About Christa Pilkington

Christa and her husband Dan own and operate a residential construction company in the Temecula Valley. Dan designed and built this home himself and loves to build custom homes. They have two small children together and love living in Temecula.

Christa Pilkington purchased this house in 2005

Why Christa Pilkington chose Temecula

This home is outside the city without being cut off from anything. The 5 acre property is private and peaceful, however anything you need is close by. The wineries are all just minutes away, and a short drive into the center of town brings you to everything else, restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, gas stations. We love the seclusion that this property offered without having to give up the convenience of living in the city.

What makes this house unique

The home has an amazing view of the sunset. It is peaceful sitting out on the patio in the mornings listening to the neighbor's horses and watching the hot air balloons floating in the sky while having your coffee or having a glass of wine while watching the sunset. It also offers guests the option of having 2 separate areas for larger groups who want to vacation together but still want the option of retreating to their private space.

Cozy updated house.

  • 5 of 5

If privacy is what you want than this us the property for you. It is in the middle of vineyards and on a couple acre lot. It sleeps plenty and is basically 2 small apartments. Upstairs has its own full kitchen and bedrooms. I recommend this house and will stay there again.

Lovely home with lots of room for our whole family

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay recently for my son's wedding in Temecula. It was only 5 minutes from Abbott Manor where the wedding was held. When our pilot light went out, Christa quickly came down and lit it for us. We only had one issue that wasn't addressed and that was an outbreak of ants. It was partially our fault for leaving dog food out to entice them to come in. That was the only issue. Oh, I would make a small suggestion. There was no bar soap in the bathrooms. I had to go purchase soap. Maybe getting some small soaps like at hotels might be helpful. The home was lovely, the beds were comfy. Even though a busy road is out front, we had no trouble sleeping or hearing it. We enjoyed family that came to visit on the front patio. I would highly recommend this property!

4 Stars for the upstairs unit, 1 star to the downstairs unit, 1 stars for availability of owner.

  • 1 of 5

I just stayed here last weekend for my birthday, I had 10 guests the first night. This place looks really cute and has a lot of property around it, the 4 bedrooms were all a decent size, however there were several issues with this property. First, the upstairs bathroom is only accessible via the bedroom, if that door is locked for privacy, the only way to get from upstairs to downstairs, is through a bottom bedroom or by going outside- because of that, privacy was an issue. The top unit is gorgeous and well done, great for entertaining. The bathroom and bedrooms downstairs have no natural light, the windows open to an unfinished storage shed that is disgusting. The fire pit did not have propane. There was a mouse hanging out behind the downstairs fridge. My biggest issue was that the owner didn't share her pet policy with me until I paid....she doesn't allow check-in until 4pm and if you want to drop your dog off early in the backyard, you can't because "she'll be there cleaning all day". She demands they be left in a crate inside the house. The backyard looked perfectly secure to me and I don't understand why she didn't want the dog back there. The problem with having one or more dogs and staying here is that the wineries do not allow dogs in the tasting rooms or at their patio restaurants so you have nowhere to put them during the day while you're at the wineries. I emailed the owner several times about this and also called her several times and she did not work with me to resolve the issue. The only reason I booked this property is because they claimed to be pet friendly, but I really don't feel that they were. Nobody brought their dogs but me on the last day because she never got back to us with a workable solution- she stopped responding to me the last week leading up to our stay- which I find unacceptable. I paid a lot for this place for the weekend, she should have called me on the phone and worked it out. I will not stay here again and I've been going to Temecula every year for my bday for the past 18 years.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry to hear that this guest was unhappy with their stay, I try my best to accommodate everyone however, sometimes there are situations that are out of my control which was in this instance. Regarding the guest not receiving the pet info, I was not informed that the guest was bringing any animals until just before their check in, at which time she informed me that they would be bringing 3 dogs and were going to drop them off 5 hours before her check in time, despite the fact that pets have to be preapproved and that she never paid the pet fee or mentioned them at all. Second, she was upset because I could not accommodate her 11 am check in since I had guests checking out at 10 am that morning and could not have the house cleaned in time. I don't understand the criticism of my having to spend more than 1 hour cleaning the house, it is over 2000 sq' and I want it cleaned thoroughly before my guests arrive. I tried to accommodate her needs and offered to let her drop off her things and pets early, which she did, but required that they be crated for their and my safety, rather than have them loose in the house all day, which is what she wanted and never once asked to leave them in the yard. I tried to work with the guest to resolve their issue with the dogs, we had many messages back and forth and I even waived the pet fee but she would not be content with any solution other than leaving them loose in the house, which guests have done in the past which resulted in my property being damaged. My house rules are in place to protect both the guests and my property and we would have been able to discuss these issues prior to her booking my home if she had followed the rules and had informed me that she planned on bringing pets in the first place and that she was bringing 10 people, not the 6 she claimed when booking. Regarding her other issues, the house layout is described in great detail on the website, including numerous pictures, and unfortunately mice are sometimes an issue since we are located in a rural area. Every home and hotel in the area has to deal with them, unfortunately. We set traps frequently but many guests leave doors open and food out which draws them in. I take the satisfaction of my guests very seriously and many of these issues would not have occurred if the guest had been honest about how they were using the house prior to booking.

Nice layout. Worked well for what we needed, seperate area for each group. Not the cleanest.

I don't think that the host remembered that we had reserved the property. The code was not ready, so we were not able to get in upon arrival. We had to call and text to get a hold of them to come out and let us in.

There was a full house staying, we rented both levels for wedding party to stay at all weekend. It worked well for what we needed it to. The house was not very clean. There were sheets in the dryer that were meant for the couch, which we needed, that were wet when we found them so we had to rewash them. We had to rewash all the towels, they were all bleached and dingy. The house ran out of toilet paper. For 12 people staying 3 nights we had 3 one ply rolls only on each level with no back up, so we had to go buy more. We also had no trash bags, but were asked to take trash out at the end of our stay, so we had to haul the whole trash cans out and empty them by dumping the contents out into the dumpsters. The downstairs bathroom had mold growing on the walls. We also tried to use the fire pit outside but there was no propane in the tank so were not able to use it.

We did contact the host to let them know we needed trash bags and toilet paper and that the dryer downstairs was not working to dry the wet sheets, but received no response.

The upsides were the location was lovely, there was plenty of parking and we liked the seperate areas for the groomsmen and the bridesmaids to stay in. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, we cooked full breakfast with no issues.

I'm thinking if they remembered we were coming that they may have cleaned a little more and been a bit more ready for our arrival. Hoping that others have better experiences with the little details.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry to hear that my guest was unhappy with her stay. I met part of her group at the house since the code did not work when they arrived. The house had been cleaned, and the guests commented that it was clean and nice when they arrived, but I did let them know that there were sheets in one of the dryers still, which were just extras and they did not have to deal with them at all, which they said wasn't an issue, there were already clean sheets on the couch pull out bed ready to be slept on. All of the towels were clean and I do not know why the guests felt the need to rewash them. I never received the email or message that the guests needed more trash bags, and have looked back through my records and couldn't find anything, otherwise I would have brought down anything that was missing immediately. I have had many large groups stay in the house and 6 rolls of toilet paper is usually sufficient for a weekend but I would have gladly brought over more if needed. I take my guests' satisfaction very seriously and will make sure to prevent these issues in the future.

Wonderful and beautiful home. Loved the outside patio where it has a fire pit and loved the huge parking space. The house was very comfortable to stay in and the next time we come to Temecula, we will be staying there again! Loved it!
