Mexico City Gem
What a great location for exploring Mexico City. Just a few blocks from the Zocalo as well as great shopping and restaurants. Petra was a great hostess and provided everything we could possibly need for our time in Mexico City!
Thanks, Melissa! Hope you got to Merida alright and are having a good time there also. Saludos, Petra
Fabulous apartment in Center of Historic Disrict
Petra is a wonderful host and great walking tour guide. The apartment was huge and fully equipped with anything we could need: guide books, magazines, hats, umbrellas, cooking equipment, spices, breakfast foods.... I was with three other senior women and am looking forward to renting again with my family.
Thank you, Connie. for your lovely review. If I was wonderful, so were you. Such enjoyable guests! Can't wait for your return. Meanwhile, pls take care in these trying times. Saludos,
Top floor, large, Centro Historico- do it!
We really liked this place. The star is Petra, the owner of this top floor huge apartment. She lives across the way in another apartment thus was close by if we needed her but did not intrude on our stay at all. She is charming, cares about her guests, and the building is lovely. Built in the 1940's, it has charm and the apartment is very large. We were two couples- one of us had an en suite bathroom, and the other had a bathroom next to their room. There is an outdoor veranda for views to the Belles Artes Palace and west- it's a narrow veranda and filled with happy plants, so no real place to sit outside (other than singly on stools). the rest of the apartment is very large and light, and very secure with a guarded entrance, key fob entry to the elevators, and good locks. We particularly liked how well Petra had the place stocked; everything from paper products to bathroom stuff was there, which we have found lacking in some VRBO's. Breakfast was provided- eggs, yogurts, Mexican pastries, coffee restocked every day by the housekeepers who have been with Petra for years. Speaking of which- the housekeepers had a very well stocked honor bar, with tequilas, mezcals, other liquors, and many bottles of decent wine. There is a notebook nearby, with a price list and a sheet to log what you consume- then you pay up at the end in pesos. The prices were all VERY reasonable- doesn't appear to be any markup. The neighborhood is very central and walkable to the Zocalo, Belle Artes, and many museums. 2 doors down is a bakery, and next to that a restaurant called Bajio which is a chain but also very good. For a little more upscale try Limosneros a block away. We really enjoyed both Petra and her wonderful home.
Thank you, Barbara, for taking the time to write such a detailed lovely review. I really appreciate it because it helps prospective guests to decide if the apartment - and their stay in it - will meet their expectations. I am glad you had a good time, and I certainly enjoyed having you as our guests. Do come back!
Great property in Mexico City
Four of us recently spent several nights here and had a wonderful experience. The location is great - walking distance to several attractions and easy access to cabs/ride sharing. The apartment itself is very spacious and ideally set up for two couples with separate wings that provide lots of privacy. Petra is incredibly gracious and offered great suggestions on where to go/what to see (it was our first visit to Mexico City.) She even left us some nice little parting gifts and arranged transportation for us. I would happily recommend staying here on your visit to Mexico City.
Experiencing Día de Muertos in Mexico City has been on my bucket list for years and being lucky enough to reserve Petra’s penthouse made the trip perfect. The penthouse is impeccable - spacious and beautiful with everything you could possible need and close to everything in Centro Historico. The view from the terrace is spectacular, and we started and ended every day there.
Breakfast is great with a variety of fruits, pastries, cereal, cocoa, coffee and tea. Snacks and drinks are available at reasonable costs. The beds are comfortable. Everything is immaculate.
But the real jewel is Petra. She was a fabulous hostess, offering us tips on places to go, restaurants – anything we wanted (or needed) to know. She took us to the perfect place to watch the parade and introduced us to several of her friends. My biggest mistake was not taking advantage of her extensive knowledge of the city before arriving.
I cannot thank Petra enough for her hospitality. She is awesome
Private Mexican cooking lessons, meals prepared by private cook, Spanish classes, massages, tequila and mezcal tasting -- all in your apartment. For details, please contact owner.

About Petra Fischer
Petra, the German owner (she speaks German, English, Spanish and French) has lived and worked as a journalist in Mexico for nearly 30 years. When authorities began to spruce up the decaying Centro Histórico more than ten years years ago, she bought two apartments on the top floor of a stately building between the Zocalo and Bellas Artes. Before moving in, she totally remodeled, modernized and redecorated both properties – one to live in herself, the other to put up friends, relatives and paying guests when visiting Mexico.
