Duck Duck Goose is a serene retreat that allows its guest to be completely ensconced in the traditional Maine way of life. This recently built carriage house, tucked away in the Maine woods, sits on the edge of Duck Cove, overlooking Blue Hill Bay and all of its lovely islands. The privacy and beauty allow for quiet walks along the rocky coast beach, sitting on the private dock viewing a delightful sunrise or sunset, and viewing stars that can only be seen in the Maine skies. Located on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island allows for seclusion and reflection while still having the small towns within comfortable driving distance. Acadia National Park makes up the island of MDI and is a short drive away. The mountains to hike, roads to bike, and water to paddle or boat, make this location more special than most. This quaint carriage home was just built in August 2012 and offers a comfortable, warm cottage feeling with all the makings of your own home. The first floor living space includes your entry, laundry, full bath, family room and bedroom with two double beds, not to mention three sets of lovely French doors never leaving you without a view of the water. The second floor invites you to its grand living/dining space with overhead loft and open kitchen, allowing all guests to be near. There are also two bedroom on this floor, one with queen bed and the other with 2 twins. The bathroom provides a soaking tub, a separate shower, a private loo and forest views. Every room has dimmed lighting, comfortable seating, water views and immaculate furnishings. The dining table hosts 8 all the while taking in the ocean breezes and the beautiful outdoors. Not one stone was left unturned. While relaxing in the warm comforts indoors, you will still want to find your way outdoors. Along the carriage home leading to the water is a lovely forest trail which includes a fireside retreat as well as ocean front dining. Enjoy your cocktails listening to the tide wash up on the rocks, or build a fire and grab your marshmallows to roast. Further enjoy a wonderful private dock where you can sunbathe, enjoy your morning coffee or put your boat into the water and go for a paddle. It's hard to decide where you want to be, inside or out, but this Maine carriage home awaits your company.

***** A three car garage on the first floor of the cottage is an owner's garage and is not accessible for renters use. If you desire to bring canoes or kayaks, they are safe and secure near the waters edge. If you wish to bring bicycles, they are safe within our private community and may be sheltered from in-climate weather under our front porch.

About owner/property manager

I am a mother of four and special education teacher in New York. One day I plan to retire at Duck, Duck...Goose. My family live on the island and I have been coming to the island since I was 15.

All of my children were raised in Maine during their summers and spent their high school summers working at local restaurants and camps.

I currently reside in New York during the school year and on MDI during each holiday and summer.

I built this carriage house and decorated it with all of my favorite things --and also built it to last. This is not your typical rental, this is my home for you to enjoy and make wonderful family memories!

owner/property manager purchased this cottage in 2012

Why owner/property manager chose Mount Desert Island

Duck Duck Goose is brand new, waiting to be enjoyed ~waiting for memories to begin. The perfect balance between charming furnishings and modern conveniences where anyone would want to call home. Its a toss up as to which room you want to spend time in or be outside embracing the woods, the water and the islands. Fall in love with nature, your significant others and get back to what is important.

What makes this cottage unique

You can bring your canoes or kayaks and put them right into the water either from the private dock or just down in the front yard.

You can jump on your bikes and disappear for hours enjoying the coastal streets, the national park and trails and Bass Harbor Light.

A Wonderful Time at Duck, Duck, Goose!

  • 5 of 5

Six of us spent a week at the beautiful Duck, Duck, Goose property. I had been in touch with the owner, Sara, before we arrived. She was very informative and responsive to our questions. There is a large book with ideas of places to see and places to go as well as restaurant suggestions. The house was immaculate, the accommodations were perfect, and the property is spectacular! The kitchen is well-equipped. There are games and puzzles, good Internet and cell phone coverage, two large televisions, and it is beautifully decorated. We felt right at home. We had harbor seals in the cove, wild turkeys running through the property, and several deer passing by. DDG is located on the quiet side of MDI which we loved! It was easy to access Acadia National Park after a short drive. We explored the nearby towns including Bar Harbor, Northwest Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. There was so much to see and do in the area that we wished we had stayed longer.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at Duck, Duck....Goose and were sad when it was time to leave. Sara is a delight to work with and was very responsive to all of my questions. The house is absolutely beautiful, spacious, and clean. It worked perfectly for our family of five which included two daughters (19 and 22) and my 83 year old mother. The fully furnished first level with bedroom and bathroom worked great for our daughters. The house is located in a quiet cove and is very private. We took our kayaks and left right from the dock. On one excursion out we were visited by a family of loons and a seal. At night we enjoyed sitting outside by the fire or being inside playing games at the large table. We had a wonderful week of biking, both carriage trails and along the coast to Southwest Harbor (can access the carriage trails in Northeast Harbor, only 15 minutes away), a boat ride from Bass Harbor to Frenchboro Island for lunch, wonderful treats from a bakery/cafe in Southwest Harbor, lobster dinner at Thurstons, which is only 5 minutes away and lots of much needed relaxation. If you are looking for a place on the "quiet" side of the island this is for you! We will definitely look to rent this again the next time we are able to spend a week in Acadia.

Awesome house and location

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a house that was close to everything without the headaches and traffic of Bar Harbor. This house was the perfect solution, no houses nearby. You get an isolation but a 15 min drive to where you want to go. The house is great, plus you get a dock and seating, fire pit and table almost on the beach. Plus each day we had a harbor seal that would hang out at low tide on a shallow reef 50 feet from the shore.

Beautiful, spacious, quiet!

  • 5 of 5

A girls weekend of 9 came to this home for the MDI marathon. The pictures of this house attracted us immediately and the great communication with the host, Sara, was a wonderful bonus! This house is off the beaten path and I recommend getting there before the sun goes down. GPS on iphones made it difficult to find, but Sara was helpful and guided us in. The house is gorgeous! It's cozy and has plenty of space...especially for 9 ladies. The beds were comfortable, beautiful and clean bathrooms, and plenty of amenities. Sara left us recommendations for places to eat and visit in the area during our weekend which was a big help. The backyard here has incredible views and even better sunrises! The wooden swing, hammock, and benches made it nice to relax and enjoy the views. The entire Bar Harbor/Acadia area is amazing and worth visiting. This house is about 30-35 min from Bar Harbor but worth the extra few miles to have total seclusion and quiet after a long day of hiking or sight seeing. I hope to come back to the area and this house will be the first on my list. Thank you for helping to make our race weekend so memorable!

Wonderful trip to Acadia

  • 5 of 5

I traveled with my husband, two daughters and a friend to Acadia in October. Sara's house was the perfect base for us. Clean, comfortable, cozy, well kept and well stocked, her house was a place I really looked forward to returning to at the end of the day. There is amazing sunlight in all the rooms, and sunrise and sunset on her waterfront property is stunning. It's an easy drive to Acadia's sights, Bar Harbor, and charming Southwest Harbor from her house. It is extremely private with no one else in sight. There is wifi and cable so screen time is possible if you want it. My husband spent hours over a 1000 piece puzzle that others had started in the living room. We had fun by the fire pit roasting marshmallows with our daughters. They loved sitting on the swing and the hammock. Our 4 year old enjoyed scrambling all over the rocks looking for shells on her property and the coastline right on the property is classic Maine and beautiful. Sara was easy to reach, resolved a smoke alarm issue we had immediately (I set it off making bacon...oops) and she gave us great recommendations on where to go eat and where to hike with our family members. Our daughters are 2 and 4, and they were able to hike with us to Ship's Harbor and up to the South Bubble rock. We rented bikes at Acadia Bike in BH and got a kiddie trailer for the girls. Sara gave us wonderful restaurant recommendations. Our best meal was at Coda in SW Harbor! It's a beautiful time of year to be in Acadia. Our drive home was long but the days we spent exploring Acadia and making memories in Sara's home will be cherished for years. Thanks Sara!
