About the property

Stone Cottage sleeps 4

Historic Fisk Farm on Isle La Motte, Vermont overlooks Lake Champlain with magnificent views of lake, mountain and meadow. We offer natural beauty, historic charm, and peace and quiet to our visitors and friends. Your stay in our guest cottage helps to support our work of historic preservation, land conservation, and community well being.

Adjoining our 24 acres is the Fisk Quarry Preserve. Owned and managed by the Isle La Motte Preservation Trust, the preserve is a 20 acre site which contains a rich wetland habitat for birds and animals as well as a geological treasure - remnants of the ancient 450 million year old Chazy Fossil Reef'. Fisk Farm also hosts Cultural Heritage Programs consisting of art shows and concerts in our restored barn.

About Fisk Farm: Fisk Farm (24 acres) is located on Isle La Motte, Vermont, the northernmost island of Lake Champlain near the Canadian border. It overlooks the lake and the Adirondack Mountains to the west. During the 1800s Fisk Farm was a showplace with the grand house, several hundred acres of farmland, the elegant horse and carriage barn, and a deer park. Toward the end of the 19th century, Nelson Fisk became Lieutenant Governor and his home was visited by such distinguished guests as President McKinley and Vice- President Teddy Roosevelt. Roosevelt was visiting the Fisk Estate when he heard that McKinley had been shot. The beautiful stone mansion burned in 1924 but today its romantic stone ruins make the property a scenic landmark on the island.

About the Stone Cottage: Built in the late 1700s the charming Stone Cottage may have been the first building on the property. Now a guest cottage, it has a living room with fireplace, cathedral ceilings, antique furniture and a queen sized sleep sofa. The loft bedroom has a queen sized bed. There is a bathroom with shower. A full sized eat in kitchen allows guests to prepare their own meals.

General Information.: As the cottage has cooking facilities, breakfast is not included. A grill is available for outdoor barbecues and an herb garden is available for your special meals. Excellent restaurants are nearby. Enjoy swimming, walking, cycling, birdwatching, or write the great American novel. Visit the ancient fossil reef in the Fisk Quarry and Goodsell Ridge Preserves. Are you a musician? Two grand pianos reside in our horse and carriage barn. Tea, art, and music are served in the garden and barn on Sunday afternoons in July and August.
