Tranquil 3BR Twain Harte Retreat: Lake Access, Private Pool/Spa, Walk to Town
LOCATION + AMENITIES perfect for families or a couples/friends getaway! Charming and tranquil Twain Harte home w/ membership access to private Twain Harte Lake, large private in-ground pool surrounded by lush trees and hot tub/spa on property! Central A/C and heat plus an indoor wood-burning fireplace. Walk to town and very close driving distance to Pinecrest, Dodge Ridge, Leland Snowplay, Murphys, Columbia and Yosemite. 20-30 minute drive to skiing, sledding and ice skating in the winter and 5 minutes to summer lake fun. Pool and spa off the back deck. One-of-a-kind home with beautiful touches throughout. Only home in Twain Harte with its own pool (available in warmer months though you are welcome to polar plunge year round!) and a five-minute walk to downtown! Renters have access to the owner’s Twain Harte lake (a true gem!) membership during their summer stay and can enjoy the beautiful property’s large and shady front and back yards, multiple outdoor seating and eating areas under peaceful trees as well as an in-ground pool and hot tub on the deck (available year-round). The house sleeps 8+ comfortably 6-8 adults max (1 queen, 2 full, two twins, 1 toddler bed) and is fully equipped with additional baby/toddler equipment if needed, including an additional toddler bed and an infant crib as well as other baby equipment. The house is very well stocked as the owner's own family vacation home with kids' toys and games (as well as adults!), and most kitchen cooking/serving/dining/barware items anyone would require.
If you love the house but need more beds, check out our guest house next door, which is listed as a separate rental (Retreat #2 - please enquire when booking). If it’s available, you can book both and sleep an additional 3-4 people (1 full, 1 pullout futon) - the main home is plenty large enough to entertain all guests.
More Property Info:
The property has a huge footprint with very large front and back yards with plentiful spaces to rest, play, eat and work. We've added little touches throughout to create that special Twain Harte magic that both kids and adults can enjoy (think swings for the kids and little log seating areas; think peaceful outdoor respite areas for the grownups). The inside common areas are good-sized and offer great space to have meals together, play games or veg in front of the multiple Smart TV areas. Also special to the property, our renters are able to get into the private Twain Harte Lake on our membership (summer months only). This lake is the reason we bought in Twain Harte - you must come see!
DETAILED PROPERTY INFO:
Charming 1943 home with shiplap walls and beautiful beamed ceilings. The front door opens to a very cozy living room with a large smart TV and a wood burning fireplace with a Lopi stove insert to keep you safe and warm! This area leads to a hallway and a large downstairs bedroom with two double beds and a full and very large bathroom. The large kitchen and extra large dining area is an additional great place for your group to gather. Also off the kitchen is an additional family room with a smart TV, multiple desk areas for work and space for games and children's toys as well as the laundry room and side-door entrance. Up the stairs lined with book shelves, you will find the master bedroom with ensuite full bath and a darling children's room with two twin beds, changing table, and a toddler bed (there is an additional toddler mattress as well as large pack'n'play and highchair in the downstairs bedroom closet).
The house is extremely well-stocked and the kitchen has most things you would require (barware, cookware, bakeware, server ware, utensils and dishes, including some children's items) as well as includes a blender, toaster, Keurig, regular coffee pot, stand mixer, crock pot, popcorn maker and other various appliances and kitchen needs.
We love the large and fenced-in front and back yards, large wraparound deck and the beautiful in-ground pool surrounded by big trees and peace and quiet. The hottub is built into the deck for easy access during winter months. When there is no chance of snow, we have our full outdoor furniture out for you relax in including poolside chaise loungers, a large outdoor dining table and several other comfy seating areas throughout the yards.
Twain Harte is magic and our home is in one of the best, most peaceful and most walkable neighborhoods proximal to all downtown Twain Harte has to offer. The street has many full-time and part-time residents with great neighbors and pretty properties to stroll by all under the big trees. Our home is a quick walk (5 minutes) to all downtown Twain Harte eateries, bars, shops and activities and a 25 minute drive to Pinecrest Lake/Dodge Ridge for skiing, with other lakes for boating and fishing nearby. Come enjoy all Twain Harte has to offer (the town boasts an executive golf course, mini golf, tennis courts, bars, restaurants, shops, private lake and local events and activities year-round) with easy access to amazing hiking/biking trails and all activities in the great outdoors both winter and summer. Great atmosphere year-round with plenty to do in the surrounding area. Hiking, biking, swimming, boating, skiing, sledding, ice skating all within a close drive. Great nearby towns for more restaurant options and shopping.
LOCATION DETAILS: A short walk (approximately 5 minutes) gets you right into the wonderful and friendly town of Twain Harte which includes many dining options, night life, live music, a coffee shop, wine tasting, boutiques, executive golf course, mini golf, concerts and fairs in the summer, public pickleball/tennis/bocce courts and pool, groceries and so much more! In the summers (Memorial Day – Labor Day), the Green House includes access to the charming and members-only Twain Harte Lake. The Lake has been lovingly maintained by its members and board for nearly 100 years!

***Things to know before booking***:
- While you can have a great time on our property, this is not a party house! We prefer to rent to families or couples or responsible groups of people who will treat our home as their own. We welcome fun, BBQs, pool/spa parties, apres ski, cocktails and the like - we just prefer that you pass our property by if you'll be bringing a rowdy group or people who don’t care about respecting property. We and our neighbors will thank you!
- If you like all things modern and sleek, this property may not be for you! (Please see photos). We bought this 1943 house in its charming state and have done everything possible to preserve that including adding our own country chic flair to it.
-The property has multiple desk and seating areas to work in a quiet space. The house has high-speed internet and streaming on multiple TVs.
- You assume all risk for using our pool and spa - as noted in our rental agreement. Please swim responsibly and watch children at all times. Importantly, please note that the pool can be fenced off by closing the gates at the top of the stairs off the back porch (the only access points to the pool). A great (and strongly recommended) option for families traveling with young children.
- The house is fully stocked as we often use the property ourselves. This means pretty much anything you could need in the kitchen as well as shelves full of movies, games and books. We hope you enjoy, keep everything in the (reasonable) condition you found it in and please leave everything at the house. Thank you in advance!
- No fires outdoors as the area is too high-risk to allow them. You can use the indoor fireplace but ask that you tell us as there are very specific instructions that need to be followed (it's a stove insert). Thank you for honoring these rules!
- We may consider allowing one well-behaved and house-broken dog only under special circumstances (extra fee would apply and we ask that our house rules are followed).
- This is a house in the mountains and things can change quickly! We do not offer reimbursement for unforeseen events that may occur during your stay such as a snowstorm, heavy rains or a minor power or wifi outage. It’s very unlikely that any of this would impede your stay. If, however, the house cannot be accessed due to heavy snows at the property we do offer refunds on those reservations regardless of our rental policies.

About the host
Hosted by Mary Kokkinen
Hi, this is Mary and Mike! We are originally from multiple areas around the country and settled in California (Bay Area) just over 10 years ago. We, along with our three children, purchased our vacation home in Twain Harte a few years ago - we took one look at Twain Harte Lake and the house after getting acquainted with the nearby ski hill and were hooked and purchased within the week! With our busy lives at home we can't get to our lovely Green House as much as we would like and are excited to share it with others, from both near and far. Everything at The Green House is lovingly and thoughtfully put together and we hope you enjoy your stay!
Why they chose this property
Our Twain Harte Retreat is the only residence with its own private in-ground pool within a 5-minute walk to downtown! In fact, it may be the only property with a pool within a 15-minute drive from town (we've never seen another one!). While the pool is mainly for summer and/or warmer months use, we also have a new in 2023 hot tub built into the upper back deck, available year round. The inside common areas are good-sized and offer great space to have meals together, play games, enjoy an indoor fire, or veg in front of the multiple Smart TV areas. Also special to the property, our renters are able to get into the private Twain Harte Lake on our membership (summer months only). This lake is the reason we bought in Twain Harte - you must come see!
What makes this property unique
This property is one-of-a-kind in Twain Harte:
-Huge footprint with flat, fully-fenced front and back yards with grass (this is rare in the area!) and large wrap-around deck/porch.
-Private, backyard in-ground pool, the only home with this amenity and still a 5-minute walk to downtown Twain Harte. The pool is fully fenced off via the back deck. Guests have the option to heat the pool during their stay for an extra charge. We haven't had anyone request this yet as it is usually a welcome refreshment in the summer months.
-Renters have access to the members-only Twain Harte Lake during their summer stay.
-New in 2023 hot tub with year-round access in private location on back deck.
-BBQ grill with option for gas or charcoal, outdoor eating and relaxation areas.
-The house sleeps 8 comfortably, 6-8 adults max (1 queen, 2 doubles, 2 twins, 1 permanent toddler bed) and is fully equipped with additional baby/toddler equipment if needed.
-Fully stocked home for all your needs (games, towels, bedding, cleaning supplies, paper products, bath and kitchen soaps, server ware, utensils, cookware, bakeware, appliances, barware, multiple indoor eating tables, spaces to work and play).
