The apartment is situated on the 5th floor of a Haussmanian building constructed of sandstone sculpted in the style Louis XV and situated in the heart of Montmartre, the highest point of Paris. This site is known for la Place du Tertre on the top of the "mountain" where famous artists used to paint and where contemporaneous artists now paint. It is also known for the Sacre Coeur Basilic which can be seen from any point in Paris. At one time Montmartre was a small village separate from Paris, built on the slopes of a "mountain". Even today, in the heart of Paris, it has retained its "village" atmosphere with its joie de vivre, its staircases that stretch to the top of the mountain, its own vineyard, its own moulin ( windmill), its beautiful buildings constructed from sandstone taken from the quarry situated beneath the area called the Grandes Carrières of Montmartre. Nearby is another windmill at the bottom of the slope of the mountain that I am sure you have all heard of : Le Moulin Rouge de Henri Toulouse-Lautrec at Place Clichy!. Close to le Moulin Rouge is another famous attraction, le Marché St. Pierre famous for its exquiste fabrics!
Today, Montmartre is frequented by tourists from all over the world, it being one of the several "monuments" or places to see while visiting Paris: the Eiffel Tower, Place Concorde ( where Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette lost their heads to the guillotine) l'arc de triomphe, les champs Elysees, Notre-Dame, le Marais, la Bastille, le Quai-Dorsay etc. All of these monuments are easily and quickly assessible from the apartrment. You will be surprised that Paris is very small and that each of these momuments is in walking distance from the other.
As far as being serviced by public transportation, the apartment is well located. There is a bus ( the 95) which goes directly from where I live in Montmartre to la rive gauche (where are situated the Universities including the Sorbonne, the Pantheon, Assas, the School of Medicine, les Beaux Artes etc. passing by the financial centre and its famous Department Stores ( Lafayette, et le Printemps), l'Opéra, le Louvre and le Jardin des Tuileries, le Palais Royal, La Comédie Française, Saint-Germain-de Près, Montparnasse etc. Close to Montparnasse you will find the Latin Quarter and Le Jardin du Luxembourgh. The 95 busline can also take you to the famous Marché des Puces, a stones throw from Montmartre. There are also two metro stations at about 3 to 4 minutes walk from the apartment. Each of the lines that stop at these stations has good connections to the other lines that service Paris and its surrounding towns.
I want to rent this apartment furnished to tourists for short periods of time. Why do I want to rent it to tourists for short periods of time ? Because, I want the people who rent it to enjoy it during their stay in Paris, not only for its spacious disposition and all of its amenities for daily living but also for all of the pieces of art ( scuptures, paintings etc,) silverware, furniture, china, linen, glassware, etc, that were acquired for it when I lived in it. I want my guests to enjoy this apartment just as I have enjoyed it during the past 10 years. Presently, I live in a flat I had constructed just above the apartment on the 6th floor.
Let me describe the apartment! It covers an area of 110 square metres and is in the shape of a horseshoe. It is decorated in the style of Louis XV just as is the building. Its furnishings are in the styles of Louis XV and Louis XVI and of the Napoleonic Empire. It has two bedrooms each of which is air conditioned and has it own queen size bed and bathroom or shower room decorated in black marble. Both of these bedrooms have lots of closet space one of which has its own dressing room. One of these bedrooms has its own television and shares a B.O. sound system with the living room and dining room. The other, which has its own internet connection also has its own B.O. sound system which it shares with a fully modern kitchen decorated in black granite that is fully equiped (containing among other things a dishwasher, a dryer, a washing machine, 2 ovens, 5 gas burners, a microwave oven, 2 deep stainless steel sinks, an expresso coffee maker, kitchenaide mixer, and other appliances). In the middle of the horseshoe is a large living room with a wood fireplace and its own B.O. and Sonos sound system and a dining room which can seat 8 people comfortably. In the living room there is a leather couch which can be made into a double bed. Thus, the apartment could accomodate 6 people comfortably!
There are two entrances to the apartment just as there are two W.C's ( two powder rooms consisting of a toilet and sink) each of which is close to a bedroom. One entrance is attached to a long hallway which has its own library containing books in both the English and French languages. Because each bedroom is located at the end of one leg of the horseshoe, if two couples or a couple with two children were to rent this apartment, the privacy of each couple or of the parents and of the children will not be compromised. Furthermore, because of the two entrances each of which has a separate access to one leg of the horseshoe, if two couples travelling together were to rent the apartment, each could be independent of the other allowing it to arrive home late without disturbing the other couple who might have preferred to go to bed early. Finally there is a door which could be locked between the two halves of the apartment to conserve each other's privacy ( one half consisting of an entry, a powder room, a bedroom with its own bathroom, the living room and the dining room and the other half consisting of the hallway with the library, a powder room, the kitchen and a bedroom with its own bathroom.

The apartment is next to the commercial centre of Montmartre, la rue Damrémont with its chocolate, cheese, wine, beer & antique shops, restaurants and bistros. There are plenty of restaurants in the area offering the finest cuisine for afforable prices. Close by is another frequented spot called la rue Lepic with its outside cafés and bistros. At walking distance, is the Place Clichy with its famous brasseries like Wepler and Charlot where you can eat wonderful shell fish!
We were so fortunate to be able to spend three weeks in the most exquisite apartment imaginable. This two bedroom and two bath apartment, with state of the art kitchen, comfortable queen sized beds, separate washer and dryer, espresso machine (full of fresh beans), dishwasher, oven and microwave, has everything needed or desired in a home away from home. Add to that an amazing music system, wonderful antique furniture, comfortable and beautiful, and the very best location in the heart of a residential neighborhood in Montmartre, and absolutely nothing in Paris can beat it. It is right next to a bus stop, a short walk from a central metro stop and in a residential neighborhood that is quiet, yet full of shops, little grocery stores, cheese stores, butchers, bakers, wine shops, and many bistros and restaurants, all a short walk from Sacre Coeur. It is also an absolutely pristine apartment and is cleaned and linens are changed every week. Everything works and is in excellent repair. Of course, the best part of our stay was meeting William and his partner, Guillaume, who were so kind and hospitable, joining us for dinner and drinks and full of wonderful recommendations of how to make the most of our stay. We felt, at the end of our three weeks, that we were more than just visitors, but part of the community, being greeted by the shop owners and neighbors on a regular basis. We will absolutely be back, hopefully every year.
This apartment was stunning in the photos, and even more beautiful in person! It was in a lovely neighborhood; very convenient to the metro and bus line. Our host was very accommodating and available when we had questions. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who enjoys luxury and comfort and wants a beautiful place to come home to very night.
What a fantastic "home" to spend away from home with my beautiful three daughters for a week! Living in Texas, USA, we are accustomed to wide open spaces (so to speak). However, the apartment far outreached our expectations and much to our delight was the foundation to our Paris adventures. After long days of exploring the fine museums, exquisite art, fabulous food and wine of Paris, we could hardly wait to return to the apartment to relax with the wonderful warmth and amenities so thoughtfully included by William and Guillaume.
Even though the apartment is the epitome of fine French décor it is very comfortable-- William and Guillaume have made sure to include up to date technology in music, television and internet; not to mention the fine linens and fabulous coffee!
The location of the apartment was "spot on" with easy accessibility to markets, restaurants, and of course, the metro and bus! We experienced such joy in making new friends in the neighborhood and looked forward to their greetings in the morning and upon our return in the evening.
William is a fabulous host--making sure our needs and desires were met as well as assisting us with any exploring we wanted to do. It was unfortunate we were not able to meet Guillaume but look forward to that some time in our future travels. Paris holds a special place in my heart and memories forever.
I encourage everyone who has an opportunity to experience life in Paris to do so while staying with William and Guillaume in their "Luxury Apartment in the Heart of Paris (Montmartre/Sacre Coeur)".
A typical Parisian apartment, on the 5th floor of a typical Parisian building, near Montmartre. The interior decoration of this apartment is anything but typical though.
The place is furnished with beautiful antique furniture. It is a bit over the top, in fact, with everything you could conceivably need, or want. The atmosphere in the apartment is reminiscent of the chateaux we visited in the Loire Valley, the previous week, but with the added bonus of a top quality kitchen and bathrooms.
Space is a bit cramped, due to all the furniture - one needs to take care walking around, that you don't bump anything. It's a change from home though, and in that sense, its worth putting up with this for a week, to experience life as it used to be for a Parisian gentleman 100 years ago.
William and Guillaume are charming hosts, responding very promptly to queries, and providing excellent recommendations on local restaurants and sights.
This is definitely among the best apartments we've ever stayed at.
We are somewhat at a loss to put into words how marvelous this apartment is, and everything you see written here and below should convince you that you should try to make this apartment the heart of your next trip to Paris. It is perfectly located within Montmartre to immerse you in a true Parisian lifestyle, with all the shops, markets, restaurants and cafes in Montmartre literally and figuratively at your door and within footsteps. Then, with a 5 minute walk to Metro stops on two different lines, or the 95 Bus which lets off by the front door, you are also easily within reach of any Paris destination. William and Guillaume have made this apartment extraordinarily comfortable for visitors of any age; we were traveling with our 75+ yr old parents and we each had our own "wing" of the apartment, yet could be together in the dining and living areas with ease. As noted so often below, it has all the amenities of any of the finest hotels, yet retains all of the charm of the neighborhood. If it is possible to state this, the pictures don't do it justice; it's that breathtaking.... It is quite spacious, not just for Paris, but would be if it were in New York, Chicago, London or Hong Kong! The owners are simply incredible, leaving no stone unturned, and no contingency unplanned for, and no detail unconsidered. We simply cannot recommend this apartment highly enough, and strongly encourage any one who comes across this listing to contact William and learn the same for yourself. Simply impossible to adequately describe in a review....where is the 11 star button?!?!?!!!
The only negative thing that I can say about this amazingly beautiful apartment is that the pictures do not do it justice! Yes, they are accurate but the apartment is so much more. From the tasteful and exquisite antiques to the thoughtful amenities such as chocolates, a fully stocked fridge (beer, water, juice, etc) to the soap and luxurious towels and bedding. Oh, and don't forget the coffee - oh la la, so very french. One feels that they have somehow ended up, not in a Paris apartment but in the Palais de Versailles! . The apartment is spacious and modern even though very old-world Parisian. That being said, it took no time for my friend and me to feel very comfortable there and to feel very much at home. Everything is so painstakingly thought out with every detail taken care of to make one feel pampered, that I am sure anyone who is lucky enough to be able to rent this place will be very glad that they made the decision to stay there. Our gracious, friendly and sophisticated hosts, William and Guillaume, went above and beyond to insure that we had everything we needed and provided us with very helpful tips to see Paris, not only as a visitor, but through the eyes of someone who has lived and experienced the rich history and culture of this beautiful city. The location of this apartment is perfect. I can't imagine staying anywhere else but Montmartre now that I have visited Paris. Close to the bus and metro lines, it was very easy to get around to the places we wanted to see. The proximity to the most wonderful restaurants such as, but not limited to, the extraordinary Sens Unique & Le Sagittaire made choosing a restaurant easy if we happened to be home on a particular night. The shops, bakeries and fresh food markets help in keeping costs down by buying fresh and eating at home. Granted the warm butter croissants don't do much for your waist line but the calories will burn off quickly with all the walking that you will do around Paris. I really don't have enough adjectives to properly describe how perfect this place is or how wonderful our hosts were. Just take my word for it - you will not be disappointed.
The property has two entrances to cater to privacy of unattached adults travelling together.
