Overview

About the property

Unique, private luxury home on secluded river lot

Enjoy a wonderful luxury home experience on one of northern Michigan's most famous rivers. The two-and-a-half bathroom home has three bedrooms and two loft rooms that are versatile and can accommodate a number of guests. The outdoor deck (riverside), the many windows, and the long kitchen bar are among the many unique features. However, the Rumford fireplace with Black River Michigan stone on the exterior is the centerpiece attraction. The house also features a three-zone geothermal heating and cooling system. The upper lofts are reached by ascending an iron-rod spiral staircase.

The ground-floor bedrooms feature foam beds. The master bathroom includes a stone-tiled Jacuzzi tub and shower highlighted with inlaid Petoskey stone. WiFi access and Dish Network satellite television are also available. In addition, you can access your personal Netflix account via Apple TV if desired.

Outdoor activities include easy trail access to the nearby Rayburn property (state-owned) and/or Hanson Hills on the edge of town for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, downhill and cross country skiing, or disc golf, depending on the season. In addition, there are miles of two-tracks, as well as hiking and skiing trails in nearby national forests. Kayak and canoe rental is just five minutes away in downtown Grayling. The local bike shop also has rentals for the town's many bike paths. And of course, the AuSable River provides some of the best fly-fishing in the country!

River access is just steps away from the house, where the water is clear and shallow, and the river bottom sandy for leisurely walks in the great AuSable.

Come and enjoy the river amid privacy and cedar trees all around.

About Nathan Foster RHL2016-00112

Nathan and Randi Foster purchased the property in 2006, returning it to the Foster Family after three decades of various ownership.

In 1975, Nathan’s grandfather Dud Foster purchased a large swath of land at the headwaters of the AuSable, near Grayling, named by early trappers as Breakfast Point. Dud eventually subdivided his holding it into several parcels. He saw something in the river and surrounding cedar swamp that intrigued him. He turned the swamp into little hobbits of habitability one truck load of sand and a handful of Petosky stones at time.

Nathan’s other grandfather Art Lindauer, who lived his life as an architect and farmer, designed the home. Inspired by famous architects before him, Art’s vision and unique ideas have come to life inside and out. Some notable features include stained concrete floors, spiral staircase, natural light, large windows, diamond windows in the lofts, the Rumford fireplace, tight white stucco with a splash of color. The drawings of the River House at Breakfast Point hang in the walkway overlooking the great room in tribute to his efforts.

We are proud to offer a unique, modern, luxury home on the banks of the Au Sable River at a place called Breakfast Point.

The River House...beautifully set on the AuSable.

  • 5 of 5

The River House location on the AuSable with easy access to kayak and canoeing fun, is a gem in northern Michigan. It is private, quiet and relaxing. The design of the house is stunning and comfortable at the same time. The caretakers next door are gracious and attentive. The weather was beautiful, giving us a cool respite from the summer heat and humidity of Virginia.

We would highly recommend!

very nice stay

  • 5 of 5

This is nice clean home located on a great spot on the AuSable. We were 2 couples so plenty of room for us. We floated on the river, had a campfire, grilled steaks, went in town for some drinks and dinner, and just relaxed. We are from the general area so we know the area well but it was a nice local getaway for us. The river location is really ideal. I like the twist of modern conveniences in the quiet wooded setting. Very happy with our stay!

Title Says It All

  • 5 of 5

Definitely luxury...the house was exceptionally clean and well equipped. Enjoyed all of our stay at the house. Probably one of the nicest homes we have stayed at in our vacation rental career. Our family of 4 adults enjoyed the location and the river view and watching people travel the river. Very appreciative that we could bring our dog. Grayling was near by and offered some nice restaurants and we also BBQ'd.

A Modern Getaway in Natural Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location of this home, the modern esthetic of it, and the convenience of being near our event. The owners were easy to work with and very accommodating with our short notice reservation. Would definitely stay again, hopefully for a longer visit.

Great owners and property managers.

This home and location is absolutely a winter wonderland!!! We did have a slight problem while we were there. The owners and property managers did everything in their power to get it fixed! Can't say enough good things about our experience.

A perfect, quiet retreat on the river

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I chose the AuSable cabin as a weekend getaway for our fifth anniversary. The house is beautiful top to bottom, well thought out and perfectly appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed and we were surprised by the quality of the equipment. We loved the river view and the yard, and our dogs were happy to run around, but were also completely safe (even though one almost fell in the river). The living room was comfortable, the internet worked well, and even though we had a rainy weekend, the house was comfortable in every way. We're already talking about coming back, preferably for a longer stay with a larger group.
