About this property
Stunning, Romantic Cottage on Slope of Hualalai
On the Kona side, safe and away from the volcanic activity, the Cottage awaits you.
The perfect, peaceful getaway for those on a honeymoon or looking for a relaxing, romantic experience. This warm, welcoming, newly-built and finely crafted studio cottage provides modern comfort while retaining the spirit of old Hawaii. This mountain paradise is surrounded by native trees and a tropical garden. The Cottage at Ohia Place is situated in North Kona, at a cool 1600' elevation on Mount Hualala'i in Kaloko Mauka.
The cottage is in close proximity to Kailua Kona village, shopping, restaurants, beaches, activities, the harbor, hiking trails and upcountry golf courses. The airport is 15 minutes away. Your host, Gale, lives on the 1.5 acres shared with the Cottage.
The accommodation features open beam wood ceilings, ohia hardwood floors, mahogany and granite kitchen, brand-new queen -sized bed (with a Memory Foam topper), large slate shower, fully equipped kitchen and a lovely lanai that enhances the inside/outside lifestyle of Hawaii.
The cottage is 720 sq feet under roof, including the lanai.
Your host will provide you with details about the many island activities, tours, sight-seeing, beaches and cultural experiences as well as shopping and restaurants, all within an easy driving distance from your home.
Born and raised in Kona, the host's father was one of the founders of the sports fishing business in Kona in the early 50s; she and her family remain closely involved with the fishing community. She has spent her professional life welcoming guests and connecting them to the rich traditions of the islands. We love the island of Hawaii: the vastness, the colorful and unique local customs, the sunshine and sunsets of the Kona Coast, and the hunting and fishing traditions of the Big Island.
A vintage picnic basket is available for your pleasure. If you're headed out to explore the island. You are welcome to use a cold bag for shopping, cooler, beach chairs and towels.
This is a place you will call home... will want to remember... and will return to.

We had a lovely one-week stay in The Cottage. It was immaculate, very well put together, and in an ideal location. Our host was very kind, and made us feel right at home. We will definitely stay there again!
We have stayed in many 5 star/ Premier host homes and this by far was our favorite. Gale went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and right at home. Many extra personal touches such as fresh baked banana nut bread and Island fresh fruit. We could not have felt more at home during our stay.
Gale was absolutely incredible—truly one of the best hosts we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The cottage was an absolute dream: spotless, beautifully maintained, and in a perfect location for exploring the Big Island. Gale went above and beyond by providing thoughtful recommendations that made our trip even more special. She was so kind, responsive, and genuinely a delight to interact with. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would return in a heartbeat.
Our stay was amazing! The cottage is super cute and so well maintained. She had everything you could possibly think of to make your stay perfect, from sunscreen to guide books to umbrellas and robes. Gale was the perfect host and was always available for any questions we had. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Gale was a lovely hostess offering a pristine, incredibly well stocked cottage leaving nothing out. She has thought of all your needs. We received a basket of fresh fruit, homemade banana bread and coffee to start our stay. We made our breakfast every day in her well stocked kitchen and sat on the lanai with views of the ocean in distance and lovely garden surrounding the home. It was a good location for driving to all parts of the island and a car is required for this stay. Nighttime was filled with nature sounds which didn’t bother us at all - in fact was quite peaceful. There is no ac so with windows open sounds of rainforest animals (birds, frogs, etc), fill the air. We loved that but something to consider. The property is gated so you feel quite safe. Gale provided beach towels, beach chairs, a cooler for a day at the beach, and she had a bunch of wonderful guidebooks on the island. The kitchen was fully stocked if you want to cook in and the washer/dryer was great for continuing travelers. We highly recommend this property for couples as it truly is a quaint romantic cottage. We are so happy we found it!
This was a repeat stay for us because we absolutely love Gale’s property. Best spot on the Big Island because it’s close to town, but still accessible if you want to go to Waimea, Hilo or Volcano National Park. Very private spot with a beautiful lanai where we enjoyed breakfast each day. Absolutely favorite vacation spot and we will be back! The property is so clean and has everything you need to have an enjoyable time - love that Gale thinks of everything - from banana bread to welcome us, to beach gear and coolers, to kitchen implements and various coffee makers.
This place is beautiful, Gale is so sweet and helpful and her property is the most relaxing place to stay. We hope to come back and definitely stay here again.
The cottage is exceptionally well maintained and very well equipped. Gale met us on the night we arrived and provided instructions on everything. She obviously takes great pride in the property. The cottage is an excellent place to relax in privacy. We spent several days simply sitting on the porch and reading. We highly recommend to any couple seeking peace and quiet.
We loved our time at the cottage! Gale is an incredible host, the cottage is just as gorgeous as the pictures and immaculate. We loved our morning coffees on the lanai and the lush surrounding gardens.
Gale welcomed us warmly. Everything was more beautiful roomier and more comfortable than I even hoped. It was hard to venture away from the idyllic sights and sounds of the cottage that sits at the perfect elevation for warm sunny days without the high heat and wind at sea level. We kept busy though, touring the salt, abalone and seahorse sites nearby. Also highly recommend snorkeling in the clear waters at twostep and visiting the city of refuge historical site and tidepools next to it.We also had an amazing day of snorkeling and whale watching on the Hula Kai with Fairwinds, a 5 star outfit in every way. I forgot to ask Gale for her banana bread recipe-the best ever! Her family's history and significance on the island was fascinating, if you can get her to share it. Till we meet again,Mahalo Gale!
The cottage and grounds are very special. Quiet, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. Gale was a wonderful host and we enjoyed our welcome gifts of fruit and the best banana bread on the islands.
Prestine cottage on a manicure landscape, with full luxurious amenities. Perfect romantic get away.Great location to get around the island.I our host Gale, greeted us as we arrived and gave us a full rundown of her cottage.Everything was picture perfect and we made lasting memories on our visit to the Big Island.
The cottage was everything we hoped for and more. The cottage was beautifully decorated with many fresh bouquets of plants and flowers. The garden was enchanting. Gale the Host was thoughtful and kind. She greeted us with homemade applebanana bread, a bowl of fresh homegrown papaya, lemon applebanana, and lime. Gale gave us a tour of the entire property and gracious throughout our stay.
The cottage was beautiful, very nicely decorated, and well supplied with everything. Gale was a wonderful host, with lots of helpful suggestions and advice, and interesting local lore as well. We loved the location especially - close to Kailua Kona, but out in the country too! The little road the cottage is on was perfect for daily walks.
This property is a true retreat. The house was well beautiful and stocked. It is in such a peaceful location that we felt like we had a secret little private oasis. The property manager was fabulous as well! Would definitely stay here again.
