About Augusta or Herman Amelink
We emigrated from Holland to the USA in 1968 ; one of us is Dutch , one changed to US citizenship. The family is fond of diving , so we have visited Bonaire since 1988 and after vacationing in other Caribbean diving resorts we selected Bonaire as the best choice. After we retired we purchased this condo.
Augusta or Herman Amelink purchased this Condo in 2006
Why Augusta or Herman Amelink chose Playa
Bonaire is a mix of Dutch , American and Lt American influences . Low crime rates and friendly people were important factors for us to choose Bonaire , besides the diving.
What makes this Condo unique
We walk to the town , to shopping , to restaurants . In the USA we have to drive 3 miles to the nearest store, so this location is a totally different experience . There is a parking lot for our rental car, but we don't drive every day . Relaxed living and enjoying the cultural sights and sounds of Bonaire , makes us come back 3 times a year.

Best view on the island and a great unit
We loved our stay at the nest. Truly, this has to be one of the best views on the island. The unit itself was well maintain, had quality appliances, upgraded bathrooms and comfortable bedrooms. It's location downtown cannot be beat with easy walking distance to food and shops The local manager, Karin, was a delight to work with and incredibly responsive when we had a small emergency.
Now the heads up. These are not complaints, but more things you should be aware of:
1. It is downtown. That means that there is noise. No, not urban city noises but regular street noise.
2. Similarly, being next to It Rains Fishes is great, but you do get noise and smells from the restaurant and you can hear the garbage and recycling pick up in the early morning.
3. Being downtown also means no onsite parking. There is parking on city spots on the block behind the building which usually works. On the weekend with Bobojans is open you may need to wait for an opening.
4. Finally, the unit is on the third floor. There is no elevator which means stairs. Having a neuromuscular disorder made that challenging sometimes, but didn't stop our enjoying the unit.
We cannot say enough positive things about the nest. Everything including a very reasonable price makes it a great unit on the island.
Glad you liked the home Curt.
Your observations about the the location are all true. We are located in the center of Kralendijk and that means there will be street noises etc.
We knew that when we bought this condo , but after renting homes in Sabadeco where we felt isolated and disliked the long drive to shopping and Kralendijk restaurants , we bought in Club Nautico .
It is a different choice , but we are never bored looking at the island's activities that unfold daily : fishing vessels departing and arriving , cruise ships arriving with associated activities and traffic .
We enjoy our vacations there , but we understand other rental choices can be more suitable if you prefer a quiet stay.
Nautical Nest July 4 week
We love the place as we have stayed there before. The biggest issue this time was the dust from the building behind us ... very heavy and noisy early in the morning. Hope they have it completed before our return. Mike Sale
As noted in another review , we are sorry for the dust caused by the construction of the new building .
Next year when you return the new building will be done and the peace will have returned .
Also next year remind us that we owe you a discount !

Great Location! Amazing deal.
We stayed at the Nautical Nest from June 19 through June 28, 2019. This was our first trip to Bonaire, and we would love to come back! The communication with Karin was phenomenal, and she went out of her way to help us at every turn. She was so easy to reach and open to all questions and concerns we had. We learned so much from her in the short time we had. The property is located right on the main road in front of the ocean. This does lead to it being somewhat noisier than other places we've stayed, but we understood what we were signing up for and the noise was not a problem. You are so close to restaurants (and believe me, Bonaire has some of the best we have ever eaten at for the price). Additionally, you can walk to shops, the museum, coffee shops, ice cream, and the list goes on. There is no better place to be at sunset than on the porch of this property. There is a pool that is easily accessible behind the restaurant right next door, and it is virtually unused but extremely clean and lovely. I can't say enough about this property, it is such a deal. We were just a couple using it, but it easily could accommodate more guests with the 2nd bedroom and couch. The only drawback there is, for those folks who sit home all day, is the construction going on directly behind the property. We were rarely home during the day, so the only inconvenience was the excessive dust, which could not be helped. We would much rather have had the breeze and the dust as the apartment was kept cool from the breeze. We did use the AC in the bedroom at night. The construction is scheduled to be done in December, so it won't go on forever! We actually chuckled often listening to the workers in the morning, as it always sounded like they were mad at each other but they were just working and having fun. We really did not concern ourselves with it, but if you are very sensitive and not prone to interruptions, then be forewarned. Also, the property is on the 3rd floor, and not for handicapped. Lastly, all appliances were great, and the grill was used also while we were there. There are just so many amenities to the Nautical Nest that it is well worth the trip and the price. Thank you Karin for all of your help!
Thanks for your review .
It perfectly reflected the location and the amenities of our vacation home.
We were there in March of this year and the dust caused by the construction of the new building going up behind us was not that bad yet .
Now it seems to be worse and we are sorry. But as stated , the condo's will
be ready by December so perhaps the dust will decrease soon when the builder is working inside to finish the condo's.
Remind us to get you a rate discount when you return next year !

We had a great time staying in this condo! The view was amazing and plenty of room to hang and dry all of our dive gear each night! The location is perfect for walking to all the shops and restaurants downtown. Every morning I enjoyed a peaceful walk to get a cappuccino. A great way to start the day!
The condo is located on the Ocean Boulevard , very close to the center of Kralendijk . The small town of Kralendijk prides itself in only one over the water restaurant/bar called Karel's and it is a 3 minute walk along the ocean. Furthermore many of the best restaurants are located along this waterfront and all are walking distance . Need to buy souvenirs? The Kaya Grandi (= big street ) has many stores with all kinds of souvenirs. On days when a cruise boat is in the harbor , there are many more souvenir vendors to tempt the passengers debarking from the cruise boat .
Need groceries , you can walk it in 5 minutes but you may prefer to take the car rather than carrying back all that beer :).
Full service Dive shops are located both North and South along the Boulevard . You can store equipment overnight at these facilities so you don't have to carry it to the condo. Most divers visiting Bonaire love the shore diving experience when you can just walk in and plunge down along the wall . No need to pay for boat excursions except if you want to dive along Klein Bonaire . Since you need a car for shore diving , you can take it into the national park covering 1/3 of Bonaire : the Washington Park . The drive through the park can be interesting after a rain shower, since the roads are not paved :a 4 wheel drive car is then required.
One should also take a kayak tour through the mangrove forests ; very interesting to see the birthplace of many of the tropical fishes one can encounter on the reefs around Bonaire .
If all that sounds tiresome , the Windsurf Place on the east Coast ( a 15 minute drive ) will offer total relaxation with sun , wind , local snacks , sangria and many easy chairs to catch the sun.
A Great time can be had in Bonaire but the nightlife is minimal , no disco's , a few late-night bars but no swinging night clubs , just easy living .
