Mtn. Chalet With A Tranquil Setting - Close To Everything!

Overview

About the property

Chalet, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible Bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

I fell in love with the Smoky Mountains since the first time I set eyes on them. Vered and I came down to Gatlinburg for some R&R and next thing you know we bought a chalet to eventually retire in. We fixed it to our liking and now family, friends and YOU are able to enjoy relaxing and a great adventure…hence the name “Secondhand Lions” (a movie we have features in our video library)! Conveniently located just a few short minutes to downtown Gatlinburg, top of Ski Mountain (Ober Gatlinburg), quiet walkways and, of course, the Great Smoky Mountain park entrance where the adventure really begins.

“Secondhand Lions” …Tranquil setting with all the comforts of home! The great room is decorated in Native American art that I collected over the years. We displayed it for all to enjoy. The bedrooms are equipped with a pair of Jacuzzi Hydro Message Tubs for that deep relaxation.

Surrounded by trees and wildlife make this a very relaxing and comfortable stay. Please take a photo of your stay and send me. I’ll display the best photo of the month and choose the best photo of the year to give a free night too.

Special weekly rates and off-season rates…call or email to find out. Enjoy in season Owners Club facilities (choice of 3 on the mountain). If you are a ski fanatic let us know and we’ll put a package together for you during the ski season.

Thank you for choosing our “great mountain getaway”!

About Dave Lyons

Vered and I are two souls that love the outdoors. We climb mountains and hike all over the nation and internationally. We have climbed Mt. Rainier, Mt. Washington and Mesada in Israel. We're always looking for an adventure!

Dave Lyons purchased this chalet in 2012

Why Dave Lyons chose Gatlinburg

We were in Gatlinburg just passively looking at properties. We came across the one here at 991 Stans Road and fell in love with the potential. We refurbished it but still have big plans...for instance a waterfall with hot tub on the edge near the big windows. We want this to be our oasis because we love the area...it's like living a vacation!

What makes this chalet unique

'Secondhand Lions' is uniquely positioned. It is close to just about everything...not far up the mountain....just right! It's cozy but very spacious...very relaxing while viewing nature out of all those windows.

Great private chalet just 5 minutes from Downtown!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend staying in this chalet. It is exactly what we needed to get away and relax! The chalet is very private, as there is only one chalet neighboring it; however, a fence provides total privacy. It is literally only 5 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg! The driveway, which a previous review said was terrible to get up, was not nearly as bad as we were thinking based on this review. We had NO TROUBLE getting up the driveway. Compared to most driveways in Gatlinburg, this one was a piece of cake - it's short with a minor incline. There are two different ways to get to the chalet, and if you follow the OWNER'S DIRECTIONS, the driveway is easy to get up. If you come from the other direction, it makes it a little difficult, as it is a very sharp angle to turn.

The chalet itself was great, as it was very spacious, and there were tons of amenities provided - washer/dryer, 2 jacuzzis, flat screen Vizio tv (with HDMI capability to hook up your laptop), DVD player, wireless internet, Wii video game console, fireplace, and any kitchen supplies you would need! Chalet would be perfect for a couple's getaway or with a group of friends! Owner was very easy to get a hold of, as we had to call him once to ask a question. He answered his phone immediately, and even called later in the trip to make sure that the chalet was clean and that we had everything we needed.

We will definitely be recommending this chalet to our family and friends, and we will definitely be staying here again in the future!!

This chalet is perfect! It has anything you need to have a relaxing vacation! Easy to find.

Great porch(s), nice firepit, two hot tubs! Very private and quiet. Close to anything else you may want to do while visiting the mountains. Both gas and charcole grills, full kitchen, etc....just an awesome retreat! Great that it is dog friendly....however, IF you have a dog that will not potty without a walk (luckily ours don't) you may not want to consider this property. There is really nowhere for them to "go" and walking on the roads would be a suicide attempt. Otherwise, this place is fantastic! Other people complained about the steep driveway, it is just fine if you are smart about it. We actually used it in our favor and walked up and down it several times every day for exercise! Good workout!

Very comfortable, great family get together.

We enjoyed our stay. Convenient to all attractions. We did most of our cooking in the chalet and had pizza from the shop just down the road. We also took advantage of the fire pit for relaxing and cooking hot dogs and smores. There were 6 adults, the youngest slept on the fold out bed, which was ok since the are both chiropractors and could adjust each other afterwards.

If we plan on Gatlinburg again, we will look at this property.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the comments. We are planning on changing out the mattress on the pull out to more of a user friendly experience. We also have an aero-bed in the upstairs closet which is a queen size. Glad you had great quality family time.

The cabin was on a main road. Loud during the day. It needs updates. Kitchen utensils were old and worn. Fold out couch bed was uncomfortable for my 15-year-old son. The skillet and cooking dishes were dirty. The kitchen faucet made an annoying whistling noise. The smoke detector went off on its own in the downstairs bedroom. The front porch furniture could have been updated.

Owner's Response: First of all thank you for your comments, we welcome everyone's thoughts. We are located just off Ski Mountain Road but it is not a major Highway and there is traffic going to the top (Ober Gatlinburg) motorcycles make a large noise during the afternoon hours. We also have a blow up Aero-bed as well as the hide a bed. Either can be used and one is harder than the other. I will inform our housekeeping service of the kitchen issues, thank you for letting me know. As far as updates, we take projects one by one to update because we plan on retiring there and we spend a lot of our time fixing broken things as guests leave. The front porch furniture is a metal table for outdoor use so I don't understand that issue. We, overall, have good responses from our guests and we figured as owners you can't please everyone but we try our best. Thanks for the comments.

Map

Property is located just off Ski Mountain Road. When you turn left onto Stans Road it's the first driveway on the right. Just a few short minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and to the top of the mountain at Ober Gatlinburg just up Ski Mountain Road.
