Welcome to The Fir & The Fig!

We are set on a private road 2 miles east of the Sonoma plaza and walking distance or a short bike ride to some of California's oldest and best wineries. Our location is in the heart of the wine country and only 40 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge. We're on Sonoma's coveted east side so Napa is easily accessible in 15 minutes drive. You can start your day with a drive to Napa or just enjoy the laid back historic wineries all around you in Sonoma. We are uniquely positioned with wineries all around on old country roads so minimal traffic. This offers a unique opportunity to tour the area by foot or on bikes. There is a great article on our direct website along with a map with more details. Our favorite mode of transportation is cruising the bikes to a couple wineries en rout to the famous Sonoma plaza which offers an abundance of tasting rooms, 5 star restaurants and great markets. The plaza also hosts many great festivals throughout the summer and fall so you never know what you might roll up on.

Now that you know what's around us let's talk about the great property you would be enjoying when you're not out and about. We just finished major renovation in 2013 so everything including the beds are brand new. We have a large hot tub just off the back deck that overlooks our brand new in-ground swimming pool. The pool features an auto-cover and solar heat which keeps it very comfortable for at least 6-7 months of the year. We can monitor the heat remotely, and if needed, we can use our gas heater to get it to your desired temperature in the off-season. There will be an additional charge if gas heat is desired. We have just completed our new bocce court and installed new landscaping for 2016.

We love accessibility of this property from the Bay Area but yet how far away you actually feel. It's the perfect escape to enjoy peace & tranquility without the long travel time. We especially love the ability ride bikes or walk and enjoy nearby attractions without getting in our car.

What makes this estate unique

Location, location, location! We love the secluded feel of our property while being such close proximity to so may great wineries and the Sonoma Square. This is a property for those that enjoy peace & tranquility. It is not a suitable location for groups that want to party into the night.

Wonderful property and great owner

We had a great time staying at the property, everything was in working order . Property was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The outdoors is the cherry on top, lot's of sitting areas and seeing the deer morning and evening was wonderful. Would stay again and would recommend.

Perfect Escape in Wine Country

We had a wonderful 5-night stay at The Fir & The Fig. The outdoor space was amazing and felt very secluded. We loved all the fun games available like bocce, cornhole, horseshoes, darts, and our favorite shuffle-board! The pool and hot-tub were fantastic. The layout of the house and decor is very well done, especially for a vacation rental.

The owner was very attentive and made great recommendations. He makes it very clear about the noise ordinance which is no surprise in such a peaceful residential area. One of the recommendations was to rent bikes which were delivered to the property. We really enjoyed riding to many fantastic wineries that were all within a couple of miles of the property. It was an incredible way to take in the scenery of this historic part of Sonoma. We hope to be back again next year.

Lovely oasis in wine country

Thoroughly Enjoyed Our Stay!

The house was inviting, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We were a group of girls, a few who are elementary school teachers who read the house manual very carefully and we had no problems at all. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Great outdoor spaces!

Wonderful pool and patio area with LOTS Of shade and sun. House was comfortable, but the dirty windows and dusty entries were off-putting, and the deck outside the master bedroom was covered with dust, dirt and leaves. Kids LOVED the game room and turned it into "kids camp".

Unreasonable standards for rental

It was painfully easy to have a noise violation and then you lose your deposit. The neighbors are literally right next to the house so there's almost no way not to make a noise violation. That needs to be much more clear. Not stripping the bed of linens and being spotless? Guilty for sure but there is a cleaning fee paid. Damaging the property and house in any material way or having amplified sound outside of the house? Not true at all. The problem with the house is that it's located a few feet away from the neighbors. You make the tiniest peep and they can hear. And as a renter, we were very surprised by that. There's literally no separation between house and neighbor. So even inside Sonos music can be heard if it's on even a reasonable volume level.

Owner's Response: We follow standard rental policies that apply to all Sonoma County vacation homes. We emphasize rules for amplified outdoor sound/quiet hours and confirm that each guest reads and acknowledges the rental agreement before booking. Jessica agreed to these terms prior to check-in. Upon check-out Jessica messaged “Hello! House was great. No issues with pool or hot tub!” After we said she forfeited her deposit due to recorded violations, she changed her point of view. We have hosted over 200 groups in 4 years and have only 1 recorded violation with 70 reviews averaging 4.8 stars. This is the 1st time we kept a deposit due to fines/damages and received a malicious review. Jessica’s description of the situation is inaccurate. The closest neighbor is over 60 feet away. The entire property line is fenced and has a 2nd noise dampening fence along the bocce court (10ft redwood with a 15ft hedge). There is also a large storage shed between the spa/pool and the neighbor. All act as barriers to dampen sound and provide privacy. No neighboring homes are visible from the back of the property. We only encounter issues if renters do not respect quiet hours or have music loud enough for neighbors to hear. Jessica acknowledged her group was outside and playing music until midnight. She forfeited her deposit since violations were issued by Sonoma County: (1) Noise violation for outdoor amplified sound (2) Violation of quiet hours for late night outdoor activity. The county must have clear evidence that the violation occurred in order to record it. Evidence on file documents loud music/outdoor activity after 11:30pm. We opted NOT to charge Jessica additional fees for: (1) Additional 8hrs of cleaning (2) Property damage. Excessive cleaning was required for dirty dishes/spoiling food left in kitchen/refrigerator, trash piled in the house/kitchen floor, doors left unlocked and swinging wide open, trash scattered in yard by trash bins, unstripped linens, overflow trash sorting/off hauling, broken glass on deck/driveway, melted water balloons on deck/poolside. Property damage included a burn ring on dining table, dents all over top of coffee table, ruined display tray, discoloration of decks from melted rubber, burn/melted wax on inside of hot tub cover. We do our best to communicate rental expectations to our guests and to be fair and lenient on any unintentional damage. It is extremely rare that we encounter issues, but in this case the guests were both disruptive and destructive.
