Perfect spot to regain your perspective
Just a unique place for a relaxing, restorative, enjoyable weekend. Spent time on the dock taking in the views at sunset and watching the ospreys and eagles. Also took advantage of the well-kept surrounding farmlands for leisurely walks and llama watching.
The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped but close enough to Centreville to visit the local restaurants, if so inclined. If you are wanting for anything, the owners are very gracious and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. Couldn't recommend more highly.
The place was fantastic, and almost magical. We came for a writers retreat and stayed for the water llamas, talked with the bald eagles, and watching emus be emus. Doug was gracious and solicitous as a host, and made sure we had plenty of firewood, candles and advice on the local terroir. We swam in the briny bay as well. We hope to come back soon.
Couldn't have asked for a more perfect place! It was beautiful, comfortable and clean. The highlight was getting to meet Dimitri, the llama! He showed up Saturday morning and the kids loved him. Owner was great as well!
Really helpful and friendly owner!
Good guy, went above and beyond.
Fantastic Time of Fun and Relaxation for the Entire Family - We Could not have Asked for a Better Pl
If you are planning a vacation on the Chesapeake Bay, it's hard to imagine how you could do better than spending some time at Doug's property. There may be properties closer to the hustle and bustle of St. Michaels, but I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that none of them will have an innkeeper who will come out at 9:15 on a dark, stormy night because his confused and jet-lagged guests can't find their abode in spite of directions, and who will gladly go and buy a high chair for the smallest of those guests, who will simply not eat, unless she can feed herself. Nor will those other places have a geriatric Llama named Lordy (short for Lord of the Rings), who will come to greet you in the morning and graciously allow the delighted resident toddlers to feed him grain pellets.
But these were only a few of the attractions at Doug's place, which is even better than the pictures. You are greeted at the gate by a small statue of the Buddha, which tells you all you need to know about the peaceful experience in store for you. The property is gorgeous with many farm lanes to walk on. There's a sandy, shallow beach for those toddlers and children to enjoy as well as a lovely dock. A shed holds life vests to use with the various kayaks and canoes. There are beach chairs and tubes, an umbrella and generally everything you need to enjoy the beach, sun, and water.
The house is even nicer than the pictures - the well-stocked kitchen has been renovated since they were taken, and now there is even a dishwasher.
Doug and Maryann are the most welcoming, wonderful hosts, and if we are ever lucky enough to plan another vacation in their area, we will be sure to find our way back to their beautiful farm.
secluded, cozy, perfect!
We stayed here for 3 nights during Spring Break. It was a wonderful stay- very relaxing. Everything at the house worked perfectly and we were able to host relatives for some events. There was plenty of room to stretch out. We were never 'on top of' each other. the beds were out of this world comfortable. The best part though, was (in addition to getting to feed the llamas) we were loaned a very calm, very sweet labrador for my dog crazy special needs daughter during our stay.. I can't wait to come back.
