Cottage/Tiny House Living Accommodation in Beaufort for Cost-conscious Traveler

Bedrooms Studio
Space 220 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

The Pigeon Nest Cottage is ideal for the cost-conscious traveler or couple who appreciates a cozy, homey venue for a getaway, and only a 10 minute walk to restaurants and shops. The little 250' addition fits perfectly in the new craze for "tiny house" living. It is connected to owners home by a 20x18 ft screened veranda. Situated in the Pigeon Point area of Beaufort close to the historic downtown, Chateau Petite Cottage aka Pigeon Nest Cottage is a small place with a lot of heart. The cottage is nestled among ancient Live Oak trees draped with Spanish moss, across the road from the Beaufort River. It offers our guests: a kitchenette (microwave oven, sink, refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster, 2 burner portable stove, and dishes, pots n' pans); coffee and breakfast bars for your first morning here, a new bathroom with a shower and bath towels (including beach towels, beach chairs, and boogie boards. Bedroom/day room with a very comfortable daybed, that can either be used as 2 twins or a king size ; an HD flat-screen TV with cable channels; WIFI access; a bistro table with 2 chairs; in addition, you'll have access to a front-loading washer and dryer. Outside, the cottage offers a large yard surrounded by a white picket fence (so your small pet can roam), as well as a private screened deck for guests and a separate seating area with a table and chairs for relaxing and enjoying the flowers . In the spring of 2016, a whimsical flower garden is in a continual process of "being complete."

In February Diane's younger sister Bonnie passed away, and it spurred the idea of a memory garden for her.... a meandering path, graced with ferns, daisies, hydrangeas, misc pretty flowers, as well as a precious pink flowered bush called "little Bonnie" have all been planted with love. You will also find teapots, bunnies and assorted little treasures to make you smile. Please spend time enjoying........ my flowers want to see you...

You are welcome to relax on my veranda, especially in inclement weather, tho fair warning - being an intrepid decorator, there is usually a "construction zone" of works in progress . You also will get to have the delightful experience of my 2 feline roomies Miss Maggie Grace, and Good Golly Miss Molly, the long haired calico. They love to be petted.

About Diane McIntosh

I moved to Beaufort from the Pennsylvania Amish country to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the coast and the sunshine. Living in Beaufort has renewed my spirit and introduced me to many new friends, while allowing me to share the beauty of my new adopted home town with my friends from Pennsylvania. I have always enjoyed entertaining and decorating, so my cozy cottage in Beaufort allows me to indulge my favorite pastimes.

Diane McIntosh purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Diane McIntosh chose Beaufort

My husband and I vacationed in Beaufort a few years ago and fell in love with the historic charm of the town, its friendly, welcoming people, the wonderful waterfront restaurants and the natural beauty of Beaufort by the sea. This is a magical place to begin a new life!

Unfortunately, My husband passed away in January 2011, so I made the "big move" alone. I know he would be proud of what I have been able to accomplish.

What makes this cottage unique

I love to sit on my cottage's porches and enjoy the river breezes, the shade of the huge old Live Oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and the peace and tranquility of my river neighborhood. The Pigeon Point dock and deck are less than a ten minute walk, you can catch a sunrise if you are an early bird, and if not, just turn around for a beautiful sunset to the west. No matter when you are there, be sure to keep an eye out for the playful dolphins.

Wonderful tiny house in a magical garden!

  • 5 of 5

Diane's cottage was the perfect spot for my dog and I to get away for a few days and forget about the hustle of life. The garden was beautiful and watching the birds, squirrels, and even a few lizards was fun! With a very short walk to pigeon point we got to watch the sunsets every night over the sound. With a little longer walk to downtown, shops(including the chocolate shop) and restaurants are within 30 minutes of the house. One better, take a bike and go visit port royal or cat island! The space was cozy but great for cooking myself breakfast each morning. The shower was very tall(great for tall guests) and the water stayed hot for a long time! The bed was very comfortable and the chance to watch a little tv at night was nice as I don't pay for cable at home anymore. Who does?!? This was an amazing place to stay and I look forward to coming again in the future!

Adorable place in a great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our stay with our little dog. The garden was lovely with so many little treasures for the eye. The cottage was cute and functional. I especially enjoyed the screened gazebo to sit outside and enjoy nature. Do bring some bug spray though. Diane was a very nice host. I'd definitely stay again.

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed tiny living for our short stay with our dog Kevin at Diane's cute cottage! Everything and more was in the cottage to make us all comfortable including treats for us and Kevin too! Highlights were the short walk to the water where we saw dolphins and the short drive to the marina where we enjoyed very nice outdoor dining at Common Grounds and Plums! Also sitting out on the deck and eating breakfast with a breeze was very nice! Thanks so much to you Diane for being a great host!

Perfect spot for a weekend away

  • 5 of 5

We adored staying at Ms. Diane's quaint cottage for the weekend while we worked on our vacation home renovation. She was a perfect host and attended to any need we had. The cottage is definitely small but is great for two people. It's perfectly decorated and had all the necessities. I easily prepared breakfast for us that we enjoyed on the Veranda with our morning coffee. We loved it and will definitely recommend to anyone! Thank you again!!

Established in 1711, historic downtown Beaufort boasts a scenic waterfront park with an array of alfresco dining options--locally caught fresh seafood, steaks, Lowcountry barbeque, burgers and gourmet flatbread pizza. Relax on the riverfront green space with its swinging benches for a great view of the river and the marina. Sit a spell and watch the bridge swing open for the tall masts of sail boats gliding past on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, see porpoises play on the tides of the river, and witness breathtaking coastal sunsets over the water.

To learn about Beaufort's 300-year heritage, take a boat tour along the river, travel through the city's historic streets in a quaint horse-drawn carriage or walk the streets with a guide dressed in period garb. Linger in the quaint downtown shops loaded with antiques, clothing, gifts, furnishings and more. Peruse the many art galleries featuring the works of local Lowcountry artisans.

Beaufort is the ideal base for all of your Lowcountry and Coastal Empire excursions. The Sea Islands and Atlantic Ocean are just a few miles from downtown, so be sure to visit Hunting Island with its historic lighthouse and sunny ocean beaches. And Beaufort is ideally located for day-trips to Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head Island--only an hour or so from each destination.

In Beaufort, you can sit and enjoy the sun and water while you sip your favorite beverage, or you can fill your days with boating, kayaking, beachcombing, fishing, sightseeing and history--it's your choice. Welcome to Beaufort, South Carolina's coastal paradise!
