Apartment in the heart of Lake Como, enchanting situation, many trips possible
- english, french, italian
Hello I’m Andrea, a 100% ‘laghée’ (It’s a local and funny word to indicate a man born in the area of Como lake, with ancestors of the same origin, grown up in the typical atmosphere of this region, loving its traditions and culture). I live in Perledo near the house I rent. I’m an host since 2010. I know my area very well and I’m happy to provide my guests with all the suggestions (about pathways, typical foods, sightseeing, panoramic places) they may need during their stay. I’m an employee in a bank. I like hiking, going out with friends, meeting people and good food. I also own an olive-grove with about eighty olive-trees. I produce olive-oil for my own use. Perledo D.O.P. olive-oil is excellent and famous all over the world!!!

Authentic and beautiful!
If you're not into the big tourist traps and want to see the real Italy, this is a great place to stay. Andrea (the owner) has a wealth of information and suggestions available... or you can just hang out and enjoy the local church bells and constant breezes. Ferry boats and trains are a walk down the hill (15-20 mins) so we went to Milan for the day and did several excursions on the lake. Don't miss the authentic Italian restaurant farther up the hill... can't remember the name right now, but it's a true gem... family-style Italian dinner in a not-at-all touristy location high above the lake. The apartment is very clean... simple, but has everything for cooking at home. WiFi worked great and the breezes at night we're refreshing even in late July. The little bar/cafe downstairs is frequented by the locals (and their kids), so it's a real part of the community... if you're fluent in the local dialect, it might drive you crazy to hear all the conversations, but to us, it sounded like life in Italy... full of passion, hand gestures and tradition. It closes down around sunset, so it's not a late night place... just a gathering spot for the locals.
It's high above the lake, but we liked being away from the tourist. There are shuttle buses available, but we elected to either walk to town and/or drive our rental car. Be advised, the roads are safe, but very NARROW... there is free parking near the apartment, but we generally walked to town and took a taxi home (Rita was our fav taxi driver... her number is at the taxi stand at the train station).
This place is for those who want a great value and a more authentic Italian experience. I hope.we get the chance to return someday.
Authentic Italian Village Apartment
The village of Perledo sits just above the well known town of Varenna on Lake Como. My wife and I along with our adult son, just finished our week long stay in the apartment and had a delightful time. It was a great value for the money and the host Andrea was very kind, knowledgeable and accommodating and grew up in Perledo. The kitchen is small but has everything we needed to eat several of our meals in the apartment. There is a well stocked market within a short walk and we picked up fresh bread, eggs and other food items. The beds were comfortable and the apartment was very clean. The washing machine was convenient and we dried our clothes in the sun on the balcony. We had a rental car which worked out well as we did several day trips from this location. The ferry from Varenna to Bellagio and Mennagio run very frequently and are a great value at only $5 per person for each leg of the trip. We used the reliable internet to stay in touch with friends and family. We enjoyed walking around the pedestrian only part of the Perledo village and got a healthy workout as it is a hillside village. The views from the wrap around balcony are absolutely amazing! We loved our stay and hope to return to Lake Como in the future.

little italy im original
Danke Andrea :-)
Thanks for the good review and the detailed description of yr. holiday. I'm happy you enjoyed yr. stay.
It's been a pleasure meeting you and yr. smart and polite son.
A lovely holiday with a great view
The apartment was very suitable for me and my husband, Andrea was very helpful when we arrived. The apartment was very clean and tidy as described, with great views over looking the lake, sitting out on the balcony having dinner was wonderful.
We did lots of walking up and down the mountains, had a couple of boat trips which I would recomend going to Bellagio. We went on a train to Milano which was a great day out. I would recommend this spsrtment to my friends and family
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing stay at Casa la Fonte. The apartment was clean, well-maintained and exactly as described on the website, with lovely lake and mountain views from the balcony.
Andrea, the owner, was the perfect host. He is very friendly and immediately made us feel 'at home'. He speaks English very well and provided information about the area that made getting around, sight-seeing etc very easy.
Perledo is a lovely village and we found the local people warm and friendly. In our opinion, Varenna is the most attractive of the lake towns that we visited. The whole area is stunningly beautiful and one in which we would like to spend a lot of time.
Our visit to Casa la Fonte was very special. If you enjoy popping to the ancient village shop for some fresh bread or croisssants or to collect some local cheese for a picnic for an energetic walk from the apartment or perhaps a coffee or a prosecco in the local bar downstairs with the old gents. This is the place for you. It was far enough away from the bustle of the tourist trail but close enough to drive to or walk to via the wonderful old cart tracks. It's an energetic walk back uphill. (25minutes) via an old village and well stocked allotments. From 8 until 11 it has a buzz. Church bells, dogs howling in tune, scooter horns and the chatter of villagers. From 11 until 8 in the morning it's silent apart from the owls.
Perledo is perfect for exploring the area. The obvious favourites of Varenna, Menaggio, and Bellaggio are possible without even taking the car. A 20 minute walk to the ferry landing and you can leave the car in the village. If you want to visit smaller villages around the lake or go further afield the car ferry is a good choice and reasonable. We walked down to the train station one day and got the train into Milan. (1hour 10 minutes) A great day. Our favourite days included a trip to Villa Balbianello, a scenic drive over the top to see Lake Lugano and . we discovered some wonderful sleepy villages north of Varenna and Menaggio. Como is worth a visit too.
It's perfect for those who want to see the famous Como triangle but also want to explore some hidden gems. A car isn't a necessity but you would need to enjoy walking uphill. There are some buses.
Andrea and all in the village made us feel welcome. For a little bit of the real Italy Casa la Fonte is perfect.
Perledo is a little picturesque village which dominates the central part of lake Como. Placed in a hilly area behind Varenna (only 3 km far by car) it offers a panorama of rare beauty and vastness overlooking the entire lake and surrounding towns. It is a real oasis in the nature between lake and mountains ideal for outdoor activities or as a starting point for visiting a very wide range of places.Varenna can be reached in only 5 minutes by car, Menaggio and Bellagio in 10 minutes by ferry from Varenna, Lecco in 30 minutes and Mandello (well known home town of ‘Moto Guzzi’) in 20 minutes; you can also easily reach Milano, Bergamo or Como by train in an only hour or decide to visit Valsassina or Valtellina (Bormio, Madesimo, St.Moritz).
