This house was built by my grandparents in the 60's to retire in the peace and serenity of the Adirondacks. My grandfather loved to fish and hunt. My grandmother loved how the mountains looked different every time she looked out the window. The house was passed down to my parents and now to me. I named the 2 maple trees out front Grandma and Grandpa!
We are dedicated to making this house a comfortable and affordable gettaway.
Karen & David purchased this cottage in 1969
We have lots of windows to enjoy the 180 degree views of the mountains, including Jay Mountain wilderness and Whiteface Mountain. There are no visible neighbors. Quiet gettaway.
Enjoy the 4 large Maple trees in the fall.
Enjoy the trails all year around.
Clean and well-maintained home.
Not another house in site.
18 acres with walking trails.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the house. It's a basic house, but we knew that going in, and it's therefore priced accordingly. Most important thing for us was its proximity to Whiteface, which was about 15 mins away.
Close to Whiteface mountain, which you could see from the house, which was the point of the trip.
The house was comfortable and clean, and the kitchen was stocked with what we needed to be able to cook.
It's on a road, but it's a very quiet road, and has a nice big back yard.
Communication with the owners were easy, they were friendly and responsive.
Nothing really hidden here, but just keep in mind it is a very basic house. No wifi (but Verizon works). The grill is a coal grill and not gas. The fireplace also is not a real fireplace, but rather an electric one. Only one bathroom.
I'd also recommend to the owners that for the room with the double bed, the heater in that room did not work, so it got very cold at night, plus having a carpet on the floor of that room would help to keep in warm in the winter, as the floor was very cold. Also an added chair in that room to put a few things on plus some hangers in the closet to hang up clothes would be nice -- we had to leave our clothes in our bags on the floor.
Thank you Karen for sharing your home! The Maples was a perfect location, and had all the amenities we needed while still feeling secluded. The house had no problems all week, job well done!
We vacation for a week in the Maples and had a wonderful time. The comfortable home had everything we needed. Very peaceful. The town of Jay was great. We went to a free concert Saturday night, climbed mountains, fished and enjoyed meeting the lovely people in Jay.
We stayed at the cottage for two nights during the weekend of June 10-12. It slept 6 adults comfortably and we had plenty of space to move about. The inside was very nice and clean. Nearly everything you need is provided for you. We enjoyed walking the trails out back behind the cottage and spent both nights out at the bonfire pit. There is a decent sized grill out on the back patio that we also put to good use. The grounds were well kept, and there wasn't very much traffic on the street the cottage is located on. Your far enough out of the way where it's quiet and peaceful, but still just a short drive from Jay, NY, which is a nice little town that has a movie theater, tops, gas station, etc. Lake Placid is only a 25 minute drive, and the toll road to Whiteface is about 10-15 minutes. Driving to the top of Whiteface is a definite must-do if you've never been atop a high peak before! The only small downside is that the tv does not get reception. However, a dvd player is provided for you with a decent selection of movies to chose from. Also the three of us who have AT&T did not have service in the cottage while the three that have verizon had service nearly the entire time. Not much you can really do about that but if you have AT&T expect to be phone less for a few days. The way I look at it your in the Adirondacks! Stay off Facebook for a few days! All in all had a great time and will stay again in the future!
Great quiet location with so many activities and things to do in the area! The house was very clean, quiet, and cozy. Very organized brochures. Loved the land and great hiking/snowshoeing trails out back. Had fun sledding in the yard as well (7 inches of snow fell while we were there, the first real snow of the season). The house had all the amenities you could need and the beds were all very comfortable. The views from all around the house were spectacular! Everything went smoothly with the owners Karen and Dave, and we would certainly love to visit again some day. It was just the type of family vacation my family needed!

Homeaway offers a great low cost property damage protection. You pay only $59 dollars for $1500 worth of protection.
I used to do a refundable $300 security deposit, but we lose some money that way, as Homeaway takes transaction fees off the total $300.
If you really still want to do the refundable $300 security deposit, we can easily arrange that, otherwise, we will add the $59 dollars to the rental for lots of coverage.
If you are staying 7 nights/week, it is a discounted rate of 140/night. Total of $980 for the week. I also like to give discounts on additional nights added to a weekly rental. Discounts for repeat renters too! Thank you!
