The Lodge and the Cabin are the guest quarters for the historic Rio Ynez Ranch, an 85-acre horse ranch in Santa Ynez. Previously, these two houses were only available to guests of the owner, including many storied personalities. Now you can share in the total privacy--- while only 5 minutes from downtown Santa Ynez, 10 to Los Olivos. Stroll 100 paces and sit at the edge of the Santa Ynez River and listen to the landscape of birdsong. Sit on the sprawling deck with a glass of local wine and ponder the uninterrupted panorama of mountains. Swing on a hammock in the orchard and read. You won’t see a sign of civilization during your stay. Furnished with a mixture of antiques and rare rustic furniture.
2017 Update: The Lodge has been redone: new paint, floors, marble kitchen counters, new French doors; the deck has been extended and a beautiful new outdoor fireplace and seating area have been built.
The kitchen in the Lodge is fully equipped for you to cook a fine meal, but the restaurants of Santa Ynez are only moments away, wineries too numerous to mention.
The Lodge has one King Bedroom, Two Queen Bedrooms and Two Full Baths. The Cabin has One King Bed and one Full Bathroom.
THE LODGE AND THE CABIN DO NOT RENT SEPARATELY AS THEY ARE IN SUCH CLOSE PROXIMITY. THE CABIN IS LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED FEET FROM THE LODGE, IT IS CONNECTED BY A LIGHTED PAVED PATH. Many guests of the ranch say the Cabin is their favorite spot on the ranch. It has been a honeymoon cottage. One couple was engaged in the cabin. It is very romantic and peaceful. And the bathroom in the cabin is the nicest on the ranch with a large claw-foot tub.
WE MUST LIMIT THE NUMBER OF GUESTS TO EIGHT TOTAL. ON HOLIDAY WEEKENDS PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THREE DAY BOOKINGS.
My friends and I loved the ranch. It was very tasteful in its design and just moments from solvang and the wineries. I’d recommend getting instructions to finding the ranch ahead of time especially if you’re arrivinv at night like us. Also, we did notice a slight septic tank smell coming from the back bedroom but I’m sure this is an easy fix.
Everything was great! We couldn't have been happier with our stay!
We are a family of 5 plus Grandma and Grandpa who visited the home for a short weekday visit to the valley. We found the home comfortable and well appointed with the charm of a modern cabin. The views of the stars was amazing as reported by others. But there were some things others might want to know.
The location is a bit more off the beaten path than expected. It's down a step (trecherous?) drive and in the floodplain of a dry riverbed. The river is dammed, so water only flows when it's opened at scheduled times. Definitely ask about it if you plan to get wet. Our bathing suits stayed dry.
The roads around the house are gravel over fine dusty dirt. Everything that goes outside will be dusty. The spacious dry-grass fields look inviting, but are off limits to avoid the critters. This limits any outdoor activity to the gravel drives and patio, save a small patch of grass where the swing is located a few hundred yards walk from the house.
The additional small bed/bath cabin is "neat" but certainly has some age. Although nicely decorated inside, it had the stale smell of a hot attic even after a full day with the windows open and the ceiling fan on. It's hidden in the tree scrub well-removed from the house down a lighted path. But in the pitch black of night with the flickering light switches some may find the location on the creepy side. We left it unused.
Our stay was most likely after a long period of vacancy because we encoutered LOTS of spiderwebs. The house was clean and ready for us, but corners, doors, lamps, all had the typical webs of a woodland cabin. And lets not forget the dead bugs in the tub.
The last thing to mention is the lack of a door lock on the patio. As stated the home looks updated and has a cool decor. However, the new door handles on the patio have no lock. It's not likely you'd feel unsafe as it's a great local comunnity. It's just the principle of not being able to secure the home at night or when you leave.
Overall we enjoyed our stay as the house has everything you could need. But it is not at the level of luxury destination spot that we expected for the rate paid and we left a bit disappointed.
ThIs was our third year at the Ranch. A great place to unwind and share with family and friends. Santa Ynez valley has so much to offer including world class wines, vineyards, tastings and eateries. Owner and staff at the ranch attentive to any issues. Amazing day breaks and sunsets, new patio is truly deluxe with large outdoor fireplace to chill and converse. We look forward to our next visit !
We had 4 couples spend the weekend in this ranch home. While we had a fantastic time wine tasting in the area, the best part of our trip was this house. We got so lucky finding this place. It is the most beautiful rental I have ever stayed in. Rustic with all the charm we wanted. Everyone was so happy to be surrounded by the mountains, a river, and gorgeous open fields. At. At night we would stargaze and we have have never seen a more beautiful starry sky. Shooting stars, the Milky Way, and such beauty! The home owner Andrew was so easy and fun to work with. We had a last minute need to bring a dog along and he was totally fine with it. We would all happily return to this place. Oh and the beds were super comfy and uber was able to find it even though the place seems so remote and private. Do not hesitate to rent this place if you are lucky enough to make it to the Santa ynez valley!!
This property offers a wonderful getaway! From the wrap around porch all you can see are the surrounding hills. We stayed at both the ranch and the cabin ( a separate bedroom/master bath, unfortunately there is no air conditioning in the cabin). The property was clean and the owner, as well as Dave, the Ranch Manager offered great service. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a special and unique property. In addition, the owner provided great suggestions on dining and other activities..
The Santa Ynez Valley is famous for its wineries and unspoiled pastoral vistas. There are fine restaurants and humble cowboy bars. Enjoy Cachuma Lake, bicycling, golf, gliding, hiking, horseback riding, or just hanging out. Santa Barbara with it's beaches and many diversions is 30 minutes away. There are several quaint shopping districts between Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Solvang. Just two hours from Los Angeles, the Santa Ynez Valley is the perfect weekend getaway.
