Our newly renovated 1890's vintage ranch cabin has all new modern appliances and comforts and is opening for the first time this Spring for visitors. From our location you can be swimming in Bass Lake in 10 minutes, get to the South Gate of Yosemite in 35 minutes, or drive the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway and have all the treasures of the Sierra National Forest at your feet. In the evening you can sit back and relax, barbecue, and enjoy the sweeping views from your own private garden. You are guaranteed great bird watching from our hummingbirds to Red Tail Hawks. After nightfall you might even enjoy being serenaded by the native coyotes!
Katie and Bob are local teachers who love the outdoors and the great opportunities to enjoy nature in Yosemite, Bass Lake, and the Sierra National Forest. Our most recent adventure is creating a small heritage breed animal farm. We are currently refining the chicken run and will soon have donkeys and/or horses and of course, pigs! We also have four loving kittens who are quite happy to have you scratch their ears.
Katie and Bob Kelly purchased this farmhouse in 2011
We chose North Fork as it's a great place to raise kids, flowers, fruits, and vegetables, and spend time outdoors. And, who wouldn't want Yosemite in their backyard? We are on 12 acres that are perfect for raising animals of all sorts, a large vegetable garden and the beginnings of an orchard.
We are located on the faster, more scenic route to the South Gate of Yosemite National Park (35 minutes) and Bass Lake (10 minutes). We are 25 minutes from the town of Oakhurst. We are situated in an ideal resting spot after day trips to many local attractions and half hour to the Chukchansi Casino and resort. You can sit in your own private garden and look out over historic grazing pastures and watch the sun set over the hills behind you and if you hit it right, you can enjoy the produce from our vegetable garden.
This is our first time ever trying Home Away or anything like it and it was the best experience we could have had. Bob and Katie are so hospitable and while the pics of this house are great, it is even better in person. Everything was clean and fresh and carefully thought out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were so sad to have to leave. Even our five year old asked if we could move in. I was ready to move in too!
Some awesome perks:
* Chilled wine waiting for us in the fridge. We aren't wine drinkers but the sentiment was so sweet.
* Some great literature in the house. We especially liked the children's books about Yosemite.
* Beautiful surroundings
* A cozy place perfect for our family of four but just as suitable for friends or a romantic getaway.
* Not too far from Yosemite. About 35 minutes from the Yosemite South Entrance.
* Near Oakhurst which is a bigger town with restaurants and grocery stores.
* The Kellys provided very thorough directions to their place, tips for things to do in the area, and their favorite places to see in Yosemite. They are also very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and were able to help us out with a few questions we had.
If you are considering this place, just do it. You won't regret it!
The cottage is very sweet with old world charm. We loved staying there, it had everything we could have wanted. Before we arrived during the coldest days of the year, Katie turned on the heater to warm the house for our arrival and even was thoughtful enough to have two electric blanket in the bed we were sleeping on. The location was perfect for us to visit family just a mile away.
Thanks for everything ~ Stacey
Highly recommended. Stayed a couple nights and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Really nice people who care about your stay. Not to far from Yosemite, which makes an easy day trip. Would stay again!
The property is great, exactly as mentioned in the description. We could locate it easily. The house was clean and well arranged. We stayed for one night. The floors are a bit creaky but manageable. Overall the experience was good. There are options around to eat but they close early, so one should keep that in mind.
My fiance and a couple we stayed with at the Vintage farm house had such a lovely time! The host was super helpful and sent us information about things to do in the area as soon as we booked. After a long day of hiking at Yosemite, it was so nice to go back to such a quaint place. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. We grilled every night on the gas grill - it was awesome! The feral kitties running around outside were so fun. We would definitely stay here again! Thanks for such an enjoyable stay!
The house has everything you need and away from the crowd which is exactly what we were looking for. The owners are very available if needed and had kindly put some fresh farmed eggs from the property in the fridge upon our arrival. Only one thing: would be great to improve cleanliness
North Fork, a former logging community nestled in the middle of a vast pine and cedar forest is based at an elevation of 3,000 feet. North Fork has a large artist community, a farmers' market, and large Mono Indian population with several museums. The town itself is a quiet, quaint town that has one of the best Mexican restaurants you will ever enjoy. There is a grocery store, post office, coffee house, Pizza Factory and the authentic Buckhorn Saloon. Bass Lake is a 10 minute drive through the pines where you can lay on the beach, hike the trails, jet ski, dine at the local restaurants or rent a boat. Continue on another 25 miles and you will arrive at the South Gate of Yosemite National Park. You will be minutes away from the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoia trees and the Wawona Hotel and golf course and with another 45 minute drive you will be at Glacier Point. Continue on and Yosemite Valley will be at your feet. Another attraction in the area is the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway which has its starting point in the town of North Fork. It is a spectacular 100 mile loop through Sierra National Forrest with stunning views, picnic grounds, hiking trails and the gateway to Mono Hotsprings.
