Tradewinds Cottage's classic Hawaiian environment is the paradise you've been searching for!

Kauai's chronically sunny west side, with dry sunny days, offers several of the state's best beaches, the breathtaking natural beauty of Waimea Canyon, the unexpected splendor of Kokee State Park and views so stunning of the rugged Na Pali coast you'll forget to get your camera out. For adventurous travelers, Kauai's west coast serves as a launching point for world-class hiking, boating, sport fishing, surfing and helicopter tours of the island's interior. If you're looking for peace and quiet, take a short walk to the beach with a towel, a book, a drink, your favorite person or all the above to watch the sunset over Ni'ihau, Hawaii's Forbidden Island. Inside, you'll feel like you stepped into a dream.

And if you're out at night, don't forget to lean your head back and look up at the stars -- they look like they're just just beyond arm's reach. Or you could light the outdoor grill to start a memorable meal with your loved ones. Whether you've been out and about or nearby, you will look forward to coming home to Tradewinds Cottage.

Also nearby is Port Allen, Kauai's west side port, where you can sign up for a sunset cruise or an ocean-bound tour of the Na Pali Coast, both memorable and exciting side trips. Whether you want to picnic or hike, or just ponder Kauai's natural beauty, drive to the top of Kauai, accessible from the towns of Waimea and Kekaha. Driving up to Kokee State Park will take you past what Mark Twain called 'The Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.

Tradewinds Cottage offers a full kitchen and a washer and dryer to make your stay more pleasant.

The gracious interior invites conversation over dinner or drinks with friends and family with an open floor layout between the living room, dining room and kitchen.Louvered windows let the trade winds blow through the house, a constant reminder you're in Hawaii.

You can keep up, if you desire, with what's going on in the rest of the world with cable TV and free Wi-Fi internet. If you're in Kauai to work, there is plenty of space to spread out, a phone, a good internet connection, and services nearby.

You will enjoy your stay at Tradewinds Cottage whether you have a week, a month, or longer to spend on Kauai. Many of our guests are repeat visitors and will attest to how pleasant their stay was. You, like them, will reflect on the ocean side sunsets over the island of Ni'ihau, the timeless surfers riding the timeless waves, and discovering your personal favorite spots around the island. Your only regret will be leaving.

We look forward to seeing you!

Re Tradewinds Cottage, Kekaha, Kauai, 2017

ALOHA. We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Tradewinds. The somewhat secluded plantation-style cottage is in a peaceful, private setting less than a block from the ocean. The property is a short distance from a long sunny beach, ideal for walks, surfing...and sunsets. The house is airy, light, and immaculate. It is tastefully furnished in comfortable island decor. The kitchen is well provisioned with any needed utensils and dishes; the beds are conducive to a good nights rest with one’s sleep often lulled by the nearby incoming surf. A private deck with table, umbrella, and BBQ make for enjoyable sunning, reading, or al fresco dining. The manager, Scott, responded very quickly to the few problems we posed.

A Place to Live Like a Local

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have rented the Tradewinds Cottage for a few weeks every year for several years now. It is our home from home on Kauai, our favourite island. The thing we love best about it is that it is a home, not a resort. Indeed the nearest hotel is in Poipu, 30 miles away.

The cottage is on a quiet street, 30 metres from the southern tip of a pure white-sand beach which runs for 20 miles up the coast. We take a daily beach walk for a few miles, and have the beach pretty much to ourselves. There is good swimming 50 metres from the cottage, but it is a good idea to watch the locals. If they are not swimming, it usually means that the currents are running strong. On those days, it is prudent to walk (or drive) a 1/2 mile up the road to the lifeguard station and swim where the lifeguards can see you. The small town of Waimea is about 2 miles from the cottage. It has two restaurants (both ok) and a two grocery stores (both excellent). Drive another 10 miles to Hanapepe, where there are great restaurants (try the Midnight Bear Bakery - a friend from Paris says that their croissants are better than any in France), a great used bookstore and a Friday evening artwalk which is a cultural delight. Salt Pond (the best kids' swimming beach on the planet) is a 1/2 mile from Hanapepe. For serious hikers, the Waimea Canyon (15 minutes' drive from the Tradewinds Cottage) is a spectacular challenge.

If you like nightlife, go to Poipu. If you want some quiet time with your beloved or your family, go to Kekaha. If you choose Kekaha, the Tradewinds Cottage will please you.

Comfortable and cozy beach house

  • 5 of 5

My father was visiting from Canada. I wanted his experience to be memorable and comfortable. This home checked every box. He likes to cook and entertain - this home has a full kitchen. He likes to hit the beach - this home is across the street from the ocean. We are excited to book his stay at Trade Winds next year.

Clean, comfortable and spacious

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is as advertised. Clean, comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is well stocked. The kitchen already has Virgin Olive Oil and all kinds of spices; take inventory before going to the grocery store. For coffee lovers, there is an automatic drip coffee maker and two French presses (large and single serve). The trees around the cottage are much larger than in the pictures. There was a beautiful Singapore (I think) in bloom near the front entrance, as well as mango, lime and coconut trees on the property. As others have written, this is a great base for exploring the West, South and even East sides of Kauai.

We (3) had an absolutely fantastic stay at Tradewinds cottage. It was quiet, private and safe. Lovely huge private yard. i had a rental bike and there was great cycling all around the neighborhood, plus the hiway had a really wide shoulder, and when it left beach front the hiway was not busy.. a 1 hour ride gets you to the very end of the paved road. It was close to town to run for groceries/beer. Close to a great safe beach. My 80 year old mom LOVED the hot tub!!..private and fenced.. enjoyed drinking wine under the stars. The kitchen and laundry facilities were terrific, beds were comfy. Linens/towels excellent. Owner Scott couldn't have been more accommodating. We were out and about everyday doing excursions but were so happy to get home to our quiet relaxing home away from home. Total thumbs up for Tradewinds Cottage. Jean Katie and Mae

Our first vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

Wow, where do we begin! We booked this cottage because my husband and I brought my parents with us to celebrate their 30 year wedding anniversary. Let me just say that it did not disappoint. Upon stepping into the cottage, we were stunned at how big and wide open it was. It had everything we had hoped for and more! The kitchen was fully equipped, and had a seperate dining and living room that connected to a wide open area which was great. The bedrooms were MUCH bigger than we anticipated, and the master bedroom had a door that connected to the back patio with a very big hot tub that was ready to be used. The whole cottage exceeded all of our expectations. Beds were very cozy and the ceiling fans kept the house in a very comfortable temperature the entire time. The bathroom had plenty of towels and even some beach towels if you needed them. The yard had all kinds of fruit trees, like oranges, limes, and avacodos. It was amazing!

The location was southwest of the island which was the dryer side that stayed mainly sunny. It was very close to Port Allen (about 10 miles) where if you booked Napali coast cruise, it was a short drive, and Salt Pond Park where there is a nice beach to just relax at. The town of Waimea is only a few miles away. The ocean was literally right across the street within a footballs field length. My husband and I after our first night, woke up early and walked along the road next to the beach and watched the sunrise. It was very beautiful.

We would absolutely without a doubt stay here again when we return to Kauai someday. Our rental property manager Scott was very easy to work with, and was always in touch if we needed anything or had any questions or concerns. Looking forward to returning again one day. Mahalo!

Perfect for our needs

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tradewinds cottage. A family of 4 with a 5 & 7 year old. Big yard to play, hot tub to relax and all the other amenities you would need (beach chairs, cooler, etc)

We honestly didn't spend a ton of time at the house as we were out and about to various beaches, hikes etc. everyday but great place to unwind
