About the property

Come stay in our private cabin on the edge of the National Forest! Soak at Belknap or Cougar Hot Springs, or take advantage of HooDoo skiing specials... Located about 50 miles east of Eugene, on a clean mountain stream; near waterfalls, swimming holes, whitewater rafting, hiking, skiing, or golf. The newly protected "Finn Rock Reach", part of the McKenzie River Trust, is just a mile away across the Finn Rock/Quartz Creek Bridge with acres of (unimproved) hiking areas. Float the world-famous McKenzie River, and fish in its sparkling clean waters; after a day of exploring the area, return to our cozy cabin in the woods for a quiet evening on the large deck overlooking the lush Pacific rainforest. Sleeps up to 10, with a large deck, full kitchen, dishwasher, wood stove (wood provided). Daily or weekly rates; self-catering, 2 night minimum. About Robin Winfree

We love to travel, and so we enjoy making our cabin a place for other travelers to relax in a beautiful location. We have both lived in Oregon for over 40 years, and we love to share the incredible beauty of the Cascade Mountains with our guests.

Robin Winfree purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Robin Winfree chose Willamette Valley

The Forest House is uniquely located on the edge of the Willamette National Forest, and in a great central location for exploring all the McKenzie Valley area has to offer. We hope our guests will also enjoy the peaceful quiet of the forest, as well as the sounds and view of Elk Creek from our deck.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Waking up on Christmas morning to everything covered with snow, what more could we ask for? We had an amazing time while we were here: great location, great food, and great company. We went for hikes, even down to the creek in the snow, and built snowmen and had snoball fights. Thanks for sharing your little hidden gem with us; we are thinking this would make a great Christmas tradition!

A disappointment

  • 2 of 5

The setting is beautiful, the deck is quiet and peaceful and it was clean. However we found the upstairs of this a-frame cabin to be totally unusable. It was very hot during our stay and with no air conditioning the upstairs was unbearable. Also the stairs were steep and narrow with limited head space. Essentially we paid for an entire section of the house that we found unusable. The lighting in the house is very strange and inadequate leaving the cabin feeling dark (the kitchen has a desk lamp facing toward the sink because the lighting is so poor). The kitchen was well stocked although not having a microwave was inconvenient and it's the first rental we have been in in years that did not supply paper towels. Would we go back? No. There are other rental homes with peaceful settings and nice decks for less money and with usable upstairs.

Owner's Response: It's too bad you did not enjoy our rustic cabin; we stay there often, and have found that opening the windows and doors, which are all screened, along with the ceiling fan and the portable fan creates a nice ventilation throughout the house. And there are always paper towels in the kitchen cabinet... we certainly try to anticipate our guests' needs. Thank you for your input.

Amazing Cabin

I rented this cabin for my family to stay in during my sons graduation and it was the most perfect place ever! They never wanted to leave! From the trails, the view and the whole environment, it was perfect!!! Thank you!

So very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was charming and the area was so tranquil. My 13 yr old black lab hasn't been this happy or relaxed in years. My partner and I enjoyed it as well. There's no wi-fi and you have to go to the street to get a signal on your phone but that just added to the escapism. If you stay there, be sure to visit Cougar Reservoir nearby so you can experience Terwilliger Hot Springs.

Long Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at this relaxing and quiet little cabin in the woods. Everything in the cabin was perfect. So close to everything we wanted to do, a little hiking, relaxing in Terwilliger hot spring, and playing in the snow with our dog. Then at night relaxing by the wood stove. Would recommend this place to anyone. Definitely will come back in the future.

Just the retreat we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We were so thankful to find this cabin with the most delightful owners. We were looking for a last minute retreat close to Eugene, but something that felt much further. What an amazing time we had celebrating out in the McKenzie River area, hiking the McKenzie River Trail and then cozying up and drinking wine in front of the fire. It was a great space and could have easily accommodated more than the two of us and our pup (which they were so easy going about). We hope to come back again when the weather is a little warmer! Thank you so much for sharing such a special place with us.
