Our comfortable 1000 Island Park cottage sleeps 10 and is ideal for large or extended families. It offers two Master bedrooms on the ground floor, each with queen sized beds. There are two full baths, a third bedroom downstairs with a set of bunk beds, and a large loft bedroom for the kids upstairs. It is located within easy walking distance to everything in the Park, yet it is in a quite area away from the 'packed like sardines' cottages where you can't have a conversation without all the neighbors overhearing. This cottage offers privacy and lots of room to spread out while overlooking the State Park Golf Course, tennis courts and a large forever green area for the kids to run and play in within sight of the cottage. It's also 200 yards away from the Park's 'Swimming Cove', a sandy beach, shallow swimming area with a floating swim platform. The cottage has a laundry room, pantry, kitchen with microwave, stove, coffee maker, etc., a Fischer wood stove, a dining area and living room with cable tv, dvd, cd stereo system and Wi-Fi. The wrap around porch has wicker furnishings, picnic table, porch swing, rocking chairs, and two weber charcoal grills.
Kickback, relax and enjoy swaying on the wicker porch swing with a cocktail in one hand and an arm around your honey and just watch the world go by. Or sit in the shade of the porch and read a good book. If the weather turns bad, enjoy one of a hundred movies from the cottage DVD library, or play one of the board games available in the cottage with the kids. There's something for everyone to do.
Our cottage is named 'Scratch Pad' after the family printing business and has been owned by my family for over 30 years. You'll find that it has everything to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Grill a great steak on the weber, dine al fresco at the picnic table on the porch, then take a leisurely stroll down to the Guzzle for an ice cream cone for dessert. Afterwards, walk down the street to the Tabernacle for a free movie before heading back to your cottage for a great nights sleep.
If you enjoy golf, there is a fun 9 hole course just yards away from the cottage. If you're looking for more of a challenge, a 10 minute drive to the opposite end of the Island brings you to the Thousand Island Club. Here you will find two PGA caliber 18 hole courses, Clubhouse, Pro Shop and casual and fine dining restaurants.
Just 10-15 minutes over the bridge on the Mainland, are the towns of Alexandria Bay and Clayton where you can find a great assortment of good restaurants, bars, and night clubs for dancing, music, or shows. From these towns you can also take an international boat tour to Boldt Castle on Heart Island or to Singer Castle on Dark Island. Or find a fishing guide to go after a record Muskie, Pike or Bass, or just enjoy one of the Guide's famous 'Shore Dinners'. You can also visit the largest antique boat museum in the world, where you can take a ride on an antique speed boat. You will also find all sorts of shops, boat rentals, go carting, hot air balloon rides, winery tours, Nature center, the Aquazoo, Mazeland, live concerts and shows, and one of the last remaining drive-in movie theatres in New York State.
A 10 minute drive from the cottage will also bring you to the Canadian border. Just a few minutes drive past, you will find the towns of Brockville, Gananoque, and Kingston. Here you can find the Charity Casino, Fort Henry with elaborate military, fireworks, and fife and drum shows put on by college cadets, or Upper Canada Village with daily reenactments of days gone by. You will also find dirt track races, water park, indoor rock climbing walls, bike trails, trolly tours. kayak rentals, and ghost walks, along with many more great restaurants, shops, and entainment opportunities
T.I. Park itself has a lot to offer. You won't even have to leave the Park for a fine dining restaurant, pub, boutique gift shops, museum with tours, library with childrens story hours, fishing or sunbathing at the Main Dock, Mass and Protestant church services on Sundays in the Tabernacle, Rock Ridges nature hiking trail, daily adult supervised kids games, yacht club with sailing and kayaking lessons and races, Marina with gas and bait, ice cream parlor, grocery, golf cart rentals, and numerous community events. Take advantage of all of these, or just rock on your porch in the shade and enjoy the fresh air and good conversation with family and friends. Scratch Pad offers it all.

Our 'Scratch Pad' cottage has been owned and enjoyed by our family for over 30 years. Before my folks could afford their own cottage in this 'Garden of the Gods' as the Native Americans called it, we rented cottages in the Park. We never missed a summer. When an opportunity came up to buy a cottage, they invested. A few years later, as our family grew and kids began starting their own families, we bought what is now Scratch Pad, to handle us all. When purchased, the cottage received a near total make over to what it looks like today.
Matt Withers purchased this cottage in 1980
It's a family affair for us at the Park. I have two sisters, a brother, and my mother each owning their own cottage in the Park. My wife and I, along with our three children, also have a second place where we spend our summers, allowing us to rent Scratch Pad. We've hosted weddings, family reunions, Thanksgivings and Christmases, and all kinds of celebrations at this cottage. My family loves to come up in the winter to stay at the cottage and snowmobile around town. It's quiet, beautiful, and toasty warm in the cottage with our wood burning Fischer stove.
My kids enjoy inviting their friends up to T.I.Park for a visit and being able to introduce them to the natural beauty and fun of 'the River' and of Thousand Island Park. They love to tube behind our boat, paddle their double kayak over to South Bay and back, fish for 'Sunny's' off the dock, swim at the Cove, sunbath at the Main Dock with the other teens, work at the movie theater, and meet their friends at the fire pit at night. My wife and I enjoy inviting friends over after dinner to sit on our porch with a glass of wine or two, to talk, tell stories and jokes, or play cards or a board game til it's too dark to see. We also enjoy walking up to the Wellesley Hotel for a great meal served on their porch, joining trivia night in the Pub, taking visitors for boat rides to point out the famous landmarks on the River, going to the Clayton Opera House for a show, and making a run across the border for the great Canadian beer we can't get in the US.
We've seen the Northern Lights several times from the porch of Scratch Pad and that never grows old. You can just see the lights of the bridge too. We've taken advantage of all the room around us by flying kites, playing wiffle ball, tossing a frisbee, setting up a volley ball net for a family tournament, tossing lawn darts, or learning to ride bikes. There's plenty of room to do just about anything at Scratch Pad.
Our family group gathered for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the island. The cottage was perfectly located, close to everything we needed. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The wrap around porch was great for lounging and enjoying the ambiance. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed. It was great having the washer and dryer to avoid hauling lots of dirty laundry back home. Matt was very welcoming on our arrival and advised us of local attractions that we should take in. Everyone we met on the island were so friendly and shared the history and unique features of this charming place. And everyone knew Scratch Pad! Seems like we shared a piece of history for that week and we will definitely be back again.
We really enjoy our stay at the cottage. Great location for relaxing at the River. Kitchen was fully equipped with all you needed. The location was great being close to the cove for swimming and having some tennis courts right across the street. A lot of room for grandchildren to play. Very quiet at all the times of the day. Very clean and it was a bless to have a washer and dryer. That upstairs loft was great for the grandchildren who loved it and there parents joined them for a few nights. We enjoy the wrap around porch and spent plenty of time sitting on it and enjoying the great weather. We are look forward to renting it again next summer.
My family - now grown and dispersed - loves the Thousand Islands and misses our regular forays there. Scratch Pad was the perfect place to gather again for a fabulous two weeks. The description is exactly right and helped convince us this would be a great place for little kids - the open field across the "street" was the site of ad hoc softball games; the swimming hole, playground, pavilion, and ice cream shop were the perfect distance away; the tennis courts were a great place for a little practice; the golf course was so close; the neighbors weren't right on top of us; and the layout of the house was perfect for the variety of families with kids and babies of various ages. The porch swing was a great favorite for all and we ended up eating most meals on the deck. Oh, and the hose bib in the front yard provided great fun for the little boys! The large number of fans were greatly appreciated and came in very handy during the 90+ degree days! Also, the boat slip that can be rented is absolutely protected and very accessible. The only little problem we had was with the refrigerator but Matt and his wife responded quickly to provide us with coolers and advice until he was able to make sure it was working properly. We had a GREAT time and loved Scratch Pad.
Very nice cottage, well maintained, clean and close to the lake. Though it was hot, but the owner has provided us with so many fans which helped us very much. The 2nd floor attic had so many beds. Our kids enjoyed the library reading books and watching the DVDs. Our parents enjoyed the porch. Would defnitely come back to this cottage if given a chance.
What a great way to jump start Summer 2013! This charming cottage was everything we hoped for and had a large play area and tennis court across the street. Our grand kids loved the 2nd floor "dorm" and it easily accommodated our group of 10, including enough seating on the sectional sofa. Easy walking distance to The Guzzle and the beach. If you don't feel like walking, rent a golf cart located near the hotel. Thanks so much, Matt.
Great location. Good facility. Lots of beds. Near to tennis courts, water and alexandria bay. Owner is very nice. Will stay again...
