About ray schilke
I design sound for the theatre. I also own and operate a sound company called Ins & Outs and we do a lot of theatre and musical events in NYC. Locally our work is more charitable within the non-profit sector. I've lived in New Paltz for 20 years and I drive a lot.
ray schilke purchased this Farmhouse in 2000
Why ray schilke chose New Paltz
The farmhouse was built in 1911 and has a lot of character. We recently renovated it and included some really nice details . The back deck overlooks the pond and there are seasonal views of the Shawangunk Mountains. There are trails that wind through the woods and there is a wonderful bird, reptile and wildlife population.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
If you've never had an egg that was laid just hours before you cooked it, you're in for a real treat. The girls here are free-range and enjoy a pretty nice diet of natural grains and fruits and vegetables. They're quite healthy and friendly and fun to watch ! And if you have a garden at home, we would be glad to give you a bag of their poop for fertilizer, perfect for growing herbs !

Fun girls weekend!
We had a great time at the house for our annual girls weekend. The house had all the amenities that we needed to have a pleasant stay. We enjoyed the farm fresh eggs in the morning. Only had small middle of the night mishap with the smoke detector.
Charming house on a beautiful property
Perfect location minutes from New Paltz.
The farmhouse is indeed cozy and charming.
The added little touches by our host were welcoming. The farmhouse is comfortable and convenient to the little town of New Paltz. It was too late to reserve in Hyde Park which was the reason for being here, a hotel could not possibly have provided the same experience of just hanging out. The kitchen had everything we needed and our host was available and attentive if needed. Our hiking day was incredible, Mohonk Park Preserve, a treasure, offers a hike called The Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze which, if you're hearty enough, is amazing! I'll say no more, the summit at the top took my breath away. After we got back that beautiful day, there were two chairs facing the farmhouse's pond that called us to relax, situated facing a perfect sunset, it could not have been a more stunning ending to a perfect day! This is the place!!! Search no more!
Thank you :)
Came here with a few friends over the weekend. Great back porch to hang out on and grill. Had a fantastic time staying here, and Ray was attentive and helpful. Thanks!
Thanks Sean !
A wonderful stay
We spent a lovely weekend at Ray's farmhouse. The location is perfect. Very close to New Paltz on one side and to a farm stand on the other. The house is pretty close to the road, so it was easy to find and didn't feel like the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, the road wasn't noisy, and in the back of the house there was a beautiful, serene pond and the woods. There are two decks at the front and the back of the house and adirondack chairs scattered throughout the property.
The inside of house was spacious and very clean. It is newly renovated, and we loved that it had quality fixtures, fridge, etc. There were really thoughtful touches throughout - coffee and other essentials in the kitchen, milk in the fridge. We also loved all the natural hand and dish soaps. We were traveling with young kids, and Ray left us some juice pouches and children's books. And of course we loved the fresh eggs from Ray's free-range chickens!! Our kids loved running around the property and hanging out with the chickens.
Ray was incredibly welcoming and helpful with suggestions for things to do in the area. He checked in with us to make sure that we were comfortable, and even offered to bring an extra air conditioner, because the weather was warm. It wasn't necessary, but we really appreciated the extra care to make sure that we were enjoying our stay. We will certainly rent this property again if we are in the area.
Thanks Marina !
Could use a cleaning and pest control
The house is located in a quiet country setting overlooking a large pond.
The house itself could use a good cleaning (dusty floors, cob webs, etc.), and the only smoke detector we could find had been placed on top of the refrigerator, where it would not be very effective. We did not see any CO2 detectors.
There were also the mice: When we were checking in the owner casually mentioned that there was “a mouse” in the house, although he didn’t say what he was doing to eliminate it. The first morning we found that two bags of snacks we had left out had been chewed open and there were small pieces of packaging and mouse droppings all over the counter.
We decided to store everything in the refrigerator and the microwave, but still saw evidence of mouse activity in the kitchen each morning. When we were sitting in the living room watching TV at night we also heard mice gnawing away at something in the corner of the basement beneath us.
Thank you for your kind words .
