One of a kind experience
The property is huge! It has the luxury of its own private lagoon, and the lagoon contains many species of tropical fish and even turtles! It's also in a gated community, and the property has its own gate on top. You feel quite secure when you stay there. The property also has a lot of gears that you can use, from flippers to snorkeling gear, kayak, etc. The lagoon has geothermal spots here and there so it's not cold to swim in. There are also coconut trees all over the property and with the owner's permission, you can experience picking coconuts off the trees (some of them are really low that you don't need ladders)
The rooms are a bit less than what we expected. There's no AC. The sea breeze cools down the house so you don't really need the temperature control. It's more the moisture level. If you are expecting to have similar environment to a typical hotel room, this is not like that, but it's not too bad. Lighting in the rooms (including common areas) is not the greatest. We stayed in the master bedroom so it was nice. The room in the octagon structure is obviously an add on. The wall does not go all the way up the truss, so the friend who stayed in that room complains about sea breeze being a bit chilly in the middle of the night. This room is also not properly sealed so rain water on balcony would seep into the room.
The other thing about the property is it's location. It's so far southeast that it's about 45 min to Hilo, and also far from other attractions. If you stay here, be prepared to enjoy the attractions nearby, or else you would be doing a lot of driving. There are tidepools, beaches, lava tree park, etc, all within 30 min drive. This is definitely a property that you would stay if you want to stay away from towns and cities and just relax, but if you want to dine out here and there or go shopping from time to time, this property would be a bit far from the activity centers.
Overall, it's a unique experience living on such a large property with your private lagoon. I would still recommend it to anyone who's looking for a nice getaway from everything.
We had a lovely stay at this property. It's like living in your own 17 acre oasis. The images on the site don't do the property justice! We went snorkeling or kayaking every day. There are turtles in many of the tide pools, and lots of fish. The manager was very friendly and gave us a quick tour when we got there. We also bumped into the owner (and her dog Lucky) the next day. She gave us many helpful tips on which ponds were the best for snorkeling. We had fun with the basketball court, and my son loved chasing the geckos along the patio. Was beautiful and tranquil to sit at one of the outdoor tables at sunrise or sunset, or just to do some reading. Fun to walk around the property and go exploring. Lots of various snorkeling gear, washer/dryer (with a line to hang stuff on to dry - been so long since I've done that!) and assorted other bits and bobs available to borrow from the property. Interior spaces were very nice - certainly big enough for the 8 of us. Our only notes would be if the owners could patch up the holes in the double kayak (it's REALLY hard to get out of the water once it's taken some water on), though it's super cool to have kayaks to go around in the ponds. Also a hammock would be amazing! But that is a little thing. We would definitely rent there again - lovely lovely time.
Beautiful and peaceful
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful peaceful property. Watching the sunrise in the morning was perfection. The property and home were well maintained and the manager was kind, helpful and flexible. We would recommend this home and we would go back again. The only reason I did not give it five stars was because the towels, some of the blankets, and the sofa bed were a little tired and worn.
Gorgeous home in a stunning location
We had a great stay at Grant's home. The snorkeling and kayaking ponds were great and we spent a lot of time in the water. The house itself is beautiful as well and was great for the 4 couples we stayed with. We didn't realize there wasn't air conditioning and were a little worried about it when we arrived, but with the windows open it ended up being fine-just make sure you close them in the rain or water comes pouring in. We absolutely loved it and would recommend the house to other groups coming to enjoy the relaxing beauty of Hawaii!
Loved the property!
Days of Heaven
My family and I came together here over spring break to vacation on the east side of the big island. While researching the various vacation homes for rent we were all intrigued by this property. When we finally agreed that this was the place, we had high expectations given the pictures and great reviews. When we arrived, we surveyed the property in absolute awe. We never could've imagined the true beauty of this sanctuary, and surely, no pictures or words could ever describe the full magnitude of the experience.
The property is absolutely stunning and extremely private. It is literally your own exclusive resort. The views of the ocean and sunset are breathtaking. The paths and meandering trails around the perimeter are ideal for an easy morning stroll, or a late evening's star gaze. There is also plenty of hiking in the area for more serious excursions. One of the best features of the property, aside from the home itself, are the 3 amazing lagoons...absolutely stunning. The kayaks are ready to jump in and paddle out at a moments notice, and the local family of sea turtles are often there waiting to greet you.
Inside the gated community are the famous hot springs, which offer a natural, therapeutic soothing of the soul. Highly recommended. Also, the snorkeling in the area is outstanding. Within ONE mile of the property are the tide pools, which boast the best snorkeling on the east side of the big island. It was simply amazing and we snorkeled there daily for hours. The amount of stunning marine life was overwhelming and it was an experience my children and I will cherish forever. I should also mention that the house had a wonderful chest full of snorkel gear, water shoes, and fins. This was great for the 5 kids we had with us, as we didn't have to rent any gear.
In closing I would also like to recognize the wonderful home itself. There were 11 of us total and everyone was accommodated without feeling crowded. The expansive wood deck is amazing and is perfectly positioned for evening sunsets and midnight star gazing. The rooms are beautiful and the home is a wonderful wood tribute to the classic architectural style. Not to mention, the wonderful amenities. There wasn't a thing this place didn't have and it was all top of the line.
In summary, I have been to the Hawaiian Islands 5 times and this was, BY FAR, the best experience I have ever had in Hawaii. Maybe one of the best vacations ever. A once in a lifetime experience.
