This was our first HomeAway stay. It certainly won't be our last. We went to South Padre for a running festival and expected to stay in a hotel, as usual. But, the hotels in the area were less-than-stellar. So, we decided to browse the HomeAway listings in the area and found this property. For about the same overall cost as the hotel would have been, we were able to enjoy a very nice stay in a private condo on the beach with all the amenities.
About this property:
This is a very comfortable, clean, and spacious condo located on the beach. But, maybe the best thing about this place is the sense of having your own private slice of the beach. There is a very large private deck/boardwalk next to the beach that is furnished with various sitting areas (lounge chairs, tables, sofas, umbrellas, etc). My wife and I probably enjoyed this space most of all. This is a great place to enjoy morning coffee and evening cocktails, if you are so inclined.
Near the deck area there is a very nice swimming pool and hot tub with beach views, as well. My teenage and young adult children preferred this area.
The living space is a two bedroom / two bath apartment complete with separate decks for each bedroom. There is a common living room, kitchen, and dining area. The kitchen is setup with all the necessary items for cooking and cleaning. Overall, the place was immaculate and inviting when we arrived. It was nice to have separate living areas for the parents and older children.
The apartment decks are spacious, but the ocean view is limited as the apartment sits behind other units. There is an ocean view from one end of the master bedroom deck, but otherwise the view is obstructed by other units. That being said, the landscaping on the property is very well manicured and easy look at while on the deck.
A wrist band and parking permit are required for entrance to the grounds. This is monitored closely by onsite security. You never have to worry about stolen items, vandalism, or overcrowding of pool/deck areas. You rarely get this relaxing sense of security and privacy at a hotel.
As far as activities and attractions go, there are countless things to do and places to go on South Padre; many of which are within walking distance of this property.
I would definitely recommend this vacation home to a friend.
A Very Nice Stay

The unit was clean and well furnished. Everything in the condo was well cared for and operational. In the past, I have paid more for less so I consider this a good deal.
The grounds and the pool areas are also well maintained. The tennis courts, while usable, need some attention. With the beach access and patio area by the beach, this was much like a resort stay.
I would recommend this place to anyone coming to SPI.
Check in upon arrival at Padre Island Rentals, 3100 Padre Blvd. at the corner of Padre Blvd. and Kingfish, 1 3/4 miles north of the bridge on the right side of the road one block north of the Blue Marlin Supermarket.
After checking in and receiving your parking permit make a right onto Padre Blvd. The Bahia Mar Resort, 6300 Padre Blvd (on the right hand side of Padre Blvd.), is less than 2 miles from our Office. Unit #655 is located on the north side of the Bahia Mar Resort. Turn into the north entrance and drive pass the hotel tower towards the beach. The condominium buildings are numbered, #655 is in building 6 on the second floor.
Maximum occupancy limits are strictly enforced.

Occupancy limits are controlled by the use of wristbands. When you check in at Padre Island Rentals you must put your wristband on at that time. Bahia Mar security guards will only allow persons wearing the bands to enter the property. If you have friends or family visiting you during your stay you will need to make arrangements to meet them somewhere else, they will not be allowed onto the Bahia Mar Grounds.
Each rental at the Bahia Mar will receive up to 2 parking permits. Any additional vehicles will need to park off property.Permit Number: 2015-831675
