The Lake House: Private Lakefront Escape Resort-Style •Hike•Swim•Paddle•ATV•Rest
The Lake House on Bass
Experience the Minnesota lake getaway you've been dreaming about.
Tucked among the pines on a quiet lake, The Lake House on Bass offers the perfect blend of Northwoods seclusion, thoughtful hospitality, and resort-style amenities. Here, days are spent swimming in clear, refreshing water, fishing from the dock, paddling the shoreline by kayak or paddleboard, relaxing on the beach, and gathering around the fire as the day winds down.
Perfectly situated between Detroit Lakes and Park Rapids, you'll enjoy easy access to some of Minnesota's best shopping, dining, festivals, trails, and attractions while returning each evening to the peace and privacy of your own lakefront retreat. Spend the day exploring Detroit Lakes' shops, restaurants, beaches, seasonal attractions, and the famous Trolls, or enjoy the charm of Park Rapids with its boutiques, local eateries, and classic Minnesota small-town atmosphere.
Summer is all about lake life. Start your day with a cup of coffee by the lake as loons call across the water and the morning sun rises through the pines. Spend afternoons exploring the shoreline with our kayaks, paddleboards, paddleboat, swim raft, and water toys, then gather around the fire in the evening to share stories and make memories. The spacious front and back yards provide plenty of room for family games, friendly competition, kids to run and play, and the simple moments that often become favorite vacation memories. Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, everything you need is waiting right outside your door.
Fall may be the area's best-kept secret. Just ½ mile from the property, the Smokey Hills State Forest trail system offers miles of scenic ATV and UTV trails winding through forests painted in brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold. Crisp mornings, colorful drives, cozy sweatshirts, campfires under the stars, breathtaking autumn scenery, and fewer crowds make this one of the most beautiful times of year to visit northern Minnesota. Bring your machines, spend the day exploring the trails, and return to the comfort of the lake house for relaxing evenings around the fire and time well spent with family and friends.
Winter transforms The Lake House into a peaceful snowy escape. Enjoy direct access to snowmobile trails, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and quiet evenings warming up around the fire with hot cocoa. For an even more memorable experience, guests can add our discounted 4-person fish house and spend the day chasing crappie, sunfish, bass, and northern pike on Bass Lake.
What makes The Lake House special isn't just the location—it's the experience. From the little touches throughout the home to the outdoor amenities designed for gathering, relaxing, and exploring, we've created a place where families reconnect, friends make memories, and guests experience the very best of Minnesota in every season.
To help you truly unplug and reconnect, The Lake House does not offer Wi-Fi. Many of our guests tell us this becomes one of their favorite parts of the stay—a chance to step away from the distractions of everyday life and focus on the people, conversations, and experiences around them. A Smart TV is available, and guests are welcome to connect using their own hotspot or mobile device if desired.
Whether you're planning a family vacation, fishing trip, girls' getaway, couples retreat, ATV adventure, or peaceful escape from everyday life, The Lake House on Bass offers a true Up North experience that's both private and unforgettable.

Beautiful lake- quiet, could have been the time of year, but we pretty much had the lake to ourselves. Great amenities with water toys, yard games and fire pits. Beds were comfy and had plenty of space for us. Very clean- would definitely recommend!
The absolute best VRBO we have ever stayed at. The attention to detail went way above and beyond. The fising, the view , the Tranquility wasfantastic! We will definitely return!
The lake house was not only in a gorgeous spot it was exactly everything our family of 6 & pups needed for making memories and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. The second I stepped on the porch the stillness & fresh pine scent brought me peace. The lake house is the perfect mix of all the creature comforts, exceptionally clean, comfy beds with a great layout. The lake house is very well stocked home along side the kind of beauty only nature can bring. There was absolutely everything we could have needed or wanted in the house. We ice fished, saw Eagles, burned campfires, played in the huge open area with the dogs, and had a great time as a family. The hosts were just as exceptional! 10/10 recommend!
It was a great relaxing, vacation,my granddaughter loved the lake we are in our 70's but enjoyed the quiet and clean place

On a scale of 1-10, I would give this place an 11. Beautiful location, clean and with plenty to do. Great location from which to take day trips and still get back in time to enjoy the lake with kayaks provided. Perfect weather the whole time and no mosquitoes. We definitely would choose this gem if back in the area again.

Very clean, very comfortable. This place has everything you need but food! Plan ahead for food as there are no stores or restaurants in the area. We basically had the lake to ourselves swimming, fishing, and kayaking. The water was very clean. Very quiet and secluded. Nothing else to see here ,like us, your plan is to sit and relax the whole week. No tourist traps or people! Highly recommend to get away from it all!

My three friends and I had a great Ladies Weekend at The Lake House! One of the few times when renting that every step of the way was a positive and pleasant experience. Angel was super accommodating when there was an issue on my part for the second half of payment. First impression when pulling into the yard was great. We were even more impressed once we entered the house (and delighted to find the welcome bag!) to find it very clean, lots of towels and bedding and very nicely decorated. We didn't find anything that didn't work or anything that wasn't provided. Beautiful and peaceful view of the lake. A really nice stay!
We stayed late October. Beautiful setting, yet would like to return a little earlier in the season to be able to enjoy the water and all the amenities this listing offers! The house is very welcoming, comfortable, CLEAN, wonderful linens, etc. Nothing broken or missing that we know of. So great that they leave spaces open for you to put your things - walk-in closets, uncluttered tables, kitchen island, large dining table, etc. Three ladies really enjoyed our stay there, didn't need a single thing. Will DEFINITELY return.

We loved our stay at The Lake House. It was just as the pictures show. The house was cute and had great sunset views. We fished and were able to kayak on the open water. It was so peaceful and a great stay to get away from busy day to day life. We saw lots of wildlife and went for a couple nearby hikes. I enjoyed bonfires at night, baths in the big bathtub, sunrises and sunsets down but the lake, and read and drank coffee by the lake on quiet mornings listening to nature wake up around us. Such a great spot. We plan to go back for sure. Thank you for a great getaway. You have a gorgeous spot there! 💓

Pictures don’t do it justice. The serenity and privacy of this best kept secret in MN needs to go on your bucket list but only if you want to find respite from your mundane life of work and noise. There were so many pleasant surprises throughout the home that made it so separate from anywhere we’ve been. How adequately this place was supplied was meticulously thought through. Hard to come across anywhere that exceeds expectations. The water is as clear as can be. Had the best weather conditions and swimming and kayaking were the bonus of making time in the amazing quaint lake so special. Host was quick to reply when I had a question prior to arriving. Nothing can hold us back from returning.
Our stay was from July 17-21st. The four of us longtime gaggle of girlfriends found it difficult to leave.

3 girlfriends from high school and our girls stayed for three nights and four days and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The property was peaceful and quiet—the perfect getaway. The home was incredibly well-stocked with everything we needed and more: a fully equipped kitchen (including an ice machine, common seasonings, olive oil, plenty of pots, pans, plates, utensils, large bowls, wine opener, even a fun emoji pancake pan!), coffee and tea, laundry supplies, towels (so many towels!), comfy blankets and super comfortable beds. There were thoughtful extras throughout the home, like games, a TV with a VCR (bring your DVDs!), two beautiful fireplaces with lake views, and tons of outdoor amenities: firewood, water toys, life jackets, yard games, and even fishing supplies. The girls (8-10 years old) were catching little fish right at shore with a net and a paddleboard. We stopped counting after 20 fish because it was happening so often! They didn’t miss a thing—there were first aid kits, sunscreen, and bug spray, too. There’s no Wi-Fi, which turned out to be one of our favorite things—it really helped us unplug and enjoy quality time together.Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for comfort, nature, and a peaceful escape. We’d absolutely stay here again! Can’t wait!

What a wonderful place to stay and relax! The house is a good size and has just about everything you need, from a fully equipped kitchen to the shed full of outdoors toys. The kids really loved the kayaks, paddleboards and especially the pedalboat. The fishing was good and there were very few people on the lake; most of the time we were the only people on the lake. The water seemed a bit chilly for swimming, but it did not stop the kids from being in the water and on the swimming raft.
The yard is large and very private, with two different firepit areas (one in the yard and one down the stairs next to the lake).
It was so very nice to find a basket full of snacks and a handwritten letter to our family from the host. What a special surprise! They also had a small box of "essential items in case you forgot anything". There were so many details that Nathan and Angel thought of for their guests!
Cellular service was a bit spotty for our carrier (Mint), but At&T seemed to be fine when our nephew stopped in for a visit.
I would highly recommend this place. We all think this was one of the very best houses we have rented we have been in. Thank you Nathan and Angel!
Absolutely loved this property - beautiful view and location! It is located right on a beautiful quiet lake. It was fully stocked with practically everything we needed and more. The hosts were fantastic with communication/quick to respond, easy to work with, understanding, and it was such an enjoyable weekend with family. You will have everything you need for a great lakeside stay - kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boat, life jackets, tubes, fishing gear, corn hole, boat with a trolling motor (of note: takes 12-18 hours to charge the battery, found that out after the stay from the hosts - battery died on us while in the far end of the lake and had to row back. There are oars in the boat to use as a backup, which we were thankful for), fully stocked kitchen with pots/pans, etc., cozy bedrooms, 2 firepits with wood and chairs and solar powered lights, and much more. Angel and Nathan have put a lot of work into this property and it shows. Would 10/10 recommend and look forward to coming back here again someday! Also, easy to get to with the directions given by host and phone GPS. Very pretty drive from the Twin cities, ~4 hours away!
While there, check out Ed at Streepers Kennels nearby - we went on a chariot ride and had a great time, bumpy but scenic and a unique experience, would recommend. Heard that the dog mushing rides are fun to do here in the winter.
Also, Ice Cracking lodge has some great food and drinks!

Hi there! We're the fourth generation of our family to own this lake property, and we love it here. We've made so many great memories over the years, and we're excited to be able to share it with you.
The lake house is located on a small, quiet lake with access to some great trail systems. It's the perfect place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We like to keep things casual around the lake and end our evenings with an evening fire. We've recently updated the lake house, but kept some of the original charm. We want you to feel like you're part of our family when you stay here, relaxed and comfortable!
We looking forward to hearing from you soon!
