secluded, cozy, perfect!
We stayed here for 3 nights during Spring Break. It was a wonderful stay- very relaxing. Everything at the house worked perfectly and we were able to host relatives for some events. There was plenty of room to stretch out. We were never 'on top of' each other. the beds were out of this world comfortable. The best part though, was (in addition to getting to feed the llamas) we were loaned a very calm, very sweet labrador for my dog crazy special needs daughter during our stay.. I can't wait to come back.
The property was exactly as advertised. Innkeepers very friendly and accommodating. Gave history of property, suggestions for safety, and made sure we had everything we needed.
We got up close and personal with their llamas and emus.
Definitely will plan a return visit.
Beautiful, Serene, and Fun!
We enjoyed two delightful weeks in the River House on Spring Cove Farm. The four-bedroom house is very comfortable for eight people. The decor is homey and grandchildren-friendly. The view of the water from the deck is calming and inspiring. The picnic table on the deck is just right for a crab feast!
Family and friends who live in and near Centreville came to visit, and we all had a great time kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, and fishing. The cove is quiet and private. Occasionally, we saw a boat or two venture our way, but mostly is felt like our own little piece of Eastern Shore paradise.
Our hosts, Doug and Marian, were so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. (The washing machine gave out, but a new one was installed the very next morning!) They were happy to let our grandchildren roam around the lovely farm and visit the llamas. Doug brought "Sugar Bear" to visit us, and the kids led this sweet llama around by a leash. Another time, Doug brought us wood for the fire pit so that the kids could make s'mores.
There is plenty to do at the River House, but sometimes we left the farm and enjoyed good restaurants in nearby Kent Narrows. And, we had great old-fashioned fun at the Queen Anne's County Fair!
A perfect getaway for familes from the hustle and bustle of DC
Doug's place on the water was the perfect getaway from Washington, DC - it was just an hour away, but we felt like we were in another world. Even in January, it was a beautiful, secluded place to stay. We had four adults and four kids, and there was plenty of space for all of us. The house is great - well stocked with linens, four spacious bedrooms and a nice living room, plenty of pantry and kitchen items, and had even had some books and toys for the kids. The view from the porch is beautiful, and the kids loved walking out to the dock. The farm grounds are absolutely beautiful and fun to roam around, and Doug and his wife were kind enough to let the kids visit with the llamas and emu. Doug was a welcoming and accommodating host. I am looking forward to coming back in the warm weather! I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet and beautiful getaway. Adults and kids all had a great time.
What a wonderful weekend it was! An overflow of our family stayed at the cottage who were in town for the wedding and a great time was had by all. After the formal wedding and reception, we all went back to the cottage to relax and unwind. The cottage is a beautiful home, fully equipped, comfortable beds and cozy atmosphere. We continued the celebration all weekend long while fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and of course meeting the llama was a highlight for both kids and adults. There was something for everyone. Wonderful family memories were made that weekend that we will cherish forever. Already checking our calendars to see when we can come back!
Perfect family vacation
Our group consisted of 4 adults and 5 children, ages 2 to 7. We all fit comfortably in this lovely cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped with every utensil. Although the cottage is in a remote setting surrounded by beautiful farmlands, you are actually only 10-15 mins away from Centerville where you can pick up anything you need. The cottage belongs to the owners of the farm who live up the road and they were very accommodating, even welcoming us with a gallon of water incase we did not like the taste of tap water (which has a minerally taste). He warned us about ticks in the high grass but we never had any problems. We did see 2 small snakes and jellyfish but that is expected for this area. None of the kids were harmed by the snakes but one child was stung by a jellyfish so get out of the water before 6pm and keep vinegar handy. There was vinegar at the house so that's how fully equipped it was. There were also various water vessels for us to use (canoe, kayak, boogie board, SUP paddle board) and enough life jackets for everyone, even the toddler. The beach area is very shallow making it perfect for kids to splash quite a far distance from the shore. It's a naturally formed beach with trees for shade. You felt like you were on a deserted island. An additional bonus was how welcoming the owners are. Doug brought a llama for the kids to see and welcomed us to his farm when we went for a little walk. Each person had an absolutely amazing time and everyone wanted to stay longer.
