About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5), creek on property, river nearby

Nestled in a very peaceful setting with a creek at the edge of the property, this cabin is perfect for enjoying early morning coffee, afternoon barbeques, local activities, or just relaxing on the deck and listening to the gentle sounds of the creek. Flowers and flowering trees planted around the cabin, deck, and down by the creek bloom at different times during the year and attract various kinds of butterflies and an occasional hummingbird or two. It has a large deck, rocking chairs, two wooden tables that fold out into a picnic table, outdoor tables/chairs, charcoal grill, and a hammock for your enjoyment. There is also a fire pit and benches beside the creek.

The road leading to the cabin is a private dirt road running along the creek about one tenth of a mile to the cabin. This is a private road and in order to respect the privacy of land owners, we ask that renters limit transportation to two vehicles and no large gatherings

We offer a military discount of 10% which we manually take off the total when booking the cabin. VRBO does add their own fees for each booking.

This non-smoking cozy mountain get-a-way is about 750 sf, has all wood floors, ruff-cut lumber interior walls, washer/dryer, 2 bedroom/1 bath, sleeps 5, and is fully furnished with everything you could possibly need to make this a memorable vacation retreat. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with a soft pillow top mattress, 32 inch flat screen with blue-ray/wi-fi, cable, and the guest bedroom has a futon bed with a full sized mattress on the bottom and a single mattress on the top with a 15 inch flat screen with blue-ray/Wi-Fi. There is a flat screen TV in the living room and wireless internet so that you may connect to your tablet, phone, or laptop. Cable tv is provided as well as a wide selection of movies for all ages located in the quest room. There is a coffee pot and a Keurig, so bring your favorite coffee or tea to enjoy while sitting on the deck. Cell phone coverage may not be available at the cabin, depending on your carrier, which is a common occurrence in some secluded areas in the mountains, however there is a landline for local phone calls and free long distance.

All sheets, bedding, blankets, and towels are provided and well as kitchen needs, utensils, and dishes. The woodstove makes for a cozy winter evening and wood can be purchased from nearby grocery stores if you choose. Summertime temperatures can be very cool and comfortable, however, for those who prefer the comfort of air conditioning, there is a mini split system for heating and air conditioning.

The cabin is located across the road from Elk Shoals Methodist Camp on the New River. During winter we can experience times of heavy show which will require 4 wheel drive to get up the 1/10 mile drive way. We do not have snow removal for the cabin or drive way so before booking the cabin during the winter months, please make sure your vehicle is equipped for handling heavy snow conditions.

For those who enjoy water activities, the New River is about a 5 min. walk down the driveway. Whether you enjoy fishing, swimming, tubing, kayaking, or canoeing, you are only a few minutes away. For those who enjoy winter sports, Boone, Blowing Rock and local areas are about 30 to 45 min. away.

West Jefferson is about a 7 min. drive into town and has plenty very quaint shops and perfect for walking from shop to shop, stopping by the ice-cream shop, farmers market, and dining. There is also a movie theater and the very popular Cheese Factory. Mt. Jefferson State Park offers hiking and scenic views of the area. West Jefferson and Glendale Springs are well known for The Church of the Fresco's, craft stores, antiquing, gallery hopping, golfing, shopping, restaurants, Shately Springs Restaurant, spectacular plays at the Arts Council, Christmas in July (first weekend in July), Fiddlers Convention (August), and a recreational park (Ashe Park) with tennis courts, softball field, pond, picnic tables, sheltered picnic tables, and hiking.

In Boone and Blowing Rock, within 25 to 30 minutes drive, you can find restaurants, shopping, crafts, Mast General Store, antiquing, book stores, theaters, plays and concerts presented at Appalachian University, spelunking, biking, fishing, hunting, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. Boone and Blowing Rock also have a variety of ski resorts and winter sports such as skiing, and snowboarding as well as Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Falls and Caverns, horseback riding, and gem mines.

For those who enjoy a leisurely scenic drive, The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 5 miles from the cabin and features breathtaking views of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, biking, hiking, and nearby waterfalls. If you search the web for Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls, it will provide information on the different waterfalls around the area as well as winter road closures on the Parkway.

So if you are looking for a peaceful get-away, this cabin is perfect. It was once a full time home and is completely furnished. Just bring your personal items, food, and prepare for a wonderful relaxing vacation. We have provided a book of local restaurants and a variety of activities in the area for those who wish to combine fun activities with peaceful relaxation.

Repeat Stay

  • 5 of 5

This is my second stay at the cabin and have enjoyed each. it is quiet, tranquil, and a great place to veg or get back in touch with nature, and myself. The cabin is well stocked with all the comforts and is charmingly decorated. The carpentry work inside is amazing. It's just a great place to get away from the noise, and listen to flowing water, birds, see butterflies and deer, and kick back on the large deck or couch.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed the deck and the fire pit. It is great to sit out on the deck and relax or get a fire going in the fire pit next to the creek. The house was built a long time ago and is rather small, but I am glad you found a way to make it work for you.

Great time!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a quick two night stay with our toddler and 2 dogs. We loved our stay here. The huge deck is gated which was great for our son to play on and two dogs to lounge. We ate breakfast out there each morning listening to the creek across the yard. There is a river at the beginning of the road we took our dogs swimming each afternoon. The house has a huge selection of dvds, some kids toys that our son loved and kitchen is stocked with flour, sugar and condiments. If you forgot something, they probably have it there for you. We loved our stay, thank you so much for providing an affordable stay where we could bring our fur babies too!

Great weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is well organized and clean. The sound of the creak is awesome and the bed is comfortable. My wife and I enjoyed a card game while cooking on the charcoal grill. We enjoyed down town West Jefferson. Our dog enjoyed the public park at the church and the cabin as well. We look forward to visiting West Jefferson again.
