This private and secluded property located minutes from Roatan International Airport (RTB) sits in an area plush with flowers and a wide variety of fruit trees, steps from the beach, ocean and our dock, as well as the Sundancer pool. Imagine secluded beaches with no vendors hawking trinkets, no elbow to elbow tourists, yet the busy beaches can be reached in minutes. On site is the Blue Parrot restaurant and bar (children welcome) Great jerk chicken . Step right out the door to our dock where you can relax, read, visit, swim and snorkle or dive out to the reef. Our area is a protected marine preserve with coral sites all within swimming distance of our dock (fishing with the exception of spear fishing is allowed). The Sundancer pool is a short walk through the lush jungle and is inviting year around. The neighborhood is safe, friendly, our on site manager Vanessa is a neighbor and will arrange airport pick up and drop off at no additional charge (up to 4 people). She can also suggest and help with itenaries of your choice. We have cable TV and free internet but your focus will be the magnificent views and sun/water activities. Our garage has ample snorkeling gear and water toys to enjoy right off the dock, including 2 sea kayaks suitable for snorkeling, fishing or just exploring inside the reef. This area of the reef has one of five cuts in it giving you access to the open sea. The temperature is mild all year long making the sea temperature inviting for year round swimming. Owners and visitors gather on the dock for sunset and drinks while enjoying some of the most beautiful sunsets. You may never want to leave our dock, but if you do, just steps next to us on the beach is Blue Island Divers (blueislanddivers.com) where you can dive (any level), snorkel, boat tour, etc. Also located here is the Salty Mango excellent for breakfast and lunch (mention Peter to Eric the owner or Diana, master diver and you might get special treatment. Sundancer Villas was visualized, built and still loved by Peter, Linda Kuhlmann and Raymond, Terese Defore. We have shared our home with family, friends and visiting renters. We have never had a complaint, but we have had many that returned to visit - many times. The four of us are from the Ft.W., Tx. area - lots of hussle and bustle and we head to the island every chance we get! We hope that if you select this as your vacation spot in the Caribbean that you will enjoy it as much as we all have.
Peter Kuhlmann purchased this house in 2009
Peter and I have travelled extensively looking for just the right place. After our first day on the Island of Roatan we knew we had found our place. We went to Raymond and Terese and raved about this diamond in the rough we had found and they agreed 'Jump on it' and 'Jump on it we did'. Roatan is very affordable, the people are so friendly and the temperature is perfect.
Our house features four decks. One covered deck with table and chairs for enjoying that treehouse feeling, especially when it's raining and you are sitting up in the trees playing cards and having shrimp cocktail. One open deck for grilling along with seating and one small porch upstairs where you can see forever, or so it seems. Also a covered porch facing East perfect for morning coffee or afternoon drinks. Swim, snorkel, divoff the dock, same in West Bay at the Mayan Princess as well as the pool at the Princess or on Sundancer property at the Sundancer Pool.
We spent 2 weeks at Villa Azul with 2 other couples and had a wonderful time! The house was perfect and the location - excellent! Snorkeling the reef was awesome and the turtles were our favorites!! Well, besides Chica, the neighboring dog who is absolutely adorable (and that comes from a non-dog lover!) Peter, the owner, is great to work with and Vanessa is wonderful - helpful and fun!! We enjoyed all the neighbors and return vacationers and really look forward to seeing all of them on our return trip next year! The house had everything we needed and then some. It's easy to get into West End and West Bay and far enough away to be quiet and relaxing! But if you prefer to get a bite to eat at the Blue Parrot, which is just a short walk away, the food is great and the employees are delightful!! Perfect vacation!!
This was our second trip to Roatan and last year we checked out locations on the island that we liked. Then got on Google Earth and VRBO and found a slice of heaven in Villa Azul. We traveled with a good friend and the layout of the house was perfect for us. Bedrooms on two levels afforded us privacy and the spacious layout made time together perfect.
Vanessa was a great help upon arrival taking us for groceries and getting us settled in. She also was there if needed throughout our month stay and as an added bonus has a connection to the Mayan Princess :-) Juan was very gracious and we thoroughly enjoyed our excursion to West Bay, relaxing on the beach, snorkeling and swimming in the beautiful Mayan princess pool.
Almost daily we used our GoPro and videoed the reef which was just a short distance off the pier. The evenings we spent reviewing our videos on the huge flat screen TV. The reef off Villa Azul is fantastic and often there were several dive boats in the vicinity. The sea star garden and the sea turtles were amazing! The fish, squid, octopus and coral were stunning. We are still enjoying the videos at home.
The weather was rainy at times and a big storm blew through but the house was comfortable and very safe. We had plenty of sunny days to swim and explore. The island is very poor but the locals are friendly and helpful. We took collectivas and taxis to get around with the use of the car when we had more to do. Had dinner at Tranquil Seas and Blue Bahia, both excellent. Sandy Bay Pizza was yummy after a busy day. We love to cook and the kitchen was great, well equipped and central to the house. The local fruit/veggie truck came regularly and the fish market provided great shrimp and lobster. The decks provided a view of the sea that is superb.
The house had everything needed for a wonderful stay but I must admit that we watched only one movie, never saw a TV program, went to bed early and got up early and enjoyed every minute. We met some terrific locals and vacationers and marveled at the children who played on the beach, fished and swam without an electronic device in sight. Chicka, the neighbor's dog, was a great beach companion.
This is a place for vacationers who like a bit of adventure, beauty, snorkeling, diving, kayaking and photographing. We love Roatan and look forward to returning.
My wife and I and our two children, ages 9 & 11, spent the Christmas / New Year's week at Villa Azul. We had a wonderful experience, it was just the break we were looking for. Being right on the beach and just a few steps to the dock was perfect. Our kids loved running and playing on the sandy beach and we all spent many hours wandering up and down the beach. The dock is only shared by a few houses and was empty most of the time. We enjoyed morning coffee, books, hammocks and sunsets from the end of the dock. The Villa had all the modern conveniences anyone could want. We spent a few nights with just the windows and ocean breezes, but when needed we also used the individually zoned a/c units which performed great. Most of the time the ocean breeze is all that is wanted. Our favorite things were the two large front porches (one screened and one not). We spent almost every moment out on them, eating meals, reading and playing board games. The other thing that we loved, was the use of two kayaks located in the garage. It was so easy to load up our snorkel gear, paddle out a few yards to the reef out front and see all sorts of sea life. This was our kids first adventure snorkeling and I wanted something easy and accessible, and this fit the need perfectly!
A car is not needed, as it is a short walk to the main road, where a cab can be flagged down within a few minutes. We ate a few meals in the West End and found that area a lot of fun. However, there is a wonderful restaurant just at the end of the drive where it meets the main road and we ate there for a few meals and found it super convenient (about 100 yard walk). We did rent a car for two days just so we could explore on our own and had no trouble navigating the island and finding our way around. We look forward to returning some time in the future, we had a truly enjoyable and peaceful time!
This was our first trip to Roatan, and we are so glad we selected Peter and Linda's house. We were a family of 6 (parents & 4 20+ kids). I would agree with everything previously stated about the house, reef, etc... We really appreciated the water cooler in the house. At the grocery store for $1 we could buy 5 gallons of water and put it on the cooler. We went through 10 gallons and didn't tons of plastic bottles to throw away. Our gang spent a ton of time hanging out on the dock affiliated with this house. There was a covered part where we could hang the 2 hammocks provided with the house. There was an upper deck where the kids sunbathed, and we too snorkeled off the dock daily. We saw turtles, sea rays, lobsters, lots of cool fish, etc... just snorkeling from the dock. There was also a very large floating "tube" that the kids would tie to the dock and hang out on. The dive company we used (Tranquilseas Eco lodge and dive shop) picked us up on the dock for all the dives we did as well. This was super convenient. Vanessa was a great host too! They were just installing the wifi while we were staying there. Having 4 20+ year olds with us, they were grateful for that! When we were too tired to cook, we walked up to the Blue Parrot (approx.2 blks) for dinner. Everyone thought this was one of the best vacations our family has taken. If we are lucky enough to return to Roatan I wouldn't hesitate to rent this house again!
Perfect place at a perfect price, we had a blast, the house was beautiful, great sunsets at the dock, everything was really nice, worth every penny. i highly recommend it.
