Peaceful, beautiful retreat.

  • 5 of 5

While it's fun to weave thru the crowds and galleries in Santa Fe, especially at the Farmers Market, nothing beats retreating to the peace and quiet of Jean's place. The stars at night are magnificent and the morning light thru the aspen unbeatable. Everything in the house feels like home. We loved our stay. Thank you Jean.

Retreat in the high desert is a dream!

  • 5 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed my month-long stay in Lamy thanks to my amazing hostess, Jean, and a perfectly appointed space. The cottage is truly lovely and has all the amenities you might need for an extended stay. It's location in Lamy, a quaint, quiet town, is ideal and Jean did a wonderful job of being available, yet offering me the privacy and solitude I was seeking. A perfect perch from which to experience all that Santa Fe / NM has to offer, if you want to stay in a creative, comfortable home, don't look any further!

A Real Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was comfortable, uncluttered and extremely inviting. We luxuriated in the superb bed, aspens rustling in the breeze, a heavenly patio, and a fully stocked kitchen to cook in. We loved it! It is the perfect peaceful retreat for a busy couple to unwind and rest. We hope to be back soon!

Unforgettable and a must stay.

I'm going to fall short of words here, so please forgive me. Jean was incredibly attentive and helpful even prior to our journey, by making sure to give us directions that would save us an hour of drive time.

We arrived to the sweetest little compound just after dark. The parking area was well lit and there were lights guiding us up a path to our new found home away from home. Although they are beautiful, the pictures don't do this space justice (sorry Marc). We walked into an incredibly spacious guesthouse, a gorgeous fireplace and the warmth of so many things. We truly felt like we were part of Lamy's history and home because of all of the wonderful amenities. This is a space that words and photography can't capture, you just have to show up, be present and take it all in.

We're beyond grateful for our experience and the shared memories with this family, they are now part of our chosen tribe. Not only was a fantastic hike recommended, but we were also welcomed into their home, shared a lot of laughter and conversation. We even brought in the New Year over an amazing supper that Jean cooked.

We miss everyone, look forward to getting back and being greeted by the sweetest Bella aka the compound mascot. It truly has been our favorite vacation and a great way to start our year.

Thank you for hosting such a sweet space, welcoming us, we've now extended our family effortlessly. Please hug each other for us.

Sending love from Texas,

The Yarto Family

Can't wait to return!

Want a place to relax? A place where you can hear the birds sing, watch the rabbits feeding on the grass outside the window, drink your morning coffee on the portal as the breeze winds its way through the orchard and the aspens. A place full of books and magazines, of large comfortable sofas and chairs. Yet so very close to all that Santa Fe and northern New Mexico offers. During our week's stay, my wife and I took day trips to Madrid and the San Marcos Café, to the plaza and farmers' market in Santa Fe, to the small towns and art colonies on the high road to Taos, and to the train ride in Chama. On alternating days we simply stayed in the guesthouse, enjoying the tranquility.

The owner is accommodating, informative, and welcoming. Before we arrived she gave us all the information we needed: how to get to the compound and where to stop for groceries. She personally met us when we arrived to show us the property and reminded us to contact her if we needed anything. One afternoon after we returned from a day trip, she invited us over for a glass of wine and graciously showed us her charming home, the oldest one in the compound.

It is such a beautiful setting, seemingly away from everything, but close to grocery stores, restaurants and coffee shops, drug stores and boutiques. When we left after our week's stay, we immediately wished we had reserved Nxai's Place for a month. We intend to return soon.

Extended stay

  • 5 of 5

“You have fallen into a box of chocolates”, remarked a friend from Santa Fe who joined us for dinner one night at Nxai’s Place. After a wonderful seasonal experience there, we had been lucky enough to arrange for an extended stay. Indeed, from the the high ceiling main room chock full of books, to the serene adobe wall bedroom, to the the calming portal rimmed with buzzing hummingbirds, Nxai’s Place delivers a memorably sweet experience. And you may find yourself on that portal one morning, with coffee, when the sound of a train stopping at the Lamy Station awakens all your romantic buttons. Santa Fe? We forgot we were even nearby when a stay here, and high desert hiking trails five minutes away, offer up such a unique way to experience northern New Mexico. My comment on the host Zunkel/Romanelli family, past how their interesting lives may contribute to your stay, is simply to say that their family is now my family. This is the essence of a home away.
