About Belinda Meadows
My name is Robert Galliani. I am a 3rd generation San Franciscan. My wife of 23 years and I have three children ages 20, 22 and 24. We happily and very fortunately live in a beautiful place called Marin County California where our lives are intertwined and revolve around our children. We bought The Blackthorne and continually improve it. We invite people to rent it nightly and weekly to experience this unique, one-of-a-kind, hand made home, which we will keep in our family for generations.
Belinda Meadows purchased this House in 2010
Why Belinda Meadows chose Point Reyes Station
In 1975 a friend of mine, who is a Princeton educated engineer and his wife bought a spectacular acre of land next to the Point Reyes National Seashore, halfway between the village of Inverness CA and the town of Point Reyes CA. (1 hour from San Francisco). With the help of master craftsmen, he built a spectacular 4-story wood crafted 'castle' resembling a giant tree house that his wife named 'Blackthorne' after the main character in James Clavell's novel SHOGUN. From 1982 to October 2010 they ran it as a very successful and famous B&B. We bought it because the location is heaven on earth. The house is placed adjacent to a a national park surrounded and minutes from some of the best beaches in the world as well as the quaint town of Point Reyes with its fine restaurants and shops and the village of Inverness. 100,000 acres of national park covered with hiking trails is at our doorstep while Tomales Bay is 8 houses down the street and the city of San Francisco is a one hour drive away.

Blackthorne is amazing
We love the unique setting and ability to have 5 couples converse, eat, and enjoy each other's company both inside and out! The hot tub is a bonus too!
A Mixed Review
The 5 Star Ratings the Blackthorne has received tell you how much guests have enjoyed the property. However, there were a few things we wish we had known before we rented. I would have described the property as 4 bedrooms with 3 baths in a main building with a detached suite with bathroom. The additional 1.5 bathrooms can only be reached by leaving the main building and aren’t really part of the living quarters. They were the public facilities from when Blackthorne was a B & B. The 6th bedroom in the observation turret is unusable by most guests. To reach it from inside the building, you need to climb a spiral staircase with a partial obstruction at the top and enter through a hole in the floor. The bathroom for this room is either on the floor below or outside on the hot tub deck. Either way, you won’t want to need the toilet at night, and it will be inconvenient anytime. The room was not built as a bedroom and merely adding a bed does not turn it into one. The detached suite is really detached. You cannot reach the main building without either climbing a lot of external stairs or entering the first floor from an external staircase and passing through one of the bedrooms to reach the internal staircase. It really feels remote from the living quarters where all your friends and family will be congregating. There is no inside toilet on the main floor where the kitchen, dining room and living room are located. There is a half bath outside. In short, the layout is a bit odd.
We have several tips for cooks. First, the kitchen has no spices other than salt and pepper. Bring whatever you need. Also, we were provided with only 4 coffee filters, one for each morning. We needed more. We set off the smoke detector when we used the oven. We did not burn anything; the detector is very sensitive to cooking fumes. Be sure to use the exhaust fan if you cook.
We had an additional problem that detracted significantly from our enjoyment of the property—we had no heat for most of our 4 days. A maintenance person came twice and got the furnace working each time, but the furnace stopped again as soon as it hit the set temperature and would not start again. Management provided a small space heater which helped but could not heat the large living space. The fireplace is set up to heat the living area, but we could not get it to draw well enough to keep the large logs burning.
This place is beautiful - peaceful, quiet, spacious, quirky and fun. This was our second year here and we just booked it again for a family get away next year. Every we need is here. Easy access to hikes, sweet market down the road (and a pub). Perfection.
Lovely and unique. Well located in the Pt Reyes area. Great for a large group with plenty of room for everyone. Highly recommended.
