About Charlie Sproule

We have a romantic history with Jim Thorpe. Family of ours owned hotels and a bottling company during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As sometimes happens, the accountant ran away with all the money, so we just get to look at our lost inheritance and think about what might have been.

Jim Thorpe was the first place we vacationed together as a couple and was the site of our wedding ceremony on a gorgeous May day. It's a place where our family toiled in the mines and in the sewing factory and raised their kids. It’s where every street had a bar and a church and people you dated had to live within walking distance.

Now, Jim Thorpe is about artists, adventure and the art of dining, all of which we believe in and support. We can mountain bike, hike or antique and then dine on American cuisine or attend the strawberry festival at a local church. We like it all.

Why Charlie Sproule chose Palmerton

Life in the big city is a noisy adventure, and we craved a bit of solace. It was the mountains that always beckoned, not the shore. Within an hour's drive, we are happily parked in front of our home, feeling miles away from the bustling life we left behind. We enjoy the secluded feel to the place, while knowing that we are just a few minutes away from grocery stores, dining, drive-in movies, hiking, and dozens of other activities.

What makes this cottage unique

Star-gazing while sitting on our back porch, after a meal made of ingredients supplied by local farm stands cannot be beat.

Driving 10 minutes to Beltzville Lake and having to choose between a dozen or so amazing hikes is a delight.

Running down country roads past horse farms and seeing the woods in their fall glory is beyond words.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We would be happy to write a review. We were very impressed with the decor in the cottage. We felt at home with the artwork on the walls and the the kitchen amenities. It was nice not to sacrifice quality appliances just because we wanted to get away for the weekend. The technology inside the cottage was perfect. This usually isn't even a category I would talk about because it normally doesn't exist in vacation homes. The directions [to use the technology] were clear and great for a rainy weekend. The wifi was also a must to keep in touch with the kids. Thank you so much.

We are coming back

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage in a secluded area within close distance to everything. I was a little bit worried about the bathrooms as they weren't pictures of them but turns out they are more than fine. You can tell the owner really cared for this house with attention to details. Loved the backyard full of pine trees and little ferns, full entertainment suites with netflix and etc , kitchen with full of local gourmet condiments and teas! Charlie made sure we had everything we needed for the weekend from trip recommendations to questions. Our family all talked about how we want to comeback in the winter, so we will be coming back for sure. Highly recommended!

Lovely, quaint home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this cottage. The home is beautifully decorated, in a quiet area, and is perfect spot to disconnect. The home is clean, has a nice deck facing a lovely wooded area with a BBQ. It's very close to Jim Thorpe and Glen Onoko Falls. We would definitely stay again.

Comfortable, quiet, Charming

  • 5 of 5

The home was great, very homey, comfortable, close to everything but far enough away to feel secluded and stocked with everything you need and more. There were more spices and seasonings then you know what to do with, and more then enough condiments in the fridge for whatever you’re cooking (if you forget yours). The supplied linens were also a nice touch as normally you have to bring your own. As clearly described, the home does not have air conditioning. Unfortunately for me, I booked the home for the week during the recent heat wave where the temperatures were in the mid to upper 90’s during the day and 70’s at night). However, by opening the windows at night to let the cool air in, closing them in the morning and using the ceiling fans on low to keep the air moving-coupled with the home being shaded by numerous trees-I managed to be comfortable. Although the home does not have A/C, I’m still rating it as 5 stars as I knew this well before booking and there were other things that were great for instance: Alexa system for weather/news, numerous games to play if needed, a crate filled with info on the area, nice rear deck to sit and enjoy the woods behind the home, Internet/Netflix TV for shows and music, etc). The Owner, Charlie, was/is great. Prior to arriving, he sent information on the area and also called on the first day to see if everything was good, to make sure I was comfortable and if I had any questions about the area. He also made it clear that he was readily available if I had any questions (to feel free and reach out to him). Charlie made a few suggestions in the area which were great (Country’s view diner for breakfast, Country Junction General Store, Jim Thorpe, etc.). Unfortunately, a few other suggestions he made I wasn’t able to partake in since I didn’t have the time. All in all, it was a HOT week (I stayed comfortable), the home was great and Charlie was very hospitable. You don’t need much else. When I come back to the Jim Thorpe area, I won’t hesitate to stay at Charlie’s home again!
