About Peter Ryan

We split time evenly between our Montana home and our residence in Huntington Beach, California. She's retired; he's definitely not!

Peter Ryan purchased this house in 2010

Why Peter Ryan chose Yellowstone Country

Our neighbors are the friendliest people you will find. Montana isn't somewhere you visit ... it's a state of mind.

What makes this house unique

We have looked out the window to see a dozen deer grazing in our yard or 150-200 elk passing by at the far end of the property.

Cozy cabin with an extra special loft

  • 5 of 5

The Grizzley cabin was lovely, well stocked and decorated nicely with a beautiful wildlife art. We had no problems getting our zzzzz's in the super comfy beds. And when it turned cold, the wood burning stove was a nice treat. The location is great for visiting Livingston or Yellowstone park, and Chico's Hot Springs is right down the road.

Astonishing views in all directions!

  • 5 of 5

For my first trip to Montana, I can't think of a better way to get a feel for the big sky full of stars and the expansive landscape than staying in the Golden Grizzly Cabin. It's a gorgeous, well-built cabin with a loft bedroom (gotta be able to handle stairs and not a good place for toddlers because of that). While small and cozy, it has everything you need! A fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, a great woodstove and barbecue, a wonderful large whirlpool bathtub (plus a shower).

The best part, to me, is being able to lie in bed and look mostly 360 degrees out all the windows to see the scenery, which goes on for miles and miles. It's not even an hour from the north entrance to Yellowstone, and there are lots of places nearby to hike and fish. Even a couple of terrific restaurants within fifteen minutes in the middle of nowhere! The Yellowstone River flows nearby, and it's beyond quiet and peaceful. A perfect place to rest, refresh, relax. Pete and Derrilyn are terrific and helpful and make your stay a five-star one! We will be back!

Note, they also have an apartment (which is gorgeous) in their house nearby and you can rent two upstairs rooms (which Derrilyn decorated in an amazing fashion!). So if you want to bring a bigger family group, you can take up the extra rooms.

The best cabin and the best experience

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to be able to stay at the cabin on very short notice. Everything was much better than we could expect and the pictures do not do it justice!

We arrived and were given a tour and were just so impressed with the owners hospitality. This was our first visit to Montana and our first to Yellowstone. This was a bucket trip for my mother in law and she was thrilled. It was just the three of us.

The drive to Yellowstone was gorgeous the whole way.

Everything that you could possibly need is in the cabin, they kindly even provided a crock pot which we used twice. There is plenty of information on things to do and places to go readily available in the cabin.

There is a bit of a rocky road to the cabin but don't worry about it at all. We were in a Prius and made it just fine.

Do not hesitate to stay here. You will be thrilled right down to the rocking chairs on the porch to watch the moon rise over the mountains. It was like a dream and I hope that we will be able to return one day soon.

Thank you!!

Grizzly Cabin was wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Cabin had everything you needed. Our travel was August 1st thru the 5th & the weather was hot during the day. A/C was adequate but the bedroom upstairs @ night was hot until the temperature changed outside. It did not get dark until 10 p.m. Montana time.

Weather was nice & cool in the mornings & late @ night. We saw plenty of deer in the early morning & late afternoon traveling towards Gardiner or Livingston every day. Towards Gardiner you got to see buffalo & mule deer being raised right bedside the highway.

Chico Springs is only 20 minutes away & they have a nice saloon & the food was good. It was sorta neat to have water that hot in a big pool.

The bugs were visible in the cabin but the owners had traps out as best they could.

Our only downfall was that the cabin was not secluded. It is located in the owner's back yard. Your front porch view was the back on their house but there were mountains everywhere in the distance. I had asked the owners how close the closest neighbors were & the reply was about a football field away. That was a true statement.

We found the north side of Yellowstone to be the prettiest. It takes 3 hours to get to Old Faithful from the cabin & it also takes 3 hours to get to the South entrance of Yellowstone. Old Faithful decided to erupt in the 120 minutes time frame & that was a long 2 hours to wait. Be sure to obey the speed limit in Yellowstone. They will stop you where it flashes "25 mph". Go see the Grand Tetons out the South entrance if you get the chance. We were told that Bear Pass was breath taking as well out the northeast entrance of Yellowstone to Cooke City & Red Lodge.

It also takes 3 hours to get to Big Horn where Colonel Custer was killed. Where ever you see green stuff growing, that is where the animals will be, early & late. We were told that alfalfa was the short crop & potatoes were the taller crop. The beer in Montana is made out of the alfalfa. The irrigation was also interesting to us & much different than what we use in Southwest Georgia.

Everyone was friendly & I highly recommend traveling to the Yellowstone Area.

LOVED IT! Luxury details of a 5-Star yet a true Cabin Experience

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at The Golden Grizzly Cabin it has Luxurious 5-Star qualities, yet a true CABIN experience. (How did you do that!!) My husband got his Montana Cabin and I got my Luxury Hotel!! It was so relaxing, peaceful and comfortable. I especially loved being surrounded by mountains, the gorgeous mountain views and the “Old-Ghost-Town” look of the owner’s home next door. An EXCELLENT location in Paradise Valley, 20 mins to the town of Livingston and 30 mins to Yellowstone National Park, 10 mins to Chico Hot Springs, a great scenic day- trip to Nevada City/Virginia City to see the old mining towns, plus floating, rafting, fishing, hiking all available right there in Paradise Valley near the cabin. I would definitely stay there again, and will recommend it to my family and friends.

Beyond expectations

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect. Very quiet, cozy and quaint. Decorated very cutely (cowboy boot cabinet pulls; stuffed animal bears) which adds to the fun ambiance.

The homeowners are beyond conscientious-- fresh flowers, nice notes, etc. Chairs, throw pillows, nice plates and decorative bowls--- they've thought of everything you need to have a cozy stay. Dishwashing detg, laundry detg, soaps and shampoo-- you don't need to bring anything!

The towels and sheets were of high quality, and the bed and pillows were the best I've ever slept in (and we've been to many 5-star hotels around the world). There are enough blankets to keep you warm in the winter, and great breathable sheets to keep you cozy in the summer. The location and temperature fluctuations mean you get amazing breezes overnight in the winter. One night we even caught a thunderstorm --- lightening in the mountains was GORGEOUS. Like a dream. We also got to play with the 2 'mouser' cats, and saw 2 beautiful horses running around at a nearby farm.

I love, love, love the 360-degree views from the loft bedroom, as well as the extremely cute and crafty 'outhouse' bathroom up there. We really loved our stay and will absolutely be back next time we go to Yellowstone. (Just about 40min drive to the entrance)
