This custom 2661 square foot, three bedroom, three bath hale has everything you need for a peaceful, reenergizing, private tropical island vacation.

Upon entering the expansive great room, the cathedral ceilings create a vast sense of space. The lanai features ample covered dining space for six people and an outdoor seating area for cocktails and conversation. The gourmet indoor kitchen is a chef’s dream with granite counters, cherry cabinets and all the tools you need to make a simple meal or an epicurean delight.

The spacious master suite features a king size bed, walk-in closet and large pocket doors that open to the lanai --revealing the soothing ocean views. Slide between the soft cool sheets after an evening soak in the hot tub, located just outside the bedroom. Unlike hotels and condos, Hale Hina’s pool and hot tub don’t have a closing time! About Sallie Haws

Hale Hina is owned by two sisters, Sallie Haws and Amy Haws Peck who grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. Sallie worked for 26 years at the family company, Haws Corporation, a drinking fountain and emergency equipment manufacturer that was sold to the cousins in 2011. Sallie now manages the Haws Family Office. Sallie, her husband Jim Bowers, and her two children Marquise and Terry Van Tassel live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Amy and her husband Dennis Peck live in Escondido, CA. Amy owns and operates The Goddess Studio that helps empower women through dance and ceremony.

The Haws Family has loved the Big Island for many years. Our parents spent 2-4 weeks a year at the Kona Village Resort for over 30 years until it was closed due to the 2011 Tsunami. Amy and Dennis spent their honeymoon at Kona Village as well. Sallie and Jim traveled to Kona every other year with the kids for the last 10 years.

We picked Hale Hina for its single story, 3 bedroom layout, it's amazing view and the fact that it had air conditioning and a hot tub. We realized that we didn't need to be on the ocean, we just wanted to SEE the ocean. The house was owned and built by a couple who lived there as their primary residence and therefore put great energy and many special touches into their dream home.

Keauhou Shopping Center is a beautiful open air shopping center only a few minutes drive from Hale Hina. This center offers a great KTA market, Long drugs, post office, dining and a seven-plex movie theater. The island's most famous snorkeling beach-Kahaluu Beach Park is also close by.

Wow! Beautiful Home with Fabulous View and Amazing Sunsets

We had two couples stay in this spotlessly clean home for ten days.The decor was lovely containing many pieces of local art. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. We loved being able to open the sliding doors each morning to make the interior of the home open to the outside. We spent the majority of our time relaxing and sunbathing beside the pool, while taking an occasional refreshing dip to cool off. We cooked the majority of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. However, one evening we had Chef John (J&K Private Dinners (808)319-5750) cook a delicious meal for us.(They even took care of the dirty dishes.) The beds were comfortable and afforded a good nights sleep and the bathrooms were nice with great water pressure. The owners really made this a "home away from home" by providing every item we could have possibly needed to ensure an enjoyable stay. We wouldn't hesitate staying here again.

It's perfect.

We (2 couples + 1 adult) just returned from a two-week stay at Hale Hina - our second time staying there. It's perfect. The description and other reviews cover it - it's a great location in a secure neighborhood, beautiful home, lanai, pool and landscaping. Communicating with the owner (Sallie) and the caretakers (Ute and Steve) is quick and easy. We love this place. You won't be disappointed.

This was our 2nd time staying at Hale Hina. The property is located in a private gated community and yet close to everything (Safeway, Costco, ziplining, snorkeling, kayacking and the Beaches) By far the best sunsets we have ever seen. We ate every dinner at house because nothing else compared.

Good Friends and a property like this is a hit.

Outstanding Property

This property is Amazing. Beautiful views, incredible house, great sunsets, just everything you could want in a Hawaiian paradise. Quiet community that is minutes from just about everything in Kailua-Kona. My only complaint, the pool is not heated and that means it can be a little cold, but the hot tub is warm, so that made up for it. I would easily recommend this property to anyone!! Thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful home.

This is a beautiful home. The pictures, while very accurate, do not do it justice. And the views from the house are nothing short of spectacular! Never got bored of seeing all that peaceful blue ocean and sky, and we had beautiful sunsets every night. The wall of sliding doors between the main living space and the outdoor space is such a lovely feature and kept the breezes blowing gently through the house. We were very comfortable and enjoyed using all of the amenities, including the wonderful kitchen, outdoor grill, and of course the pool and hot tub. Interestingly we did not even turn the tv on while we were there! My only complaint: the pool was freezing cold. I did not know until after we received our rental confirmation that the pool is not heated (I did try to look for this information when I was comparing properties). Since having a pool was at the top of our list of importance, it was a big bummer. My daughter still got in and swam, but it was far too cold for the grown ups (ie, non-serious-swimmers) to get in past the knees. Brrrr! Just wish there was a solar cover or something to heat it up. I have to wonder whether they have constant fresh water being added given the pretty infinity/waterfall aspect of the pool. I don't think the sun even has a chance to warm the water - it certainly did not get warmer during our week and the day time temps were in the low 80s. It's a lovely pool and a great size, so the temperature was the only disappointment about it. I stuck to the hot tub. All in all, we loved the island, and the house.

Owner's Response: I've had a few questions regarding the pool temperature because of this review and the one following, so I thought I'd respond with this information. The pool is heated by the sun and ambient air temperature. This last winter was unusually and exceptionally cold in Kona. Some nights the temperature dropped down into the low 60's which eliminated any temperature gains from the day. This reviewer was our guest in January. When we stayed at Hale Hina the first 2 weeks of February the pool would heat to 80 degrees during the day. My 90 year old parents and I got in the pool every day. My husband thought it was still too cold. So water temperature tolerance varies from person to person. During unusually cold winters like this last one when the nightly temps dropped into the high 60's, the pool temp in the mornings may get to the mid to low 70's. However, the pool does heat up quickly during the day. We do not have a pool heater installed. Only solar would be economically feasible to operate as there is no natural gas on the island, unfortunately solar isn't very economically feasible to install. The hot tub is very large and will heat to 102, so there is always that option for getting wet at the most optimal temperature for you to experience Perfection in Paradise. Aloha!

It was a privilege to return to this beautiful property. We continue to appreciate the owner as well as local on-site management help given to us under unexpected circumstances. We appreciated new updates within the property and the standard with which the property is held to. The property is second to none and we can only hope to be able to some day return again for another holiday.

The lava is flowing into the ocean once again, and it is a once in a lifetime experience that shouldn't be missed. Plan a helicopter ride or a day excursion over to Hilo to catch a ride aboard the the Lava One from Lava Ocean Tours for an up close and personal view of the magnificence of Pele.
