What a hidden GEM!

  • 5 of 5

I didn't expect to find such a lovely property in Milwaukie, OR. (Truthfully before this stay I'd never heard of Milwaukie, OR.) Sara has created a wonderful oasis that is easily accessible from Portland. No car? Just catch a train into Union Station and you can ride the MAX to Main st. Milwaukie. Then an easy 5-10 min walk from the station to this peaceful, wonderful place. Enough room for 4 (though 2 is ideal.) Downstairs one bedroom. Comfy furniture. Full kitchen stocked with appliances and basic needs (W/D, Dishwasher, Krueig, blender, pots/pans, spices). Wonderful grounds. Rustic yet amazing custom wood barrel hot tub.

So fun to just watch the river as entertainment. People fishing, kayaking. Wildlife. Eagles, hawks, frogs, fish, geese. I spent a week here and barely heard a sound other than the birds and occasional motorboat.

I loved it. Next time I need to go down to PDX this will be my home base.

Lovely Property

  • 5 of 5

With so many interesting plants to enjoy, this beautifully landscaped property also has 15' plus hedges on both sides of its spacious yard which creates a wonderfully private experience. Huge windows provide a fabulous view of the lake... comfortable bed... many amenities... This serene getaway is situated in a quiet neighborhood with a walking trail on each side. We loved it!

Overbearing Property Owner

  • 2 of 5

The property is beautiful but had to interact with the homeowner way too much who was pretty passive aggressive and really took away from our stay. The house isn’t soundproof at all so other guests staying in the house were really bothersome. Every time they wheezed or used the bathroom, you got to be a part of it and feel like you were there. They had a cooler or something they were getting ice out of all night, letting the top drop and clunk all night. My wife was visiting me and pup for first time in 3 weeks on a long 4 month trip. I corresponded with owner in advance about my dog and importance of visit after not seeing my wife for so long. Seemed fine before arrival. Once arrived had way too many interactions with owner. When we arrived, first few days Every time we went outside the owner was there reviewing something or else about stay she wanted to talk about. When not there, she was calling us. Otherwise there was a worker there so no real isolation. The night before the other guests arrived, owner was vacuuming their unit 10pm - again it’s not at all soundproof. We left our pup while we went to have brunch. I’ll grant that in the fine print this was not permitted. It could have easily been communicated in the many messages about pup from me to owner in advance of meeting but was left in fine print. Once we left the pup for a bite, suddenly the overly present owner could only leave pretty nasty notes staked to the door and follow up email - i guess suddenly the phone she seemed to call on way too much in beginning was now to difficult (or direct) to give a courtesy call on. She then followed up on payment so we had this like attack type of feeling. It was simply a missing of msg because every other VRBO we used i thought payment was just taken from card on file. I just expected it to pull. So the whole time i wanted to reunite with my wife, we dealt with a very petty and overbearing owner or geriatric gassy neighbors through the walls. Also, owner grows weed on the balcony so whole back deck reeks of pot. If you want to relive your first trip home from college and your mom was unnecessarily treating you like a 7th grade, this rental is for you. If you are successful in your 30’s and want a nice weekend with your little fam without nonsense, you should look elsewhere.
