It doesn’t get prettier than this. One of our guests, described Watauga Lake as Lake Geneva in the NorthEast corner of Tennesee. Our house sits atop of the mountains in Appalachia at 4500 feet. Because we are in the Cherokee National Forest, there are very few homes on the lake which makes the views prettier than normal. In addition, the lake gets warm early in the season. You can swim from April through late October. It is a short walk to the private marina and gazebo, where there is a private covered marina; Fish Springs will bring a rental boat to an open slip for you if you'd like or you can bring one yourself. In the winter, it is an amazing home located 20 miles from a handful of skiing mountains including Sugar, Beech, and Appalachian. Our home, completed in late November 2009, looks like something straight out of a movie with driftwood trees inside the house as well as indoor and outdoor water falls. You can be busy every minute, or simply sit by the water's edge and relax.

About Tom Holz

Heidi and I and our 3 children live in Charlotte NC and fell in love with Watauga Lake. It is one of the most peaceful, beautiful, fun places in America.

Tom Holz purchased this chalet in 2009

Why Tom Holz chose Butler

We come to Watauga falls in the winter for the beauty, the skiing and tubing, the fall for the views, hiking, camping, the spring and summer for boating, tubing, water skiing, cornhole, hiking, fireworks, marshmallows by the fire and of course just hanging out.

What makes this chalet unique

•Water Skiing, Fishing, Hiking in National Park, Camping, Boating around the beautiful lake

•Bring your own boat or rent (Fish Springs Marina) and park in private marina

•Snow skiing - Ski resorts (Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain) within an hour

•Hot tub

•Fire place in both living areas

•Outdoor fire pit

•Full size washer & Dryer

Guestbook comments from the owner

For us, Whispering Pines is a relaxing haven that gives us a chance to get away from it all. It sits atop a mountain so the views are spectacular! Stunningly beautiful Lake Watauga is at our doorstep. This house is clean and attractive inside and it has been outfitted in many thoughtful ways. It truly has all the amenities of home! We love eating outside on the deck under the roof, even on a rainy day. Our favorite outdoor spot? The in-the-ground campfire site with the benches surrounding it. Be sure to pack marshmallow, Hershey bars, and graham crackers in your suitcase! There is A/C and heat available at your finger tips, so no matter the weather, we are always comfortable. We will keep coming back to the Whispering Pines because it’s the perfect get-away (this was our 6th time :). We know that each visit will bring new and lasting memories. Thx so much Tom & Heidi for sharing your beautiful mountain home with us. --Jo & Frank Dirnbauer

This place is wonderful and has everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is beautiful and the owners have thought of everything. It is decorated beautifully. They supply all of the necessities you need like dish soap, trash bags, paper towels and toilet paper. We spent our days at my dads property a few minutes away that was water front so really only spent our later evenings and mornings there. It was so relaxing to come into such a beautifully decorated place each night with great WiFi so we could get caught up on some shows in the evening. The rooms with the loft and little cubby was perfect. Beds were all comfortable and the whole place was clean. Just such an enjoyable trip. Thank you for allowing us to stay in something to make us feel at home. Planning on staying here again next year.

Great Vacation Property

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Whispering Pines was absolutely perfect and everything we hoped it would be. This was out first vacation as a family, we had our daughter, who was 8 months at the time. The home was perfect for her because there was a gate at the top of the stairs which was perfect to have for her, we didn't have to worry about her going near the stairs. The home was perfect and even more beautiful in person. The owner Tom was great, he made sure we made it to the home without any issues which was nice. I would recommend the property and will stay here again if it's available the next time we take a trip out to Tennessee. Overall great experience for our first family trip.

Perfect private getaway in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing experience for our first time staying in a chalet in the mountains! Home was in prestine condition, the location was perfect and private with beautiful views and the owner was extremely helpful and responsive with any questions prior and during our stay. If your looking for a great place to make family memories, this is the place. We made many during our stay and will definitely be back to make more!

Beautiful home, ALWAYS my first choice!

  • 5 of 5

My husband is from a small town in Tennessee very close to Watauga Lake. When we visit, this home is always my first choice!!! It's always clean and comfortable and Tom is super accommodating. We've stayed in several homes at the lake, but Whispering Pines is always our first pick! Perfect in every way!!!
