Two bedroom, open, light contemporary house with lovely views of Coral Harbor. Romantic design with deck off the master bedroom and views of Bordeaux Mountain from bed. The secluded setting on the Johnny Horn Trail, adjacent to the National Park and above the historic Moravian Church, offers proximity to all of the best of St. John. Hike 1 mile in one direction to Waterlemon Beach, famous for snorkeling and sea turtles, or head downhill to the quaint town of Coral Bay for breakfast at Pickles Deli or a cheeseburger at Skinny Legs. Jog through the National Park to Maho Bay or hop in your 4 wheel drive (a must!) for a 5 mile trip to water sports at Cinnamon Bay.

The house is a perfect, private get-away for a couple or more with 2 open bedrooms, each with a Queen bed. There is a double size futon in the living area also. Family friendly - great for teenagers who might want to take hikes or walk down to breakfast on their own.

The generous deck is partially covered, with ceiling fans, a huge sectional sofa, party lights, hammock, gas BBQ grill for lounging and dining, sunning and star gazing.

To help connect with the Caribbean, there is an outdoor tropical shower and lovely wood floors that feel good under bare feet.

No need to bring much: the house is stocked and ready with beach chairs & towels, nice linens, picnic Tupperware, cooler, and a yoga mat. Hook your iPod into the stereo and fire up the blender. Organic nursery nearby to buy greens, tomatoes and peppers.

We have WiFi !! AT&T & Sprint phones work great here.

For low-guilt 'sustainable vacationing', the house sports a 14,000 gallon rainwater collection cistern, solar hot water heater, and filtered wastewater produces grey water for garden irrigation.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review I'm sorry that you had an allergic reaction, the road is dirt and rocky to the house we do recommend a 4x4 and the locals here do tend to think they own the road, there are passing places but it is very tight. Thank you for leaving the house very tidy. Sharon

Hurricane Irma

  • 1 of 5

Our stay was canceled by owner due to impending Hurricane. The house was boarded up when I was contacted.

I am unsure if the house is still standing and have not heard anything about a refund.

We have been unable to contact Cool Breeze jeep rental on St. Johns for a refund as well.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks Marilyn Myers

great week in st john snorkelling

  • 4 of 5

The description of the property is very accurate, this is not a high end resort but more a 'cabin in the woods'. Sharon was gracious and friendly and provided plenty of towels, extra sheets and beach chairs for our group of 5! The kitchen had lots of extras that were unexpected (condiments, a few beers, even ice cream in the freezer)

There were some closer than desirable neighbors with kids and a barking dog, but that could have been the case anywhere. The wildlife did not disappoint we had a resident thrasher, lots of birdlife, deer out the window, more than enough bugs (the mosquitos are fierce in august), and got to see an iguana (big) in the trees off the porch.

The location was perfect for our needs, off the beaten path, away from the bustle of town/night life, but easy access to all the snorkeling beaches. We did our breakfast and dinner in the kitchen eating out on the back deck. Thanks Sharon for making out stay comfortable.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much! Do come back again - we will be back on line after Irma and are helping to rebuild the independent and feisty community of Coral Bay. It's a special place.

Absolutely perfect! Beautiful and breezy, comfortable to come back to after a day of beaching or hiking. Fantastic porch with a gorgeous view of Cora Bay. Conviently located yet private and quiet. We loved our stay and would not hesitate to go back to the Johnny Horn Trail house again! Thank you so much Sharon for making our stay so enjoyable!

2nd trip to Johnny Horn trail house

  • 5 of 5

Our 2nd trip to this house on St John!! This time we went with another couple and were so excited to share a piece of this paradise we had found with them! The house is in Coral Bay which is a little quieter than Cruz Bay, this attracts us to this side of the island. Both visits we truly call this home! The island is so special. This house has all the amenities we needed. We even stayed in one night and BBQ'd steak dinners out on the deck. The outdoor deck is such a relaxing way to end the beach days. We sat out there for hours listening to the birds and taking in the view! Also a great place for our morning coffee. The outdoor shower can seem intimidating but it really is so cool! So don't let that scare you! The sun hits it right about 4pm, perfect! The road up to the house requires 4x4 which is an adventure and adds to the excitement of the trip! Our favorite beaches this trip around were Trunk Bay for the beauty, Maho for swimming with the turtles, and Oppenheimer for the tire swing! All just a short drive away. We took a fitness class at twerk and tone in Cruz bay, a great way to start the day! Our favorite restaurants this time were Aqua Bistro, Indigo, Skinny legs and shipwreck all close by to the house! We can't wait to make it back for our 3rd trip, taking our 10 and 12 year old boys that go around!

Beautiful and airy

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week on St John, largely thanks to this vrbo find. We loved so much about the space--the airy interior, comfy bed, substantial deck with delightful view, and outdoor shower. Tradewinds and fans provided ample cooling, and we enjoyed hearing the crickets at night. Great location, nestled in the hills yet close to restaurants and grocery stores. Sandy's hospitality made us feel right at home--thanks! The home was clean and kitchen well appointed. Wifi and stereo for ipod worked well. I was happy to have a break from a tv. One small word of caution: the driveway up to the home is barely drivable. Luckily, we rented a 4WD drive--the only way to navigate the rocks and cement gullies--but the mile-long road always felt much, much longer. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would (simply because of the difficult driveway). Overall, we absolutely loved the house and our stay on St John. Thanks!

Owner's Response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay! Yes the road is a challenge but with 4WD it is negotiable. I hope you will consider the Johnny Horn Trail house for another visit! Really enjoyed meeting you! Sandi
