Farmhouse, 6 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths (Sleeps 13)
Utterly private (on 175 acres), our home boasts an iconic view of the majestic Dorset Mountain from the front rooms, while in the back are our own pastures and forest, extending nearly all the way up to Staples Farm.
The house has SIX BEDROOMS (four with QUEEN BEDS, one with double bunk beds, and one furnished as an upstairs den/writing room), 4.5 bathrooms, an enormous living room (with a magnificent marble fireplace), a den, a breakfast room, a formal dining room (with many leaves for the table), and a rear living room, which is used as the office and is also the home of the Legos and the games table (foosball, Ping-Pong, table hockey).
The house is ideal for a large family getaway – for that matter, for two or even three families – looking for a fabulously comfortable, big, luxurious residence to return to after a day spent

-SHOPPING at the Manchester Outlets (20 minutes),
-Swimming/boating at EMERALD LAKE (8 minutes),
-HORSEBACK RIDING (several stables within 5 minutes, for trail rides or indoor riding),
-Seasonal APPLE PICKING on our own trees, in the pastures (these are ancient trees that have never seen chemicals, and the apples are amazing)
-Meandering, antiquing, admiring the foliage, heading to farmers markets, and
…And who enjoy cooking, lounging and relaxing in a house big enough to accommodate everyone...and built well enough to *not* hear everyone. It is a gourmet’s delight. It is a child’s delight, with incomparable spots for hide-and-seek and many games, toys and puzzles (grown-up games and puzzles, too). It is a refuge of quiet and serenity, surrounded by green…it evokes an earlier age, and never have we had a guest not specifically remark on how being here has made them feel relaxed, even after only one night.
Stargazers will have a particular treat, because with our acreage comes great seclusion, and on clear nights, the viewing is unrivaled.
While the house has all the integrity and charm (and some of the idiosyncrasies) of a house built at the turn of the last century, in the past two years we have made a substantial investment to the physical plant. Let’s just say it’s been a labor of love, and all systems, hardware, and plumbing are current if not absolutely new.
We hope you will stay in our home and create memories to last a lifetime. We cherish this house – it is a treasure – and we hope you will feel the same.

About: I grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and have lived in New York virtually my whole life, except for four years in New Haven and two and a half years in the Bay Area, where I met my husband. We moved back to New York and have a daughter, who is in grade school. We are passionate about cooking and food (and have been known to frequent sundry farmers markets), and we love to ski, read, relax, explore and travel.
Why Danby, VT, USA:
My parents purchased our home in 1968 -- when I was less than a year old -- and my memories here have been etched over a lifetime. Christmases with huge trees, a million presents, blinking lights, sparklers on the porch; stargazing with my father against a pitch black sky; snowmobile rides into the back woods with my father, when I was small and he was strong enough to have been Paul Bunyan. Thanksgivings here almost every year, while my mother was still alive. Originally purchased as our ski house, my mother made this her primary residence in the mid-80s. She passed away two years ago, and we have begun our own traditions. We live in Manhattan, and owning this house has been a crazy labor of love. We have cleaned, fixed, upgraded, invested, weeded, insulated, and so forth. It's refreshed, it's loved, and it's glorious. There is something about it here. We feel it, and our friends feel it. There is something amazing about the expanse of space and nature; it is a definite departure from the 'real world.' It is almost mystical, and it is incredibly serene.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
In the warmer weather, we sit on the front porch with our coffee, and gaze at Dorset Mountain -- it is as though it belongs only to us. It is magnificent, regardless of the weather -- dramatic in all light. We look out the picture window in the kitchen when we're cooking, up the back hill to Staples Farm -- and it's our meadows and trees. We pick apples in the fall and sled down the hill in the winter. We also hang out and watch Disney movies, cook, eat, cook some more and eat some more. With six bedrooms and all the additional public rooms, there is a spot for everyone to read, relax, or play. The house at once huge and rambling but cozy, and traditional but current.
