This property, like most in Pine Island, is very beautiful by itself as well as for its location. A feature that distinguishes it from most others in the area is its soothing inside wall pastel colors whereas those of most other properties are plain white. Another distinguishing feature is that its spacious top decking wraps the house around the east, south and west, allowing one to enjoy the desired combination of sun, shade, winds and sights throughout the day! The open fields behind and in front of it provide open vistas and privacy. A pleasant five-minute walk takes one to the beach by any of three different ways. And this year (2013) we found all the TV systems highly upgraded, with a large plasma screen and sound system in the great room, and flat screens in most other rooms. In addition, most kitchen wares have been replaced with new ones, and beddings in the bedrooms also were new. The great room furnishings are soft and very comfortable. The owner of this property surely has invested in making Sirenetta a most satisfying and relaxing resort! The only inconvenience we experienced (and which likely applies to many or most homes around the OBX) was several toilet clogs, we don't know if because of toilet design or water pressure. And unfortunately the plunger didn't fit the toilet design well, providing little suction power.
Both this home and this rental company were the worst I have experienced in the 15 years my family has been vacationing on the Outer Banks.
Upon arrival we found that the kitchen was dirty. The appliances and surfaces were covered with grease and the floor was sticky. The kitchen sink faucet looked as though nobody had ever so much as wiped it down. Disgusting! I called Elan immediately and they sent a cleaner over who attempted to clean the greasy surfaces with moderate success. I also informed them that the carpet in the main living area was VERY stained, so the following day the sent over a carpet cleaner. The home was also completely covered with dead bugs, as was all the deck furniture. They sent a team to power wash the house and furniture, so at least it was usable. In addition, the front door was nearly impossible to open and close, some of the sliders were stuck, one shower drained slowly, another sink drained so slowly it nearly overflowed, he dishwasher leaked all over the kitchen floor and the diverter in one shower didn't work well. The master bath is very odd...it has two toilets (no, it's not a bidet). The shower in the master bath is full of mildew, which the cleaner attempted to remove with a bleach spray, to no avail. While I appreciate that Elan addressed these issues in a timely fashion, they never should have been issues to begin with. These are all things that should have been noticed and attended to by the cleaning and inspection staff prior to our check in, as most have obviously been ongoing problems and didn't suddenly occur.
The home looks very pretty in the pictures, but is not well kept and the grounds are unkempt. On the bright side, the pool is nice.
Upon checkout, I informed Elan's staff that this was the worst experience I've had in the OBX and all they said was that they'd look into it. No apology...nothing. They acted as though they couldn't have cared less. They actually seemed annoyed that I had "complained" about these very legitimate issues. I have rented from other companies and with two different companies an issue arose, they resolved it and offered me a coupon toward my next stay and a refund of the reservation fee. I appreciated that, as it shows that they were truly interested in ensuring we were happy with their company. Elan does not care and I will never use them again. STAY AWAY!
We stayed in this house over Labor Day weekend for a 4-night stay. Elan (realtor company) was very accommodating and I think they did a good job of working out scheduling conflicts and working with us on a shortened stay. When we arrived at the realtor office, the staff were very professional, and picking up the keys was an incredibly smooth process. They provided us with a branded bag of amenities like a roll of paper towels, and some other miscellaneous necessities that we would need for the kitchen.
Check-in is at 3PM, and when we arrived at that time, there was 1 cleaning person who was still cleaning the place due to the place being completely trashed by the previous tenants. This wasn't the fault of the cleaning person; the place was just very dirty and required extra time to really clean. Because there was so much work remaining, my wife actually went in and helped her clean the place for 30-45 min while the kids went to the beach.
The rooms were all spacious and the amenities were great. Everything was as described in the listing description pertaining to inside the house. Rooms were clean with new linens and plenty of towels. Kitchen was standard, but utensils were disorganized and haphazardly put away. Bathrooms needed further cleaning, and there was black "gunk" on the shower heads and faucets that can't be described in any other way. The house was set up very well with speakers wired throughout the house and great multimedia access and display.
But the grounds were very unkept and we found a lot of trash surrounding the property. There were scattered plastic cups and bottles, the pool was not cleaned, the hot tub was full of sand, and the grounds were overrun with weeds, old toys that weren't put away, and various pieces of trash. Hoses were old and obviously run over by cars as the ends were flattened.
Overall, the house itself was great, and the location was perfect for us, as it's close to the beach while secluded to provide privacy. The grounds need some TLC though, and I think the cleaning crew probably needed more time to clean the place.
My family rented this place July 4th week and while a busy week for the OBX to begin with, this place was well-situated between Currituck Golf Club & shops, Corolla Light House, the quaint waterfront of Duck and Nags Head. If all you want to do is sit back and relax, you can! Whether by the pool or at the beach for the afternoon, take your pick. Read a few books (yes, a few!). Go play golf, shop, or ride a bike. In fact, we biked to the Currituck Club shops for coffee one morning & biked back. Awesome. The facility itself is well-appointed and perfect for a large family or two family groups. The kids had a ball in the pool, at the beach, or watching TV in the den. The dining room table is HUGE. Play cards, do magic tricks, or eat. Take your pick! Very VERY comfortable. Would definitely stay there again!
