Buckhorn Lake Cabin is a beautiful, log cabin built by my family, and surrounded by pine trees and large wrap-around deck with view of Buckhorn Lake, a quiet, no-wake lake. The cabin is officially designated a no-stress zone. The 2,200-foot cabin sleeps 11, and has two full baths. It’s heritage living, but with all the amenities of home including dishwasher, microwave, jacuzzi, stone fireplace, heat, and air conditioning. The perfect place to get reacquainted with family, friends, nature and you. So grab some floats and tubes and jump into the lake, sunbathe, read on the deck, play music and board games in front of the stone fireplace, engage in a ping-pong tournament in the family room, create a great meal and enjoy one another, relax by the fire pit and roast some marshmallows, ice fish, cross country ski or take a walk and look at the stars or the wildlife.
Offically Designated No Stress Zone: The cabin is perfect for a romantic weekend, family gatherings, women’s or men’s get-togethers and spiritual or business retreats. Or come for a solo retreat and stoke-up your batteries. Located one mile from Hatfield, Wisconsin and 11 miles from Black River Falls, Wisconsin, the area looks like the “North Woods,” just closer! The cabin is approximately 2 1/2 hrs. from Minneapolis and Saint Paul, 3 hrs. from Milwaukee, 4 1/2 hrs. from Chicago, 2 hrs. from Madison, 1 hr and 15 minutes from the Dells. One mile away is Lake Arbutus, an 839-acre lake with boat and jet-ski rentals, boat ramps, picnic areas, beaches and playgrounds and an indoor roller skating ring. Discover treasures at the local Flea Market/Craft Show.
Great recreation on site or near by: There are loads of recreational activities available during all four seasons without ever having to get into your car. Just walk out the front door. Buckhorn Lake is across our road and is connected to a canal, linked to other lakes and the Black River. You can canoe, kayak, swim, fish, bike (we have a canoe, two-person kayak and bikes on site) and cross country ski or snowshoe for hours without ever having to get in your car. So throw your car keys away for a while and technology (if you can) and get to know your spouse, family and/or friends or even yourself better.
Don't worry about bad weather: Majestic Pines Casino is nearby, as is a affordable movie theater and antiquing and an affordable fitness center which includes a swimming pool/whirlpool and dry sauna; fitness room ,gymnasium 2 racquetball courts, and a 125 meter suspended walking/running track available. An indoor and outdoor water park is just 1/2 hr away.

About Leah Dobkin
My husband, with a little help from me, my son and some friends, built our log cabin over a two- year period. We bought the ten-inch logs from a local man who builds log cabins and owns a lumberyard. The logs were harvested from this man’s sustainable forest. We tried to incorporate recycled and reused materials as well as new green products, such as radiant-heat bamboo flooring. We are just starting to rent the cabin. We hope to find vacationers that will respect and appreciate all the hard work that went into creating the log cabin. We are told by family and friends that the place has wonderful karma. I am a writer and over a one-month period, I wrote a book at the cabin, which will be published shortly. My husband renovates old properties and sells or rents them and is an energy auditor.
Leah Dobkin purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Leah Dobkin chose Hatfield
We bought land here because we wanted a place that we can get to for the weekend that wasn't a long drive, but looked like the North Woods. We have had a camper on the property for a number of years, and have spent wonderful times in the region. We can share information about great hiking trails, where to eat and shop etc. The Black River region is not as well-known as the “North Woods,” but it is closer, less congested and beautiful. My husband loves to come up just to smell the pines and watch the wildlife. We hope you will love the region too!
What makes this Cabin unique
There are so many choices of activities to do without getting in your car. It's so nice to drive-up and stay put. We try to keep the place a no electronic zone, although it is not easy. When we do however, we end-up reading more, playing cards and enjoy quiet thinking time, which is often elusive in our busy lives.

Beautiful setting inside and out.
We loved our stay at the cabin with our grown daughters and fiancée! The fire kept us warm while we played board games, ping pong, and read. We even snowshoed over to the lake. We had all that we needed for a relaxing getaway.
I too love how I can snow shoe and cross country ski right from the cabin and not have to get in a car. There is cross country ski groomed trails and a down hill ski center and tubing hill close by which are also fun. So happy you had a toasty time in our cabin even. I know how cold it was outside even though I am in Florida now. Can you believe it? I miss the snow. I guess sometime the grass is greener and that may not be a good thing :) Leah
We loved the cabin. It was very clean and comfortable. It was a great place to have Thanksgiving. Everything was well organized and easy to find there. Thank you so much!!
Friends Quilting Weekend
The weekend was fabulous!! Love getting away for a few days with friends. Cozy cabin with all the amenities!!
Decent cabin but lake across the street
I will say that I was a little misled by some of the photos. The lake, which was incredibly low on water, was actually across the street, with little to no beach area. The fire pit was in the back. So our visions of sitting around a fire by the lake were very inaccurate. Also, this cabin is not remote, meaning that neighbors are about 30 yards away. Not private at all. It's located in a small subdivision with many other homes. The mattresses were not ideal as some seemed to have been slept on for years by a 400 pound person. The house was clean, to a point, but not at all cleaned to my standards. In this case, you get what you pay for. The price was right and the wood burning stove was fantastic.
Everyone has a right to their opinion, but I feel compelled to challenge the misinformation saturated in this review. First, I would like to make the overall point that we have, to date, received 73 guest reviews that rated the cabin and their vacation as “Excellent,” in fact the average was 4.7 out of five. When this particular guest (the 74th review) gave us a 3, we were dismayed and scratched our heads as to how their reality could be so different from everyone else’s. More importantly, what was said about our cabin by our other guests filled our hearts. We were making so many people happy resulting in memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
We also scratched our heads as to the many misperceptions of this guest. We speak to everyone before they rent a to answer their questions, give them updates and get better acquainted. We speak again to everyone before they head up to give another opportunity to answer questions and provide updates. We have notified everyone about the breach in the canal causing the lake levels to fluctuate and tell them the latest on the situation. Our written description of the lake says, “Buckhorn Lake is across our road and is connected to a canal, linked to other lakes and the Black River.” We never said that we were lakefront. Nor did we say we had a beach. I explain to our future guests that there is a public access road across the street where you can put the boats in and fish. We never indicated that the fire pit was on the lake, in fact, we tell our guests that there is a trail behind our cabin that takes you to the fire pit.
No we do not have many neighbors. So this comment is bizarre. We are surrounded by pine trees. We have one neighbor on one side about 60 yards away with pine trees between us, not thirty. There is also a neighbor, kitty corner across our street. We have about thirty lots on our road and there are only about ten houses. The rest do not have any houses. It is not complete wilderness, but I would not say there are “many houses.”
People have often written and emailed me how comfortable the beds are, so I have no clue why this person didn’t think the beds were comfortable. If they were expecting beds from a five star hotel, then that’s what they should have opted for. This is a log cabin, for goodness sake. The reviewer said the house was clean, but not up to her standards. Again I am very proud of my housekeeper, and again this is a cabin, not a five star hotel.
Great, peaceful location for a getaway
Our group had a great time. It had everything we needed for 4 guys on a fishing trip. Beds were comfy and it had everything needed for a good time. The only thing we didn't care for was the stinky water.
Beautiful, spacious cabin
We had plenty of space for our extended family of eleven. The cabin was well supplied with games, books, linens, cookware and more. The kids loved walking the sandy trail to the fire pit at the back of the property at night carrying their flashlights. Good memories.
