqua Bistro, Indigo, Skinny legs and shipwreck all close by to the house! We can't wait to make it back for our 3rd trip, taking our 10 and 12 year old boys that go around!

Beautiful and airy

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week on St John, largely thanks to this vrbo find. We loved so much about the space--the airy interior, comfy bed, substantial deck with delightful view, and outdoor shower. Tradewinds and fans provided ample cooling, and we enjoyed hearing the crickets at night. Great location, nestled in the hills yet close to restaurants and grocery stores. Sandy's hospitality made us feel right at home--thanks! The home was clean and kitchen well appointed. Wifi and stereo for ipod worked well. I was happy to have a break from a tv. One small word of caution: the driveway up to the home is barely drivable. Luckily, we rented a 4WD drive--the only way to navigate the rocks and cement gullies--but the mile-long road always felt much, much longer. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would (simply because of the difficult driveway). Overall, we absolutely loved the house and our stay on St John. Thanks!

Owner's Response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay! Yes the road is a challenge but with 4WD it is negotiable. I hope you will consider the Johnny Horn Trail house for another visit! Really enjoyed meeting you! Sandi

Two week stay

  • 4 of 5

Just got back from a two week stay on STJ. We picked this cottage based on the VRBO description and the description is pretty much spot on.

- You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

- The road is steep and bumpy.

- The folding mechanism on the beach chairs were rusted out. Two different chairs broke during our stay and not from abuse. I talked to Sandi about it and she said they would be replaced.

- The house has no glass in the windows. It does have screens and storm shutters/doors if you need to enclose the house for some reason. It should catch breezes nicely. We did not have any bug problems in the house.

- That said, at least during our stay, it seemed that any wind on the island missed the cut up the Johnny Horn Trail valley. What breeze we did feel out on the balconies was blocked by the screens. We bought an additional fan at the hardware store before our second night in the cabin to blow on the bed at night. It would be nice if the ceiling fans were a bit lower and a bit more powerful.

- Master bed was very comfortable and the view out the screen doors was great. The bed in the other room left a bit to be desired.

- The hike over to Water Lemon Cay was really nice. Leave early, take water, and enjoy the ruins on the way to the best snorkeling on the island.

- The kitchen was well stocked for our purposes. We cooked breakfast most mornings and ate a few evening meals at the cabin as well.

- If you are looking for a resort like experience, this is not for you.

- If you are looking for a "roughing it" type experience, this is not for you.

- If you are easy going, pretty low maintenance, and spend a lot of time out enjoying everything St. John has to offer, this place is pretty much spot on.

Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here last year and realized I never left a review! The cottage was great, secluded but with an amazing view. Great for 2 couples or a family. There were 5 of us and it was nice but 1 person had to sleep on the futon in the living room. My favorite parts of the cottage were the large deck with sectional couch and the outdoor shower, it was like bathing in the jungle! Coral Bay itself was a nice quiet town where you could retreat after a days worth of adventures. We drove from Coral Bay all over the island, from one end to the other and it never felt like it was too far away from anything.

Coral Bay Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A cozy quaint quiet cottage, nothing fancy but adequate and comfortable. Coral Bay has a couple of small stores and some very good restaurant food. Lots of local music entertainment seasonally. 4 wheel drive country for sure.

Great balcony with super views of Coral Bay. Wildlife abound in the area from iguanas to deer. Fresh air, warm, clear ocean waters, hard to beat!
