Looking for a getaway in Maryland?

The Birds’ Nest is a tastefully decorated, romantically secluded lake-view vacation home at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. It’s an enchanting choice for a special occasion: honeymoon, wedding anniversary, girls’ weekend, or just a quiet escape.

Summer rentals run from Sunday to Sunday.

You bring your lovebird; The Birds' Nest will provide the atmosphere!

Nestled among tall oaks and lush rhododendrons, this tastefully decorated, 2-bedroom home is conveniently located at 296 State Park Road for year-round accessibility. It is 0.6 miles from Deep Creek Lake State Park and approximately 6 miles from The Wisp Ski Area. The charming little town of Oakland is about 5 miles away.

The lakefront, across the road from the property, offers one of the best views of the lake — the sunsets and star-watching are magical! You may swim or launch your kayak from here, though there is no dock facility.

The downstairs of The Birds' Nest has a well-equipped kitchen, one bathroom, a living room with a propane fireplace insert, a study area with WiFi access for your laptop computer, and a bedroom (double bed). Upstairs is a large bedroom (queen-size bed and a futon) with a sitting area overlooking the woods, a walk-in closet, a half-bath with washer and dryer, and a surprise nightlight! A flat-screen television with satellite connection, a DVD player (with video library), and a CD player are located in the living room downstairs.

High-quality bed linens and towels are supplied at no extra charge; bring your own toothbrush!

Relax in the sunken hot tub in a very private resort-like setting after a day of outdoor activities.

Enjoy the landscaping and seasonal waterfall on the property.

The deck offers a view of the lake and has a picnic table with a gas grill. There is a fire-ring outside The Birds’ Nest for toasting marshmallows and telling tall tales!

We welcome your house-trained family dog, too. Fee required per animal. There is a new dog park beside the HART For Animals facility in McHenry which is free for use.

Wild animals love this location and visit regularly. We do ask, however, that you do not feed the bears!

Our goal is to fulfill the need for a superior rental vacation home that is not a “McMansion”! The house is 900 square feet of well-planned space with high-quality furnishings. It sleeps four people comfortably, with separation between the bedrooms for privacy.

Outstanding vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing long weekend (Nov 4-8) at the Birds Nest. This place is a gem ! We found it warm and cosy, inviting for full relaxation! Our teen boys enjoyed the place and surroundings very much. The weather was great, so they had a blast playing basketball in the State Park across the lake (less than a mile walk)! The evenings we stayed by the fire and used up a lot of Polly's wood, while the boys were soaking in the hot tub! The cottage is extremely well kept and if you forgot your reading materials, there are many great books available. The DVD collection includes many famous films, but we didn't have time to watch much! The CDs are also great, with lots of classical music, and gems such as Sarah Brightman bringing back memories of the UK and the 90s! Polly is a great host and such a pleasure to meet her and chat! We'll definitely come back for a longer stay to enjoy the area and do even more hiking and sight seeing! Bogdan and family

Owner's Response: I was delighted to read that you all enjoyed your family vacation at The Birds’ Nest. Its location is terrific for hiking the various trails at Deep Creek Lake State Park and it is convenient having the basketball facilities there. The camp fire and the hot tub are a relaxing way to spend an evening after exploring or sightseeing. As a retired English teacher, books are important to me and I am delighted to share my collection with The Birds’ Nest guests. As noted, there is also a wide collection of movies and CD’s, too. The cottage has recently gone through some upgrades with new furniture and décor. It is a very special place with many repeat guests. We look forward to your return trip, Bogdan and family!

Great location on Deep Creek Lake. Bird's Nest is most appropriate name.

  • 5 of 5

The owner made our whole trip from booking property through our time at Deep Creek a great experience. We were a few minutes from Deep Creek State Park so hiked there one to two times a day. Also within short drive from many other activities. The interior was very comfortable for us (two people and senior dog). The location in the trees and the decorations made us feel like we really were nestled in a Bird's Nest. Thank you for a much needed relaxing vacation.

Owner's Response: I am so happy that The Birds' Nest provided everything you needed to make your vacation at Deep Creek Lake enjoyable. Your dear pet, Zoe, seemed content, too, and enjoyed the twice daily walks to the state park. A new refrigerator has just been installed and I think that completes all the recent upgrades to the cottage and makes people feel they are returning home to a welcoming nest! Thank you for choosing to come here and we hope to see you all again. Polly

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for the beautiful and relaxing weekend! We were thrilled to find such a comfortable home away from home to enjoy a long weekend with our family and celebrate our anniversary. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay or better hospitality. We hope to come back soon!

Owner's Response: Lesley, I am delighted that The Birds' Nest offered your family everything you needed for your special long weekend at Deep Creek Lake. The location is terrific for visiting the area and a daily walk to DCL State Park is a joy for guests and their pet. The cottage is snug and warm and, this time of year, seeing the steam rise off the lake in the morning is a spectacle! A soak in the hot tub is a relaxing treat at any time of the day. I look forward to your visit again next year! Thank you for choosing The Birds' Nest. Polly

A Special Place and Person

We felt like you were a friend before we even met – and were so excited to finally talk face-to-face. You are what makes The Birds’ Nest so special – a truly kind and thoughtful woman. May all the goodness you have given to others come back to you a thousand times over.

The Birds’ Nest is your legacy – full of the warmth and caring that you personally demonstrate to all who share this space. We felt comfortable and cared for from the moment we drove up the driveway. Our welcoming committee of Maggie and Macavity were heartwarming for us – still grieving the loss of our Peek-a-boo. The house was spotless and invited us to settle in and relax. We came to Deep Creek to get in some serious training for upcoming triathlons and marathons – which we did but our time here at Birds’ Nest between training provided the perfect recovery time of rest and relaxation.

Our visits with you were a highlight of the week. We wish we had more time to get to know you better – you have so much to share and we feel like we have so much in common. Not only did you make us feel like old friends – you welcomed our friends who spent a day here with us.

Thank you for sharing The Birds’ Nest with us – but most of all for sharing yourself with all who pass through here.

You must be well prepared for your adventure this weekend as you participate in the Savageman Triathlon. I will be looking out for you and wish you success and enjoyment! I am delighted The Birds' Nest provided everything you needed and a relaxing soak in the hot tub at the end of the day must have been welcoming! Thank you for choosing The Birds' Nest.

Paradise in Deep Creek Lake

It’s almost impossible to describe the transformation of one’s soul after spending a week at The Bird’s Nest!

Ms. Polly felt like a friend long before I arrived and her peacefulness cannot help but to seep into your soul.

DCL is a beautiful area that called me from past memories. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been here and I’ll promise myself this: it will not be that long before I again return.

The state park is a wonderful place for a nature lover and her dog. Kayaking every day restores me. No alarm clock, no work, no worries.

Swallow Falls is a great hike!

I ate at Ace’s, Uno’s (w/my dog) and Cornish Manor. All were good! Went to Canoe on the Run but left w/o eating.

The hot tub at the end of my day was just what these tired bones needed.

What was the best part? Ms. Polly! She was a delight! She gave me lots of information, where to go and how to get there. Maggie was almost always at her side! I’ve made a friendship here! Take the kayak and paddle all the way down to the right as far as you can. If you are lucky you will see the bald eagle proudly showing who is boss!

Lake swimming! Oh to this Carolina girl it was heaven!! Cool and refreshing – I came here looking for an answer – I didn’t find it, I found so much more.

Thank you for sharing The Bird’s Nest!

I will always remember you and my time here. I will keep you in my prayers!

Owner's Response: Jane, It was great to meet you in person, and Bailey, too! What a wonderful time you had taking full advantage of the lake and surrounding area. Like me, you clearly enjoyed your daily dog walks to DCL State Park and kayaking at different times of the day. I saw an eagle again yesterday soaring majestically overhead! This is a fabulous location for staying put or exploring and sunset from the lakefront is hard to beat. I look forward to seeing you here again one day.
