About Kate Wainwright

Originally from the south coast of England, I moved to Chicago in 1998 with my husband Ashley. We loved the City on arrival, and partifcularly liked Andersonville/ Edgewater where we bought and renovated an old colonial house in 2002. The neighborhood is fun, convenient and friendly, and we now feel very much at home within a warm and eclectic circle of friends. After many years of global travelling for large corporates, I had baby Teddy in 2007 and decided to stop checking myself in and sit on the other side of the fence. Numerous hotel stays have made me realise that travelling is both fun and tiring, and so Magnolia Studios excels at providing essential comforts. We aim to send you home feeling relaxed and refreshed after sleeping in super comfortable beds, and after being in a vintage building that is private, relaxing and completely renovated. We're on hand to help with any aspect of your stay, or if you know your way around, we just let you enjoy.

What makes this studio unique

We are 5 minutes from the beach and Lake Michigan, and 30 minutes from downtown on the 'L' train or Lake Shore Drive. Andersonville is well equipped with some great eclectic shops and some the best restaurants and bars in the city.

Perfect location for visiting Cubs fans

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Magnolia Studios! The location was so private, quiet, and peaceful...which was a warm welcome after spending a full day in Wrigleyville.

The Redline is just a five minute walk away, and you can be at Wrigley witching a half hour.

I can not recommend Kate's place more. We will definitely be back, if she will have us ;)

Quiet & HIdden Gem in the Edgewater/NorthSide area of Chicago, close to Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

Back in town recently for a charity event & to visit friends. Having lived in Chicago Northside area for over 30 years, I tried to stay here last year but units were booked up solid. A good sign and I resolved to try again on my next trip. After a prompt follow-up from Kate (Owner) I was able to book my dates this time around. What a WONDERFUL place to stay in an extremely convenient location in a residential neighborhood in the City !! It's a short walk to a beautiful Whole Foods, with restaurants and cafes close by. And, with a lovely stroll through the neighborhood, you find yourself at the shores of Lake Michigan. Terrifically designed and laid out with comfort and convenience in mind, MAGNOLIA STUDIOS is perfect for short-term stays or longer, if you find yourself working/relocating to Chicago. Units are in a remodeled and updated Coach House behind the main home & are tucked away for peace and privacy, with a small courtyard and wonderful natural light streaming through. Kate has made every effort to provide whatever you might need while in residence (coffeepods/tea/bottled water provided) and was always available for questions/suggestions. Great climate controls/Sleek and fully equipped kitchenette/great W/D access/Comfortable bed & lovely furnishings/WiFi/High quality Linens,Towels & toiletries/Iron and small board/hairdryer/. All spotlessly clean and tidy, so why stay in a hotel ever again ?! Close to CTA (Bus and L station both) There is parking available on-site, but it's just as easy to forgo the cost of a rental car and travel via the abundant Taxis/Uber cars quickly available in the area. I would also mention this spot would be great for parents visiting nearby Loyola & Northwestern Universities (within 10-15 min) and also for a Winter getaway for Holiday shopping or a concert event weekend. I had a lovely stay here at MAGNOLIA STUDIOS and hope to return soon. My thanks to my wonderful hosts Kate & Ash for making me feel so welcome this trip !!

The studio is simply delightful. Great location, wonderful setting, appealing décor, abundant amenities. We had opportunity to meet host and family which was an added bonus. Would recommend to everyone and will keep this on our list of great places to stay.

Charming Studio in Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

Beside the great location of the studio, which is very close to the CTA (buses and the 'L') and situated in a charming and quiet neighborhood, the room itself was not only very clean, but extremely welcoming, warm, and, well, just lovely. Moreover, all the amenities & supplies one could need ( and then some!) were readily available in the studio. Indeed, the studio, as well as its owner, are inviting and give a very friendly impression. I would definitely recommend the studio to anyone interested in staying in Chicago; and I intend to stay there again next time I visit the city!

Second time around

  • 5 of 5

Last year, my wife & I stayed at Magnolia Studios as part of an extended holiday in the US. We both loved the place. As soon as I knew I had a conference in downtown Chicago, I immediately booked again. Studio 1 proved a wonderful haven in the bitter tail-end of a cold Chicago winter. It was a welcome change to the usual conference accommodation and was as warm and comfortable in the winter as it had been cool and comfortable in the summer. While there for 11 nights, some plumbing work was required in the garden. By way of apology for any inconvenience, I arrived home one evening to find a fine selection of Illinois brews and some chocolates accompanying an explanation of what could be expected. More than adequate compensation for having to wait 5 seconds for the plumber to step aside one morning and me step across a hole. I would highly recommend this place as an ideal alternative to a hotel for anyone with a bit of time to spend in Chicago.
