About Karen & David

This house was built by my grandparents in the 60's to retire in the peace and serenity of the Adirondacks. My grandfather loved to fish and hunt. My grandmother loved how the mountains looked different every time she looked out the window. The house was passed down to my parents and now to me. I named the 2 maple trees out front Grandma and Grandpa!

We are dedicated to making this house a comfortable and affordable gettaway.

Karen & David purchased this cottage in 1969

Beautiful and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the property for an anniversary get away, so happy we found this place! Absoutley beautiful views especially in the fall time! The house was very clean and welcoming. It was nice to be secluded and not much traffic on the road. Lake Placid was only about a 20 min drive and was easy to get to. There was a grocery store only a few miles from the house which made it easy to stock ourselves with what we needed for our time there. I highly recommend staying here and we can not wait to come up and stay again!

Great home in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a long weekend with several of my friends. The home was comfortable, set-up nicely for us to use as a home base, and was in an ideal location. There was lots of information on the area, and many ideas for things to do. We had a great time. I would recommend this cottage to my friends.

Clean & comfortable house in stunning surroundings

  • 5 of 5

This was a great rental. The owners communicated well, and clearly make an effort to be hospitable. Beds were comfortable. We loved the location, with views of the Jay & Wilmington ranges out of every window. Although the house is right on the road, it feels very remote because the road is so little traveled and there are no other houses in sight. Kitchen is well-equipped, and being able to do laundry at the house was great. Everything was clean and well-maintained. We hope to return.

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

My family and I stayed here for a long weekend. Booking was easy and I received print responses from the owner. I also received all the info I needed for checking in and my stay. Toward the end of our stay the house was beginning to smell like gasoline. Although the problem was not resolved by the time we left, we did receive a bit of a refund which I believed to be fair. The pictures and information were very accurate to this property. We only wish we could've stayed longer in the Adirondacks!

An wonderful parents + kids honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

this was our one-week honeymoon, and included my new wife's two kids, a boy (13) and a girl (10). The experience couldn't have been better. it was our first time in the Adirondacks, and we fell in love with the area.

the owners (Karen and David) are extremely professional. They got back to us quickly with answers to all of our questions. The instructions within the house on what to do -- for example, trash disposal: it has to be taken to a transfer station, you have to first buy tickets -- were extremely clear and organized into a single binder.

The house is very comfortable and has three bedrooms, it slept 4 very easily. the living room is large with comfy sitting furniture and it has an excellent large kitchen and washer-dryer. It is a beautiful house. there was plenty of hot water and a nice shower.

The grounds are great. The back yard has a circular grass "running track" which we used every morning. There are also trails through the woods which the kids loved.

There is no internet nor cable. and limited radio reception. We used the video player, with a large screen, quite a bit. They had DVD movies and we also brought some of our own. I had no problem getting reception on my iPad -- but i have verizon. other services had no reception.

It was centrally located for things we did. Ausable Chasm is a great family trip and is within half an hour, as are Whiteface Mountain hiking trails. We took a trip to Vermont (Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory tour -- a disappointment) and loved the two LAke Champlain ferries we went on, two different routes. Very inexpensive. Old Forge, about two hours away, had a great water park for the kids. Billy's in Old Forge is a wonderful inexpensive family restaurant.

I urge a "drop in" on the Green Street Family Farm, 295 Green Street. we got a tour of all the animals. what a creative family operation!!

Our daughter loved Stewart's ice cream. There are many Stewart's shops in the area. Lots of flavors.

if you go places in the area, you will be doing a lot of driving. Also be prepared to drive at night on very dark and winding (but smooth and well-marked) roads.

thank you Karen and David!

Damage Protection:
Homeaway offers a great low cost property damage protection. You pay only $59 dollars for $1500 worth of protection.
I used to do a refundable $300 security deposit, but we lose some money that way, as Homeaway takes transaction fees off the total $300.
If you really still want to do the refundable $300 security deposit, we can easily arrange that, otherwise, we will add the $59 dollars to the rental for lots of coverage.

If you are staying 7 nights/week, it is a discounted rate of 140/night. Total of $980 for the week. I also like to give discounts on additional nights added to a weekly rental. Discounts for repeat renters too! Thank you!
