About Laura Knott
We have been in the tourism industry since 1994 and the Battlefields Inn is our second vacation rental property. We also operate the Harpers Ferry Campgound. Because of our long history in the industry we understand the needs and desires of vistors to our area. Although we operate several other businesses, the vacation rentals are my primary focus personally so you will get the attention to detail you deserve.
Laura Knott purchased this House in 2011
Why Laura Knott chose Harpers Ferry
We purchased this home in 2011 and over the winter of 2011-2012, we totally refurbished this historical home to bring it up to modern standards. It is conveniently located near other Harpers Ferry attractions and our other vacation rental making it an easy combination for larger groups. The house has a huge yard and field out back which gives plenty of area for relaxing or playing. Every year in May we host the Harpers Ferry Half Marathon and kids fun run nearby. The starting line is right out front of the home.
What makes this House unique
The home has been beautifully restored while maintaining the historical character. It is convenient to all the Harpers Ferry attractions some of which are within walking distance yet the home is in a semi rural setting. We have 2 master bedrooms with king beds, one on the main floor that is handicap accessible. We also have an internet ready big screen tv, a hot tub on our covered back porch, gas fireplace in the living room, and a large front porch with rocking chairs for relaxing.

Great house in a gret location. Super hosts...
We were two families that stayed in the Battlefield Inn for a winter weeend. The weather was cold and rainy but the house was clean, cozy and roomy. The gas fire place was wonderful and hot tub a huge hit with adults and kids. We went on multiple hikes very close by and enjoyed battlefield history also very close by (in fact within walking/running distance is the school house ridge battle field). The house is very convenient to Harpers Ferry but not right in town, leaving lots of room for kids to run around outside. We didn't use the fire pit due to rain but hope to come back and do so. Also, would love to come back and enjoy zipline, kayaking and river rafting (all available right next door). There is also multiple places to eat out and grocery shop within 2-3 miles. Definitely a place worth staying for any weekend trips to Harpers Ferry/Apalachian Trails hiking.
Thank you for the great feedback. I’m so glad you and your group enjoyed your stay!
Great place for a family
We arrived after office hours but they had the keys and packet in the mail box. The house is beautiful and spacious, including a nice big kitchen and dining table. So it was a comfortable place to hang out, as well as being close to Harpers Ferry.
family weekend getaway
we had 30 family members in the 2 houses (Battlefield & 1862) and tent camping in the backyards...family came from Florida, Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, Baltimore, and DC area and we had a wonderful weekend together....thanks for being so accomodating
Good house, poor management
The house is spacious, the beds comfortable, and the location good for exploring the area. Unfortunately, we did not have wifi for much of our stay, and this was a major inconvenience. The property managers at River Riders were not very responsive and failed to help with the issue.
family reunion getaway
Perfect set up for 2 families with children - good room arrangements, kitchen well equipped, plenty of space outside to run around. Convenient for River Riders activities and driving to the river or into town. We had a great time!
Great location and amenities
Loved the location, hot tub and fire pit! Laura was wonderful as well! Would definitely recommend this property!
The 'Battlefields Inn' is located in the center of the School House Ridge Battlefield where the largest surrender of Union Troops occurred during the Civil War. Stonewall Jackson's troops marched right through the area where the Inn is located during the Battle of Harpers Ferry in September 1862.
The Inn is also near River Riders offering whitewater rafting, zip line canopy tours, aerial adventure parks, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, biking, teambuilding, summer camps for your kids, hiking, climbing, and fishing.
Free access to the deep water Potomac River for your boat at the Harpers Ferry Campground is included with your rental.
It is 5 miles to the Hollywood Casino at the Charles Town Races, 2 miles to the town of Harpers Ferry, and 15 minutes to Shepherdstown. The Appalachian Trail and entrance to the Harpers Ferry National Park are about 1 mile away.
