Fantastic Time of Fun and Relaxation for the Entire Family - We Could not have Asked for a Better Pl
If you are planning a vacation on the Chesapeake Bay, it's hard to imagine how you could do better than spending some time at Doug's property. There may be properties closer to the hustle and bustle of St. Michaels, but I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that none of them will have an innkeeper who will come out at 9:15 on a dark, stormy night because his confused and jet-lagged guests can't find their abode in spite of directions, and who will gladly go and buy a high chair for the smallest of those guests, who will simply not eat, unless she can feed herself. Nor will those other places have a geriatric Llama named Lordy (short for Lord of the Rings), who will come to greet you in the morning and graciously allow the delighted resident toddlers to feed him grain pellets.
But these were only a few of the attractions at Doug's place, which is even better than the pictures. You are greeted at the gate by a small statue of the Buddha, which tells you all you need to know about the peaceful experience in store for you. The property is gorgeous with many farm lanes to walk on. There's a sandy, shallow beach for those toddlers and children to enjoy as well as a lovely dock. A shed holds life vests to use with the various kayaks and canoes. There are beach chairs and tubes, an umbrella and generally everything you need to enjoy the beach, sun, and water.
The house is even nicer than the pictures - the well-stocked kitchen has been renovated since they were taken, and now there is even a dishwasher.
Doug and Maryann are the most welcoming, wonderful hosts, and if we are ever lucky enough to plan another vacation in their area, we will be sure to find our way back to their beautiful farm.
secluded, cozy, perfect!
We stayed here for 3 nights during Spring Break. It was a wonderful stay- very relaxing. Everything at the house worked perfectly and we were able to host relatives for some events. There was plenty of room to stretch out. We were never 'on top of' each other. the beds were out of this world comfortable. The best part though, was (in addition to getting to feed the llamas) we were loaned a very calm, very sweet labrador for my dog crazy special needs daughter during our stay.. I can't wait to come back.
Beautiful, Serene, and Fun!
We enjoyed two delightful weeks in the River House on Spring Cove Farm. The four-bedroom house is very comfortable for eight people. The decor is homey and grandchildren-friendly. The view of the water from the deck is calming and inspiring. The picnic table on the deck is just right for a crab feast!
Family and friends who live in and near Centreville came to visit, and we all had a great time kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, and fishing. The cove is quiet and private. Occasionally, we saw a boat or two venture our way, but mostly is felt like our own little piece of Eastern Shore paradise.
Our hosts, Doug and Marian, were so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. (The washing machine gave out, but a new one was installed the very next morning!) They were happy to let our grandchildren roam around the lovely farm and visit the llamas. Doug brought "Sugar Bear" to visit us, and the kids led this sweet llama around by a leash. Another time, Doug brought us wood for the fire pit so that the kids could make s'mores.
There is plenty to do at the River House, but sometimes we left the farm and enjoyed good restaurants in nearby Kent Narrows. And, we had great old-fashioned fun at the Queen Anne's County Fair!
The property was exactly as advertised. Innkeepers very friendly and accommodating. Gave history of property, suggestions for safety, and made sure we had everything we needed.
We got up close and personal with their llamas and emus.
Definitely will plan a return visit.
A perfect getaway for familes from the hustle and bustle of DC
Doug's place on the water was the perfect getaway from Washington, DC - it was just an hour away, but we felt like we were in another world. Even in January, it was a beautiful, secluded place to stay. We had four adults and four kids, and there was plenty of space for all of us. The house is great - well stocked with linens, four spacious bedrooms and a nice living room, plenty of pantry and kitchen items, and had even had some books and toys for the kids. The view from the porch is beautiful, and the kids loved walking out to the dock. The farm grounds are absolutely beautiful and fun to roam around, and Doug and his wife were kind enough to let the kids visit with the llamas and emu. Doug was a welcoming and accommodating host. I am looking forward to coming back in the warm weather! I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful getaway. Adults and kids all had a great time.
