Clean, quiet area and close to places we wanted to go. Communication with host was helpful with fast responses. We had a great stay at the Turtle Shack.

Upon arrival there were 6-8 chickens roaming the backyard. In the yard there were fire ants in many locations. There were ant bait pellets all over the yard and with having our dogs this was an issue as it wasn’t safe to walk them with all the pellets in the yard. Inside the house the kitchen window didn’t close and lock all the way. The coffee maker filter was black and looked as it had mold. One of the bedroom windows also didn’t lock. Bathroom hand towels were stained with what appeared to be blood.Maintenance worker did come and place a screwdriver in the back window to “lock it” and tightened the kitchen window. Stated that it has been a bad year for ants. I understand but with the house being pet friendly it should be communicated. As the ant bait pellets were not out correctly. As a person who is highly allergic to fire ants and bringing pets it should be stated as a heads up. Staying served it’s purpose but we will not be returning.

When I arrived at the red carpet place, it smelled strongly of, body odor and cat pee.When doing my booking, it said I only had one pet. I told the young man that if my elderly dog survived, that he would be joining me on the trip and I did not know how to change the number of pets. He said don’t worry about it And that we would just be going through text from now on.I received an email first thing in the morning after my first night there. Saying that I was being charged for a pet deposit. I went outside to take my dogs to the bathroom, and saw a video camera. I tried to turn it away from meas I had just woken up and was not fully dressed, and it fell off its holder. When I picked as I had just woken up and was not fully dressed, and it fell off its holder. When I picked it up to put it back the young man said hello ma’am please stop. He was spying on me. He could hear me talking. When I got angry about this, he told me I had to leave and that he was keeping all of my 800. I was not returned one single cent. On top of that they charged me more money after taking all of my money the day before. Red flag red flag red flag. These guys suck.

This guest's review contains multiple falsehoods, but for the sake of transparency, here's what actually happened: she removed a clearly visible, legally installed exterior security camera—something every guest agrees to in our house rules—then became hostile and aggressive toward our staff, requiring intervention from local law enforcement. We have documentation including video, recorded phone calls, and written communications that speak for themselves. While we respect all guests' rights to leave honest feedback, we also believe in protecting the safety and dignity of our team. Unfortunately, platform review systems don’t always catch when a review comes from a place of retaliation rather than reality. We understand readers will form their own opinions, but we invite future guests to read the full range of reviews and reach out with any concerns before booking. And if you're ever curious what it looks like when a guest completely loses it over being asked to follow basic rules—well, let’s just say we’re considering a cautionary video titled: “Psycho Vrbo Guest Loses Her Mind (and Vrbo Does Nothing About It).” Stay tuned.
