I never stayed at this property even though I made this reservation and paid the deposit 14 months before our trip. An hour before we were to check in, I received a message from the property owner requesting I call her. I tried calling twice, but it went to voicemail, however, the voicemail box was full so I could not leave a message. She called back a few minutes later to let me know the property was double booked and we could not stay there. Instead, she had secured the neighboring property for us to stay in. She informed me it had one fewer bedroom and no infinity pool- there were some of the reasons we booked the original property. She offered to adjust the price accordingly. Keep in mind, by this time we had fully paid for this rental. We were traveling in a foreign country and needed a place to stay, so we went to see the neighboring property. We ended up staying there. It was not bad, but it was not what we booked. It lacked a bedroom, didn’t have the infinity pool, and also did not include the daily housekeeping the original home did. The property owner then stopped responding to my messages (all sent thru the VRBO app) requesting details on how she would compensate us for the differences in the home. This truly felt like a bait and switch. I have notified VRBO corporate and they are looking into the situation. This experience really put a stain on an otherwise wonderful trip to South Africa.
