About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Peace and privacy prevail at this beautifully set contemporary home located on an over-sized lot in sought- after Field Point association. Offering expansive tidal water and marsh views this attractive and unusual summer home offers unique design in a most tranquil location. The upper level features spacious open kitchen-dining-living, wood floors and one bedroom while downstairs you will find two more bedrooms and a large family room all with water views as well! Stroll down the road in either direction to pristine bay beaches or relax at home on the wraparound porch watching the water fill in the marsh and the birds enjoy the tranquil Cape space. This beautiful Mid-Century Modern Cape Cod home designed by Boston architect Zena Nemetz has wrap-around deck, expanse of glass sliding doors with views of tidal inlet, only 300 yard short walk to gorgeous private association beach, and a short drive to ocean beaches and fresh water ponds. Newly renovated, private tennis courts available to only 17 houses as part of the tennis association. Three full bedrooms - two have queen-sized beds and one has two twin beds. All beds have added memory foam mattress tops for luxurious sleeping comfort. Open room with a futon double bed and sitting area. A flat screen TV each with a DVD player for each living room (2), kids have their own! Two full bathrooms plus a private, beautiful, outdoor shower with a gorgeous water view. Kitchen is fully equipped with lots of pots and pans, a stocked spice cabinet, plenty of mugs, wine glasses and silverware. We provide beach chairs, outdoor chairs and beautiful deck furniture. We have water rafts and toys available for use along with kids toys, books, and games.

Relax on the large wrap around deck, watch the wildlife in this private, secluded, quiet piece of paradise. Situated close to end of dead end road with private association bayside tidal beach (warm water). Brand new private association tennis courts (no additional cost to use). Some say the beach is one of the most beautiful they've ever seen.

Great roads for running or walking. You can walk all around the tidal inlet, or put a boat in the water - kayak, canoe, sailboat, motor boat. Friendly neighborhood where owners respect each other's privacy and peace.

Close to town and facilities and yet feels far away.

Please note: There is a spiral staircase which leads downstairs. This is a beautiful wooden staircase built in the 1960's contemporary style. It does not have risers and can be challenging for some dogs, very young children and elderly people.

The house was designed by a renowned architect. The upstairs emphasizes the community living space - with beautiful open design. If you love the outdoors, wildlife, incredible private beach location - this is the house for you!

The upstairs queen bedroom has air- conditioning. The lower level of the house is partially built into the earth, and thus stays cooler. We have many floor fans available for additional comfort. It is a wonderful area for sleeping, and also includes the sitting area with large flat screen TV. We are committed to using eco-friendly cleaning products.

This is a house built in a Scandinavian/European mid-20th century design style. We like our renters to be very happy and to leave very rested and rejuvenated. We do everything we can to ensure you get the vacation you deserve! This is a place of deep serenity and peacefulness, exquisite wild views, and one of the best private tidal beaches in the world! The sunsets from the beach are extraordinary. If you are lucky you will see the full moon rise and the sun set at the same time. This is a spot where you can see that.

This location will leave you breathless. Watch the boats sail by, grill on the deck at night while taking in a magnificent sunset or take a short stroll along the marsh or in nearby quaint town of Wellfleet, and enjoy some of Wellfleet’s most celebrated restaurants: The Pearl, The Bookstore Café, Ceraldi and Mac’s Shack. Venture just a bit further down the road and you’ll be in the center of downtown Wellfleet enjoying gallery walks and square-dancing nights on the Harbor.

More about Wellfleet: Home to the pristine and impressive National Seashore, haven for artists and literary scholars, heaven for foodies, Wellfleet offers all of the rugged beauty of the Outer Cape with all of the convenience of more cosmopolitan areas. Several stunning ocean beaches are all within a few miles drive, clear kettle ponds are scattered throughout the landscape (and great for little ones), WHAT Theatre and the Wellfleet Drive-In provide live and vintage entertainment respectively, and the Audubon Wildlife Center is fabulous for trail-walking. If all of that activity makes you work up an appetite, stop in at one of many amazing Wellfleet restaurants (PB Boulangerie is a local favorite for those that love truly authentic Parisian bread and pastry.) For even more excitement, Provincetown is a 20-minute drive down Route 6, and boasts great shopping, whale watching and nightlife.

National Seashore nearby

With some 27,700 acres of federally-protected undeveloped uplands, bogs, pitch pine forests, sand dunes, and ponds in six towns (Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown), the Seashore takes up almost half of the town of Wellfleet and about 70 percent of Truro. In addition to six glorious ocean beaches, comprising nearly 40 miles of the finest seashore on the Atlantic coast (see our Beaches chapter), the Cape Cod National Seashore boasts nine hiking trails that meander through varied terrain.

Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

U.S. Rt. 6, Wellfleet

The Massachusetts Audubon Society operates this 1,000-acre-plus tract of salt marsh, woodland, beach, tidal flats, and moorland. What was once a turnip and asparagus farm is now a haven of self-guided nature trails and superb bird watching, along with a natural history day camp for children and week-long field trips for older folk. Guided walks, canoe cruises through Nauset Marsh, Monomoy cruises and seal and whale-watching trips are regularly sponsored. The excursions are extremely popular and book up fast. The one-and-a-half-mile Goose Pond Trail, part of the 5 miles of trails, offers a look at a diversity of habitats and leads to the shore. It's an excellent place for viewing shore birds, hawks, and herons. If you're still getting to know Mother Nature, borrow or purchase a copy of the 32-page Goose Pond Trail plant identification booklet at the visitor center.

About Michael Schvarzkopf

Our family built this house. We were among the first builders on this road on the Cape and have a long history in the area. It is quite magical and special to us. We come from Boston. Our parents have passed away, sadly. The house is now owned by the adult children who live in NY, New England and New Mexico. We work for nonprofits, the UN and own a bakery in Maine.

Michael Schvarzkopf purchased this house in 1965

Why Michael Schvarzkopf chose Wellfleet

The scenic beauty, spectacular beach and area. Wonderful town nearby. Outer cape is unusual and a great area. Many renters have said this location is 'the best on the Cape.'

What makes this house unique

Amazingly quiet and peaceful. Beautiful views and gorgeous beach. You can rest like you haven't in perhaps a long time! And play as well...Our land is proud to be part of the endangered Diamondback Terrapin ecosystem. Each year these turtles nest on the property and are protected by the conservancy with wire covers. Each year there are sightings of the beautiful red foxes too!

Another lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

I had another lovely stay at this beautiful house in its stunning setting. It was hard to leave and return to "real life." The owner and his excellent property manager were highly responsive and cooperative in working with me early in my stay to resolve a utility start-up issue. Hopefully I will be able to return and know that others will enjoy this special place in the meantime.

Absolutely Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here with our 13 year old son and my mother-in-law. There was plenty of room. The house is in such a beautiful area. Quiet street, short walk down to the marsh, and about a 10 minute walk to the private beach.

We went kayaking almost every day. The house is so peaceful with views of the marsh from almost every room. The kitchen is wonderful. Fully equipped!

We hope to return!

Lovely place, much thought given to renters' stay/needs

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from a week at this lovely house. As the photos show, it and its location and view are spectacular. It was amazingly peaceful and beautiful - the wind in the pines, the view of the marsh as the tide changed, the flocks of swallows at dusk ...My old dog and I walked down the path behind the house or the road to the lovely bay beach at least once a day (and drove elsewhere to explore other lovely places nearby). The path itself was lovely and at the beach, there were tidal pools and sandbars and serious clammers, and the water was warm enough to walk barefoot in.

I knew from the photos (and having seen the house in person last spring) that the house was gorgeous but did not then know of the care, attention and anticipation of guests' needs that the owners give. The house was fully stocked with anything you might need, including several thoughtful additions like a small stereo, tons of beach toys/chairs, appliances and utensils and kitchenware (all high end/quality), spices (including my favorite Saigon Cinnamon for adding to coffee), a bucket for washing your sandy feet before entering the house, a book on local/similar houses in the area and their amazing architects, etc. It was chilly weather, as expected during a mostly cloudy late September week, but small space heaters were provided and were helpful. The rental price was an incredible value; the house, like a home (an extra nice one); and one of the owners was immediately responsive anytime I had a question (beginning last May when I first saw the house listing.

I did not need/use the lower level but it was much nicer than I expected (for any lower level and given some other comments about the humidity), and I would certainly stay down there if I had guests (like children or older folks) for whom it would be better to stay on the main level.

I'd return to this house in a heartbeat and very much hope I can and do.

Beautiful. Peaceful, in a lovely neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

After a disastrous two-night stay in another terrible property, we were able to check in to this home on short notice. The owners went out of their way to ensure that the house was clean and in wonderful shape when our party of five wearily arrived. The house is beautiful, with gorgeous views of the marsh that change throughout the day and which, because of the glass walls, was visible throughout daylight. We found the house impeccably clean, fully stocked with all the required kitchen supplies (plus), and a very relaxed, comfortable feel. We would happily return on our next visit. The Schvarzkopf home was a perfect fit for our needs and expectations.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice spot. My husband and I stayed in the second floor bedroom and as you wake just open your eyes you can watch the sun rise, really nice. The home is very well equipped with beach chairs ect. In the kitchen there are an abundant of size pans to cook with . Having the washer and dryer is great as well as the internet. There is a hair dryer in the second floor bath but you have to take down t the other bathroom because it will not fit the out let on the first floor. Any one who goes will enjoy there time. Just wonderful

We are a family of 4, including 2 college-aged girls. We also have an 8 yo yellow lab that we always bring along on vacation. The main level of the home is absolutely beautiful. The ceiling to floor windows allow a gorgeous view of the tidal marsh from anywhere inside, including the downstairs. I was concerned about the staircase from previous reviews, but the treads are wider than most spirals. The gate at the top was perfect to keep the dog from tumbling. The walk to the beach is quick and easy -- I walked the dog every morning down through the marsh path to the beach and back up the road. It's about a 15-20 min loop and the scenery is lovely. My only critique would be the lower level. While the space is large and open and set up well for teens/young adults, the dampness is undeniable. There are 2 dehumidifiers that work very well, but are pretty loud. We tried only running them during the day while we were out, but running them overnight definitely worked better. This may be attributed to the time of year - we just returned yesterday. It may be less damp as warmer weather sets in. The girls said the beds were very comfortable, and both bedrooms are quite large. Overall it was a beautiful, relaxing home. I would definitely stay here again. The location is perfect for sightseeing and it's just a short drive to the many of the ocean beaches. The owners are prompt with responses to any questions or concerns and are very pleasant.
