A beautiful penthouse with 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms , a living room and kitchen /dining room and a large outdoor terrace with bar and BBQ . You will love our oceanfront condo on the boulevard of Kralendijk, within walking distance to restaurants , grocery stores and the main tourist street (Kaya Grandi).
The condo has over 1700 sqft ( 160m2) including the outdoor living spaces . You will have a shaded area to relax outside or you can choose to sunbathe on the lounge chairs . Of course, many days you may end up watching the sunset from the bar .
We have been told many times by guests :”this must be the best view and location in Bonaire “ . Please read the reviews .The penthouse has everything one can wish for : walking distance to the beach in front of the unit and to the next door diving operator and to the famous Karel's pier -Bonaire’s one and only above the water bar and restaurant.
The condo has a firsthand view of the coming and going of the yachts that visit Bonaire and the cruise ships will pass directly in front of you .The security is excellent , a gate key is needed to enter the premises and the entry door is the only door on our floor level. The property is fully airconditioned , a rarity in Bonaire , but trade winds and ceiling fans will allow comfortable sleeping without airco’s in some seasons ,also because the property is fully screened against mosquito's. We ourselves usually start the living area A/C after sunset and the bedroom airco's an hour before retiring . During the day we enjoy the tradewinds which make the penthouse very comfortable , even without A/C.
We believe this is a premier place in Bonaire and we would not trade with anyone else because each morning we enjoy the view of the turquoise waters , the beaches of Klein Bonaire across and the distant view of the mountainous area of Bonaire in the Washington Park preserve. You can also on occasion see dolphin pods pass by while sipping your morning coffee(s) .
In the evening, we enjoy a cool drink –the local Amstel beer is called “Bright” and we rate the sunsets by assigning a number of Brights . A five Bright evening as shown in the photo is the best sunset you can experience in the Caribbean. Fortunately there are many great sunsets …

We have recently completed a remodeling of the guest bedroom, see photo. We now have room for 5 persons because the Master Bedroom still has the King sized bed , but the second (guest) bedroom has a queen sized bed and a twinXL ( single) bed . This may help to accommodate families with children.

We emigrated from Holland to the USA in 1968 ; one of us is Dutch , one changed to US citizenship. The family is fond of diving , so we have visited Bonaire since 1988 and after vacationing in other Caribbean diving resorts we selected Bonaire as the best choice. After we retired we purchased this condo.

Bonaire is a mix of Dutch , American and Lt American influences . Low crime rates and friendly people were important factors for us to choose Bonaire , besides the diving.
We walk to the town , to shopping , to restaurants . In the USA we have to drive 3 miles to the nearest store, so this location is a totally different experience . There is a parking lot for our rental car, but we don't drive every day . Relaxed living and enjoying the cultural sights and sounds of Bonaire , makes us come back 3 times a year.
What to say about Nautical Nest. Well first of all Herman and Augusta, the owners were great. they provided every information we ask for and more. then on arrival Karin het caretaker provided the housetour and informed us about the appartement. she even provided some first neccesaries, like bread, tea, jelly, white wine, nuts etc. because we arrives late in the evening. she left a telephone in the apartment so if we need to contact anybody we could do so. the appartement was better than described and seen on the photo's. 3x AC, 1 in every bathroom and 1 in the living room. in every room there was a ceiling fan, even outside on the large deck. on this deck we had our beers and cocktails every afternoon and evening, looking at the Port of Kralendijk, with her sailing boats, yachts, etc. In the morning we had breakfast on the small balcony in front of the living room overseeing the water. Best view was to see a cruise ship lying in port, and see the business in Kralendijk. we never had trouble going to sleep because there was noise. Yes of course there is a route in front of the appartement and yes It rains fishes, a restaurant sits besides you, but after 11.00pm it all quiets down and the hole town goes to sleep. the appartement is just 100 - 200m from centre of town with all of the restaurants, shops etc. which is very convenient. For a supermarket (van der Tweel or Warehouse) you need a car, but we rented one so no deal. we needed the car also to visit many of the snorkeling spots, washington Slagbaai the national parc, and to visit Sorobon. small Bonaire is also a great place to visit, for snorkeling, diving or just sitting on the beach. the ferry to this island is just in front of the appartement. O yes we loved the place and we will come back some time to snorkel and relax. Herman, Augusta and Karin we thank you again for this beautiful vacation experience.

We stayed for a week over Christmas, and everything went great. The local manager, Karin, met us at the apartment and showed us how everthing worked, and made sure we had what we needed. The penthouse is very well equipped and has everything that you will need, including a cell phone with Karin's number in case you need to get in contact with her. We didn't though, as everything went smoothly. We used the barbeque grill on the deck several times, and what a great view overlooking the water. Just a short walk to the center of town, with plenty of bars and restaraunts nearby. If you are diving, Karin gave us a 20% discount coupon for all our diving with Dive Friends Bonaire. Herman, the owner, was good to work with via email during the booking process. As a previous poster mentioned there was some noise, but it most definitely was not a problem. This will be where we stay again the next time we rerurn to Bonaire.

What I liked: the apartment is nicely decorated. It is very roomy. The bedrooms are big and spacious. The kitchen is well appointed. It is perfectly located, walking distance to town and restaurants. The apartment manager is very friendly and helpful
What I did not like: It is extremely noisy. No earplugs no sleep.There is a very big terrace but unless you are a sun worshipper it is not possible to use the terrace after 1:30 PM because it is in full sun until sunset. There is no safe place to park your rental car ( two wheels of my rental where stolen in the building's parking lot 2 days after I got it)
The penthouse was everything I had hoped it would be plus more! It was like home away from home with the added bonus of fabulous views! Augusta and everyone from VanEps Property Management were a pleasure to work with and made the reservation, arrival and departure process smooth and worry free.
Bonaire has become my birthday destination three years running. I would love to stay at the "Nautical Nest" again next August! Danki Augusta!!

During the planning stages of our trip Herman was very helpful with all the questions that I asked. The condo itself was great. It was everything that we hoped for after reading all of the previous reviews. The noise from the street was loud at times, but we adapted. Other than the IPOD docking station speakers (they were in bad shape) everything else was in fine working order. We really liked how close it was to downtown and the many restaurants. We didn't have a car the entire 2 weeks, but we did alot of walking (we had to wear off all of the Amstel Brights we consumed) so it made it much easier, especially at night. As in all of our vacations, the time went by too fast. I would not hesitate to rent this condo in the future. Thanks again Herman!
The condo is located on the Ocean Boulevard , very close to the center of Kralendijk . The small town of Kralendijk prides itself in only one over the water restaurant/bar called Karel's and it is a 3 minute walk along the ocean. Furthermore many of the best restaurants are located along this waterfront and all are walking distance . Need to buy souvenirs? The Kaya Grandi (= big street ) has many stores with all kinds of souvenirs. On days when a cruise boat is in the harbor , there are many more souvenir vendors to tempt the passengers debarking from the cruise boat .
Need groceries , you can walk it in 5 minutes but you may prefer to take the car rather than carrying back all that beer :).
Full service Dive shops are located both North and South along the Boulevard . You can store equipment overnight at these facilities so you don't have to carry it to the condo. Most divers visiting Bonaire love the shore diving experience when you can just walk in and plunge down along the wall . No need to pay for boat excursions except if you want to dive along Klein Bonaire . Since you need a car for shore diving , you can take it into the national park covering 1/2 of Bonaire : the Washington Park . The drive through the park can be interesting after a rain shower, since the roads are not paved :a 4 wheel drive car is then required.
One should also take a kayak tour through the mangrove forests ; very interesting to see the birthplace of many of the tropical fishes one can encounter on the reefs around Bonaire .
If all that sounds tiresome , the Windsurf Place on the east Coast ( a 15 minute drive ) will offer total relaxation with sun , wind , local snacks , sangria and many easy chairs to catch the sun.
A Great time can be had in Bonaire but the nightlife is minimal , no disco's , a few late-night bars but no swinging night clubs , just easy living .
